Chapter 814 - Chapter 608

The bridge thrums with energy of a vessel preparing for war. Holographic displays flicker and pulse across the obsidian walls, each one showing a different view of the world outside—the open waters of the sea, the crimson sails of the Red Force, the dark silhouette of the Pluton floating like a sleeping leviathan nearby. The singularity core hums at the heart of the ship, a contained stellar fire that casts strange shadows across the assembled crew.

Marya Zaleska leans against the main console, arms folded, her golden-ringed gaze roaming over the faces before her. Nisshoku rests along her back, its obsidian surface reflecting splinters of holographic light, while the leather jacket bearing the Heart Pirates insignia murmurs softly with every shift.

The crew has assembled.

Galit Varuna stands near the pilot's station, his impossibly long neck coiled into a loose S-curve, his emerald eyes darting between the displays and his captain. The geometric kelp-scars on his olive skin shift as he moves, each pattern a story written in flesh.

Atlas Acuta lounges against the far wall, the ambient glow threading copper through his rust-red fur. His blue eyes rest half-lidded, quiet as dusk before a storm. Behind him, his nub traces an idle rhythm while his gleaming claws tick against the obsidian alloy, keeping time with the singularity core's pulse.

Jelly "Giggles" Squish bounces near the center of the bridge, his translucent blue body rippling with every meeting of gel and deck plate. Ember orbits him in tightening arcs, all restless flame and bright-eyed mischief.

Ember "The Pyre" grins—a wide, manic expression that flickers between genuine delight and something darker. Her neon-pink hair, streaked with soot, bounces with each step. Her mismatched eyes—one icy blue, one gold—track Jelly's movements with unnerving focus.

"Gotcha!" she shrieks, lunging.

Jelly bounces higher, his body compressing and expanding with a wet squelch. "Bloop! You missed!"

Ember giggles—a sound that edges toward a cackle. "I'll get you next time, jelly-boy!"

Jannali Bandler stands near the viewport, her afro swaying as she turns toward the chaos. Holographic light spills in gold and crimson across her headscarf, and quiet laughter gleams in her brown eyes, born from long practice at finding joy in the absurd.

Eliane Anđel bounces on the balls of her feet beside her, her silver ponytail swinging, her blue eyes bright with excitement. The paprika smudge on her cheek has somehow migrated to her forehead, and there's a new stain—something purple, maybe beet juice—on her collar.

Vesta Lavana stands near the center of the bridge, her rainbow hair shimmering, her violet eyes fixed on Luffy with the intensity of a superfan in the presence of legend.

Aurélie Nakano Takeko stands apart from the others, her silver hair cascading down her back, her steel-gray eyes fixed on some point in the middle distance. Anathema rests against her hip, the cursed blade's surface flickering with faint crimson pulses. Her expression remains unreadable—stoic, disciplined, carrying the weight of a warrior who has spent decades learning to hide her emotions.

Bianca Yvonne Clark occupies a corner of the bridge, her waist-length black hair escaping from its messy bun, pencils sticking out at odd angles. Her grease-stained overalls are worn open to reveal a floral blouse beneath—pink roses on a cream background, now smudged with engine oil. Her magnifying goggles rest on her forehead, and her calloused hands—nails painted a vibrant coral—gesture wildly as she talks to herself.

Charlie Leonard Wooley stands near the back of the bridge, his vintage pith helmet perched on his head, while holographic colors drift across his round wire-framed glasses like reflections from another age. His khaki shirt and shorts are crisp and pressed, and his leather satchel—bursting with scrolls, ink bottles, and crumbling notebooks—hangs from his shoulder. He clears his throat every few seconds, a nervous habit that echoes through the bridge.

Sanza Kaplan Figarland stands near Marya, his short legs planted firmly on the deck, his heavy Gallagher eyebrows drawn together in concentration. His red hair—unruly, uncombed—sticks up in odd directions, and his small hands are clasped behind his back in a posture that suggests he's imagining himself as a general surveying his troops.

Bō-Zak Kaminosukei leans against the far wall, his pipe clenched between his teeth, smoke curling into the recycled air. Indolence softens his features, yet beneath it waits the stillness of banked fire, saving its heat for the hour it will matter.

Law sits in a chair near the center of the bridge, his legs crossed, Kikoku resting against his shoulder. His spotted hat casts his tattooed features into shadow, but his eyes—dark, calculating—move constantly, cataloging every detail of the scene.

And Luffy.

Monkey D. Luffy stands near the viewport, a massive leg of meat clutched in both hands. His jaw works with mechanical rhythm, tearing off chunks of roasted pork, and the juices run down his chin in glistening rivulets. His straw hat sits askew on his head, and his eyes—wide, starry, impossibly bright—hold Marya with a trust newly kindled, its promise belonging only to the present moment.

Marya scans the group. Her voice cuts through the chaos with the authority of a captain addressing her crew.

"Galit. Plot a course to Elegia."

Galit nods, his neck uncoiling slightly. "Understood."

Bianca interrupts, her hands flying upward as sudden remembrance sparks through her voice.

"We can't like jump right now!"

Marya waves a hand, shaking her head. Her voice remains calm, measured.

"No. Stay topside, with the solar sail. Match your speed with the Red Force."

Bō-Zak exhales a ribbon of smoke. His voice drifts through it, languid and certain, as though the answer had settled in his bones long before the question found its tongue.

