Everything that had happened today had driven him into a frenzy—Lady Hyde getting hurt, Charles Hyde's cold-blooded shouting, and now Iris Harris coming home late only made him more irritable.
He had people go look for her, and he didn't think she'd been kidnapped. All of her movements in River City were under surveillance, and so far, those protecting her hadn't reported anything back to him. Which meant she was safe.
Yet just over ten minutes later, someone called him to say that Iris Harris had disappeared.
The people guarding her in the dark phoned him in a panic, saying that at noon Iris Harris had gone into a café and had stayed inside, never coming out.
But when they just went in, they discovered she was no longer there. They asked the staff, and the staff said she had gone out the back door not long after she went in.
