"We're having lunch at home."
Brandan got off the car and spoke to Mother Rulin.
"Oh, okay!"
Mother Rulin nodded and hurried into the kitchen to get ready.
Iris Harris entered the house, watching Brandan take out a bottle of dark beer from the liquor cabinet and then head upstairs.
She withdrew her gaze, sitting on the sofa with a slight frown.
She didn't quite trust Brandan, yet she rarely doubted him for anything. But Henry Ford's conversation with him had inexplicably caught her attention.
Henry Ford said he was hiding the truth for his own selfish reasons. Was that truth related to her?
She felt inexplicably nervous.
She felt as though she'd detected a huge secret, but Brandan blocked the entrance to it, preventing her from approaching.
Would that secret lead her to leave Brandan?
Leaving him, those three words had always been what she hoped for, yet Brandan's actions suppressed them, making her resign herself to staying by his side.
