The more he thought, the more unsettled he became.
His movements slowed.
For a brief moment, he simply stood there in the middle of combat.
Felix and Kael, who were covering him during the hunt, immediately noticed.
"Silas!" Felix shouted, rushing toward him. "Focus!"
A zombie lunged at Silas, its claws slicing through the air inches from his face.
He barely dodged in time, the foul stench of rot brushing against him.
Kael's voice trembled. "What's wrong with you? This isn't like you!"
They had never seen him so distracted.
For a second, they even considered calling Ivy, fearing something was deeply wrong.
But they forced themselves to concentrate and soon cleared the remaining zombies.
After the battle, they found a quiet spot and sat down to rest.
Felix wiped sweat from his brow and looked directly at Silas. "Tell us what's going on."
Silas hesitated, then asked in a low voice,
"What would you do… if the person you love had another soulmate?"
