Maybe Brandan was right after all.
The reason he didn't come to see her was that he already had something more important than her.
He couldn't let go of everything he had fought for today; he had so many things to attend to, he didn't have time—perhaps it was simply because she wasn't as important as the things he needed to do.
Perhaps this was the biggest difference between him and Brandan.
He had heard bits and pieces about Brandan's actions over these three years, and such reckless abandon was something he could never do.
He had far more concerns than Brandan did.
Brandan was silent for a moment, then stood up from the sofa. Looking at James, he said, "I came here today to thank you."
"Thank me?"
"Thank you for bringing her to me. Without you, I might never have met her. But as of today, I truly love her, more than you do."
James felt a bit displeased, feeling that he really gave this kid a good deal.
