"What's with these guys?"
Astana Arena was buzzing with excitement.
The cheers of nearly 30,000 fans echoed throughout the stadium, rising and falling like waves.
Most of them were supporting Astana, but what surprised Arsenal's players was the number of away supporters.
An entire section of the stadium was almost filled with Arsenal fans.
Even stranger, the Astana players kept glancing toward the Arsenal lineup during the pre-match formalities, their faces full of excitement and anticipation.
Kanté frowned.
"Why do they all look so excited?"
Wilshere chuckled.
"They're looking at their idols."
Kanté raised an eyebrow.
"You mean... us?"
Wilshere grinned.
"For clubs like Astana, any European giant is worth admiring. We're the defending Champions League winners. Of course, they're excited."
He spoke with obvious pride.
Wilshere wasn't sure whether Arsenal had ever viewed another club that way, but for a team like Astana, Arsenal represented the pinnacle of European football.
Opportunities like this rarely come around.
To face a club of Arsenal's stature, on equal terms in the Champions League group stage, was a dream for many of those players.
Wilshere had witnessed similar reactions during overseas exhibition tours, but seeing it happen on football's biggest club stage was another experience altogether.
Kai glanced toward the Astana players before speaking calmly.
"Don't underestimate them."
Everyone turned to look at him.
"Astana may be the weakest team in the group on paper, but football doesn't care about reputations. Every season, there are upsets, especially in tournaments like the Champions League."
His expression became serious.
"If we don't want to become tomorrow's headlines for all the wrong reasons, then we have to earn this win."
The look in their captain's eyes instantly wiped the smiles off everyone's faces. The Arsenal players immediately became more focused as they completed their final preparations.
Realistically speaking, even with Arsenal's inconsistent form, they remained overwhelming favorites.
The gap in quality between the two squads was simply too large.
Still, nobody wanted to be remembered as the defending champions who stumbled against the group's underdogs.
"Captains, please come for the coin toss."
Kai walked toward the referee, carrying Arsenal's club pennant.
After exchanging pennants, Astana captain Bosnikov unexpectedly stretched out his hand.
"Good luck."
Kai paused for a moment.
Still, since the gesture was friendly, Kai reached out in return.
Just as their hands were about to meet, Bosnikov suddenly pulled his hand back with a grin and gave Kai a playful wink.
Kai blinked before letting out a helpless laugh.
"So that's your game."
A tiny psychological trick.
After turning away, Bosnikov's smile disappeared.
He knew the odds were heavily against Astana.
If he could unsettle Arsenal, even slightly, perhaps his team could gain a small advantage. Unlike some of his younger teammates, who were thrilled simply to face a European powerhouse, Bosnikov wanted something else.
He wanted to win.
Turning toward his teammates, he clapped loudly.
"Жігіттер, алға! Бұл – Астана екенін көрсетейік! Оларға әрбір допты күшпен алғызыңдар!" (Come on! Let's show them this is Astana. Make them earn every single ball!)
The Astana players answered with an enthusiastic roar.
The Arsenal players watched quietly.
None of them looked impressed.
Empty speeches meant nothing once the whistle blew.
The starting lineups appeared on the stadium's giant screen.

Astana would kick off.
Swedish referee Martin Strömbergsson glanced at both halves before raising the whistle to his mouth.
The match officially began.
Kabananga tapped the ball to a teammate, and Astana calmly started circulating possession inside their own half.
Martin Tyler's voice echoed through the broadcast.
"Welcome to the UEFA Champions League. Tonight, Astana make history by playing their first ever group-stage match, and what a challenge awaits them. Standing opposite them are the defending European champions, Arsenal."
Rob Hawthorne continued.
"It doesn't get much tougher than this. For Astana, it's a historic occasion. For Arsenal, it's another opportunity to prove they're beginning to rediscover the level that made them kings of Europe."
As soon as the referee signaled the start, Arsenal played as though they were facing one of Europe's elite.
They pressed high, hunted in packs, and denied Astana even a second to settle on the ball.
The home side immediately struggled under the relentless pressure.
Their defenders exchanged a few hurried passes before retreating all the way back to the goalkeeper.
Unable to cope, Bosnikov lifted a long ball toward striker Kabananga.
Kabananga used his strength to shield the ball, forcing Kante backward one step at a time.