"Sounds like you aren't coming with us."

Marya nods. Her expression remains unchanged, but something flickers behind her golden-ringed eyes—something that might be determination, might be anticipation.

"Me, Jannali, Aurélie, Eliane—"

Luffy swallows the meat in his mouth with an audible gulp. His hand shoots up, waving frantically.

"AND ME!"

Marya nods, her lips quirking with the faintest hint of amusement.

"Luffy will be going with Law, Shanks, and Beckman to Bootleg Island."

Sanza springs upward, his short legs launching him from the deck as outrage rattles through his small frame—the raw thunder of being denied a place at the adventure.

"Big Sis! I want to go too!"

Marya shakes her head. Finality settles into her voice, quiet and immovable as an anchor on the seafloor.

"Not this time."

Sanza balls his fists. His face flushes—a deep, angry red that spreads from his cheeks to his ears.

"Why does Eliane get to go and I don't?!"

Marya looks down her nose at him. Her expression remains calm, but beneath it lies the tempered resolve of countless storms weathered at the helm.

"This is not a holiday. We are going for a specific purpose and returning. We don't have time for distractions."

Sanza opens his mouth—about to argue, about to protest, about to fight—

Marya cuts him off.

"Enough, Sanza."

Her voice sharpens. Each word closes another door, until no room remains for argument.

"That is my decision. Stay here, keep training, and keep Jelly out of the refrigerator."

Sanza's jaw opens. Closes. Opens again.

Then he marches to a nearby chair and collapses into it, his small frame bowing beneath an injustice vast enough to eclipse the world. His arms cross over his chest, and his lower lip juts out in a pout that could be seen from orbit.

Luffy interjects, his voice bright with guileless confusion, untouched by the gravity weighing on everyone else.

"Yeah! Why doesn't he get to go?"

Marya ignores him. Her attention shifts to Charlie, who has watched the exchange with a scholar's rapt curiosity, as though every quarrel concealed a lost history waiting to be unearthed.

"Charlie."

Charlie perks up. His hand rises, sliding his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He clears his throat—Ahem!—the sound echoing through the bridge.

"Yes, Marya?"

"Look up Elegia and Tot Musica. See if there is anything in the ancient database that may be useful."

Charlie nods, his expression sharpening into purpose. A newly opened mystery lights his features, and already his thoughts are racing down corridors the centuries forgot.

"Is there something specific you are looking for?"

Marya sighs. Her gaze drifts to the viewport, to the waters beyond, to the memories that cling to her like ghosts.

"I want to know more about this demon's abilities."

She holds her chin, her brow furrowing with concentration.

"It was able to manipulate the minds of so many in a single moment. When we were there, we walked away aware and retaining our memories. But others didn't. I want to know why."

Charlie clears his throat again, his fingers already twitching toward his satchel.

"Could it be that the combination of people and abilities you had with you at the time were a factor?"

Marya nods slowly.

"Possibly. But—"

Law interrupts, his voice honed to a quiet edge as curiosity draws him deeper into the exchange.

"Who was with you when you went?"

Vesta jumps. Her hand shoots up, waving frantically, her rainbow hair bouncing with the movement.

"Oh! I was there!"

She strikes a pose—dramatic, theatrical, her fingers finding invisible strings in the air. Mikasi, her living guitar, wiggles in confirmation from its position strapped across her back.

"Mikasi had an epic battle with that demon!"

Eliane jumps up, her silver ponytail swinging.

"I was there too! I was with Jannali when she found all the other Utas."

Jannali nods, her expression thoughtful.

"Yeah. I had a shocker of a headache until the grog was gone."

Atlas adds, his voice trailing behind his thoughts, already wandering beyond the conversation.

"Noodle Neck and I were there too."

Luffy asks, his mouth still half-full of meat, the words coming out mangled and indistinct.

"Why didn't you free her then, if you were there?"

Law snaps around, his voice sharp.

"KEEP UP, STRAW HAT! Because the demon king wouldn't let her!"

Luffy's eyes begin to blaze. The fire of a man who has just been reminded of an injustice—of a friend in danger, of an enemy who needs to be defeated—ignites behind his pupils. He clutches the bone in his grip, and his voice comes out low, dangerous.

"TOT MUSICA!"

Marya snaps, her voice cutting through the mounting tension.

"Focus!"

She looks back at Charlie, her expression composed once more.

"Coordinate with the other ships. See what you can learn."

Charlie nods, his hand already reaching into his satchel.

Marya looks at Galit.

"I suspect we will be in a hurry when we get back."

Galit nods, his emerald eyes narrowing with focus.

"I will find the fastest current."

Bianca adds, her hands gesturing wildly.

"I, like, might be able to, like, help increase the speed of the Red Force and stuff too."

Marya nods.

"Good. We will be taking two mini-subs. Stay in communications. If we run into trouble—"

She pauses. Shrugs.

"Actually, never mind."

Laughter unfurls across the bridge, warm and unguarded—a bright thread drawn through the impossible.

Jelly bounces through the air, his translucent body wobbling with each arc. Ember follows, her arms outstretched, her mismatched eyes fixed on her target.

"Gotcha!"

She wraps her arms around him. They tumble to the deck in a heap of gelatinous blue and chaotic pink, and Ember's laughter—high, manic, genuine—echoes through the bridge.

The meeting ends.
