Chapter 14: Oath of Flame and Frost

The frost crept in like an omen.

Leonhart stood at the edge of the Embervale, his boots dusted with dying embers, the wind trailing ash like whispers from a fading dream. His training with Kael had left its mark—not just on his body, but on something deeper. He no longer burned uncontrollably. The fire within him had learned to listen.

And now, it called to something else.

He felt it in the wind: a chill far older than the mountains. Ice, not born of winter, but of memory.

A crack split the silence.

From the ridge ahead descended a figure, cloaked in furs so pale they reflected the clouds. His armor shimmered with veins of frost, his breath steaming like dragon smoke. In his hand, he carried a massive blade—silver-blue, humming with a cry colder than steel.

Leonhart didn't flinch. "You've come a long way to find me."

The figure stopped a few paces away and spoke with a voice like splintering glaciers. "I came for the fire. But I find ashes."

"Depends who you ask."

The man drove his sword into the ground. Ice blossomed from its tip, forming a perfect circle beneath their feet.

"Vengard. Last of the Glacierborne. Bound to the Oath of Iceheart."

Leonhart's eyes narrowed. The name wasn't unfamiliar. He'd seen it scrawled in ancient scrolls, tied to tales of a dragon who once froze the breath of summer.

"You're not just a warrior," Leonhart said. "You're a remnant."

"A relic," Vengard corrected. "One that remembers what this world used to fear."

"Then why now? Why come to me?"

Vengard approached, eyes meeting his. "Because the world needs more than fire. It needs balance. Fire alone burns it all. Ice alone freezes hope. Together… they temper one another."

He offered his hand. Not a greeting. A test.

Leonhart took it.

The frost beneath them didn't shatter—it reshaped, forming a new sigil: a circle of flame entwined with frost.

---

In the days that followed, the mountain echoed with the clash of steel and breath. Vengard and Leonhart trained relentlessly—fire meeting frost, instinct meeting resolve. It wasn't just sparring. It was reforging. Leonhart could feel it: with each strike, he became something more.

During a rare moment of stillness, Vengard spoke while tending to his sword.

"We need others. This battle isn't yours alone."

Leonhart nodded. "I've seen them. In visions, dreams. One rides the wind. Another hides in the light. The last… stands at death's door."

Vengard looked up. "Then it's time. We gather them."

Leonhart stood, gripping his blade. "We won't be alone anymore."

---

Far across the world, the wind whispered through the desert. A hooded figure ran along dune ridges, feet never touching the ground.

In the ruins of a forgotten temple, a child traced a glowing sigil into the sand, her silver eyes glowing.

And in the dark beneath the earth, where nothing should breathe, something opened its eyes—and smiled.

---

Back in the highlands, Vengard stared at the horizon.

"This world will fall if we don't act. Satin moves in silence now, but the storm is coming."

Leonhart drew his blade, the ember crest glowing bright.

"Then let's give the world a reason to rise."

They stood side by side.

The fire.

The frost.

And behind them, the first whispers of a team—Avengers not of politics or vengeance, but of surviv

al.

Their oath was simple:

"When flame and frost unite, the dark shall kneel."