Then he suddenly stopped moving.
Kai had arrived.
The Arsenal captain stepped in from the side, closing the space with perfect timing. Together, he and Kante squeezed Kabananga from both directions until the striker had nowhere left to turn.
"Kabananga is completely boxed in by Kai and Kante," Martin Tyler observed. "That's exactly why Arsenal's midfield is so difficult to play against. They don't simply win possession. They trap you first."
Kabananga tried to muscle his way through, but Kai calmly leaned into the challenge before poking the ball cleanly away.
The Astana forward could only watch as possession disappeared.
Kai gathered the loose ball, and Kabananga immediately charged after him.
With a subtle touch to his left, Kai tempted the striker into committing.
The moment Kabananga shifted his weight, Kai dragged the ball sharply across his body with the outside of his boot, spinning away in one smooth motion.
One touch.
One feint.
One defender eliminated.
"Kai skips past him with ease," Rob Hawthorne said. "He made that look effortless."
Rather than rushing forward, Kai slowed the tempo.
He advanced at his own pace, scanning every movement ahead of him.
Although his dribbling was still developing, he had begun deliberately using moments like these to improve under real match conditions.
He slipped a simple pass into Wilshere before drifting into open space instead of dropping deep.
Then his eyes caught something.
Aubameyang.
The striker was already bouncing on his toes, ready to explode.
More importantly, the space behind Astana's left back had opened.
Kai immediately pointed.
"Jack!"
Wilshere understood at once.
He rolled the ball back the first time.
Kai never even considered taking a touch.
His body opened naturally.
His right foot whipped through the ball.
Bang!
The pass climbed into the night sky before dropping with pinpoint precision behind Astana's back line.
"A sensational first-time pass from Kai!" Martin Tyler exclaimed. "He saw the run before anyone else!"
Aubameyang arrived exactly where the ball landed.
The first touch killed its pace completely.
He barely needed to adjust his stride.
Inside, Aubameyang smiled.
Nobody in football delivered passes quite like Kai.
It always felt as though every stride had been measured before the ball was even struck.
One touch carried him into the penalty area.
Instant panic spread across Astana's defense.
"Қайта жиналыңдар! Барлығы кері қайтыңдар!" ,Bosnikov shouted.
("Recover! Everybody back!")
Only seconds earlier, they had believed their defensive line was one of the team's greatest strengths.
Now it had been split apart by a single pass.
Bosnikov sprinted desperately toward Aubameyang.
He had only one objective.
Don't let him shoot.
Just as he closed the distance, Aubameyang gently scooped the ball.
Bosnikov instinctively ducked.
The ball floated over his shoulder, brushing so close that he felt the air against his face before it dropped into the space behind him.
"Жоқ!" Bosnikov gasped.
("No!")
He spun around.
Too late.
Suarez had already ghosted away from his marker.
None of the defenders even noticed when he made the run.
By the time they reacted, the Uruguayan was already in front of the goal.
Suarez met the dropping ball with complete composure.
One touch.
One finish.
Swish!
The net rippled violently.
Five minutes played.
Astana 0, Arsenal 1.
"Gooooooooooooooooal!" Martin Tyler roared.
"Suarez strikes early for Arsenal! Clinical movement, clinical finishing, and the defending champions are in front inside five minutes!"
Rob Hawthorne could only admire what he had witnessed.
"That was wonderfully constructed. Kai's vision was exceptional, Aubameyang's awareness was outstanding, and Suarez did exactly what elite strikers do. He anticipated everything before anyone else."
The away end erupted.
Thousands of Arsenal supporters leaped to their feet as Suarez raced toward the corner flag with both arms spread wide.
Kai pointed toward Aubameyang before jogging over to embrace both teammates.
The move had lasted only a few seconds.
From winning possession in midfield...
To one perfectly weighted pass...
To one clever assist...
To one ruthless finish.
Pat Rice allowed himself a small smile on the touchline.
Exactly the response he wanted.
Across the technical area, Astana's coaching staff exchanged stunned looks. Their defense, which had carried them through the Champions League qualifiers, had been dismantled almost effortlessly.
Martin Tyler summed it up as the celebrations continued.
"It looked so simple, but only because Arsenal executed every detail perfectly. Kai's vision, Aubameyang's movement, and Suarez's instinct inside the box were all top class."
