Chapter 57 - To Seek a Far Memory with Truth

"Me? Yeah I am a Truth Seeker, but, doesn't that make it worse? Julian before you killed him told me the blood of people like me are known to be different from those of normal people."

Yurina looked at him, the more Satoya gazed back at her, the more pain he felt once again.

But he continued to speak.

"Listen. I do not possess a Verity, I am no different than a Nebulaian philosopher!" He had his hand on his chest, while clenching his sheathed katana, not out of hostility but of disappointment in himself for having to say this.

Yurina let out a disappointed and depressing sigh, tilting her head down at the floor.

"But that is good enough… Satoya."

Satoya paused, taking a quick breather.

"Roland has never brought a Truth Seeker here, even back in the 8th Disaster. The Truth Seeker's blood he used to create the Ichorblight was that of an Elite Rank who was killed by a Wrehtched Roland personally lured."

Satoya hesitated for a second, upon the realization that Roland not only brought him here for reasons he himself did not know or had forgotten, but also the fact he is the first Truth Seeker to even be brought here alive.

"I'm gonna say this, for one time Satoya."

Yurina seemingly zoned out, staring blankly at a counter where a shattered vial of cyan liquid, with that same liquid dripping endlessly into the eroded floor.

"It doesn't matter whether or not you do not possess a Verity, in any case, Truth Seekers are people who visited their Elusive Solace, which never directly meant they need to possess a Verity."

She snapped out of it, looking back at Satoya.

"In truth, during the time Suya was alive, I bought food from the outside world. Not shipping, but actively going to other places to buy food for her, although that same food was never in the best condition, whether it'd be already cold, or melted, or thawed, or somewhat spoiled. And the reason why I was able to purchase all of those things, was because I was allowed to leave, or well, Roland somehow managed to get me from this laboratory to another location simultaneously without any explanation even to this day."

"Then why didn't you escape?" Satoya asked immediately.

"Because I didn't want to leave without her. I'd rather stay and protect her as best as I can from that feeble pathetic scum of a 'human' life." She replied, looking up at the ceiling where the ceiling materials were stained in blood and also covered in mold.

"But, I woke up one day, without any memory of me sleeping.. Maybe I should've taken that advice I told her about sleep being good.." She let out a weak, almost heart aching chuckle.

"And, when I sprinted to Suya's containment chamber, where I always watch her sleep for her own safety, I saw him."

Satoya began to clutch his head, he felt someone was punching the inside of his head with brass knuckles, until the pain subsided, except as if time slowed down, he saw himself in another person's body, in an environment so familiar yet an older atmosphere.

.. 10019.. March 19

Roland was standing in front of the control panel, looking through a large window into a white containment chamber lit by a single rectangular fluorescent light. He appeared to be lost in thought, judging by how he was displaying a gesture of thought, or at least his form of it where he has both hands in his lab coat's pocket. Although he is indeed lost in thought, he slowly turned to the one observing Roland in the distance. The one who entered the control panel room, the rapid sounds of her panting tiredly.

He smiled rather amusingly, taking a short glance at the woman. He opened his mouth, leaning his head in her direction as if he was a close colleague to her, even if the person he is speaking to is someone who by all means would hope he himself dies in a regrettable pit of rot.

"Yurina."

"You'll miss it."

The woman panickingly ran to the large window Roland proceeded to continue observing. Except she only saw a little girl, the little girl who called her Big Sis.. That child being Suya, immediately noticed Yurina leaning so close to the window where she had to use her hands as support to see as close as possible.

Suya in her familiar grey patient gown, began to wave her hand up at Yurina, her smile being as bright as the warmest comforting sun in a brutal cold winter.

Until, at what was a 'blink' of an eye, bioorganic material splattered the large window from the containment chamber, leaving the people in the control panel to bear witness to something morbid. The same bioorganic material splattered on the wall began to trickle down, leaving a trail of sanguine liquid. There was also some biomass on the walls, although not as much due to the size of the chamber.

In the middle of the containment chamber, was a circle, or a sort of, post explosion radius of blood, flesh, nerves, without any signs of organs aside from small bits of brain matter that came be seen in the walls and window.

In the exact center of that radius of someone who the woman cared for deeply, was a now blood stained patient gown.

As Yurina observed the scene, she began to break down. Her hands slowly slipped down the window, until they grew limp beside her body. She then began to tear up so uncontrollably that the sounds of her cries echoed throughout the hallways. Her sorrow was so immense she even began to scratch the side of her head till she scratched through skin causing her to bleed.

Despite all of this, Roland was looking through the window, grinning. However that grin slowly faded before speaking to himself only.

"This wasn't enough, I daresay. That Sanguine Light does indulge in anything with a high amount of carnage.." He let out a sigh, as he turned around to leave.

He looked back at Yurina who was still in her rights, in that deep state of sorrow.

"Go wipe those tears off your face, Suya wouldn't want to see you sad, aren't I correct?"

.. Back to present, 10025.

Satoya blinked, finding himself in the same spot, and noticed that nothing changed. Was he 'zoning' or having a 'vision' on the spot? Maybe that vision he had just now was the same 'weird' dream he had earlier and even more earlier. The more he contemplated, the more he realized this is a clue to what his Verity could possibly be. But, he also realized that he kept ignoring the sensation that this wasn't from him but something else, but he felt himself becoming even more confused, since that same 'something else' was also familiar to him, or natural. The more he thought, the more his head ached even more due to him not understanding.

Then, he felt someone clutch onto his shoulders.

"I saw Roland walk into the room next to us! We need to head there now!"

Yurina sprinted out of the room, with only Satoya following up slowly. Her footsteps were loud and frantic, as she opened a door without question.

But something was off. That room exploded into a large black mist that enshrouded the entire hallway, leaving Satoya to be caught off guard and flailing his arms around to get the smoke to go away.

And as the smoke subsided, he couldn't see Yurina anywhere.
