Chapter 582: The Proper Use of a Water Gun

Just as Lin Yuxia had predicted, without her signature custom-forged sword at hand, Ch'en looked rather disadvantaged when faced with the sudden assault from the white-haired Lupo.

Even though all she held was a cheap water gun—the kind kids used for summer games—Ch'en still made the most rational choice possible the instant danger struck.

Not firing it, obviously.

At the end of the day, it was still just a toy water gun. If someone expected this thing to blow a person's head off with a single shot, then either the laws of the world had completely broken down… or the water gun had been made by that particular someone. Only then would such nonsense be possible.

So what Ch'en actually did was this:

The moment the girl's twin blades were about to slash into her, Ch'en hurled the water gun straight at the girl's face like a projectile.

The expression on the Lupo girl's face perfectly matched the kind of smile a horror movie villain would wear while committing murder—wild, twisted, and utterly without restraint. There wasn't even the slightest sense of mismatch. It was as if she had been born solely to kill the Lungmen officer standing before her.

The thrown water gun never reached its target.

Before it could hit, the girl's twin swords flashed through the air and split it cleanly in half. Water burst outward in every direction, almost like a grotesque imitation of blood spraying across the battlefield.

But for Ch'en, that was enough.

The exploding splash obscured part of the girl's vision for a brief instant, giving Ch'en just enough time to evade the merciless strike.

Judging from the force behind the slash that cut the water gun apart, the girl clearly had no intention of "talking things out." She was absolutely aiming to kill.

Ch'en lowered her body and twisted aside, narrowly avoiding the incoming blades as they carved through empty air beside her. But instead of retreating to safety, she suddenly surged forward.

In a single motion, she closed the distance and grabbed the wrist holding one of the swords, preventing the girl from reversing the blade for another attack. At the same time, Ch'en drove her knee upward toward the girl's abdomen.

Sure, Ch'en spent most of her time training in swordsmanship, but that didn't mean she was weak at close-quarters combat.

After all, she had worked in the Lungmen Guard Department for years. Compared to the majority of its officers, Ch'en's hand-to-hand combat skills ranked among the very best.

And with the naturally powerful physique she possessed, the sudden combo genuinely caught the girl off guard.

The white-haired Lupo had already anticipated that Ch'en's counterattack would target her lower body the moment her wrist was seized. Originally, she intended to ignore the attack entirely, force her way free, and trade a knee strike for a slash.

Unfortunately for her, the strength in Ch'en's grip exceeded expectations.

Left with no choice, she slammed her swords downward with force and used the momentum to leap upward. Not only did she narrowly avoid Ch'en's knee strike, but she also flipped over in a motion resembling a bicycle kick, landing behind Ch'en in an instant.

Using that angle, the white-haired girl successfully escaped Ch'en's hold. Her twin weapons were freed once more, their blades immediately aimed at the completely exposed back of the superintendent.

Even Ch'en hadn't expected the girl to be so agile.

She gave off the impression of a lone wolf, yet moved with the nimbleness of a cat.

The moment her attack missed, Ch'en realized she had exposed the most vulnerable part of her body. Without even turning her head, she threw herself forward.

The rather undignified dive looked miserable, but it allowed the Lupo girl's twin blades to miss once again.

The swords swept past Ch'en's back by mere centimeters. The sword aura riding along the blades nearly tore open the clothes on her back.

"Not bad at all."

Watching Ch'en roll across the ground and swiftly turn to face her again, the white-haired girl finally stopped attacking. Instead, she casually stabbed her twin swords into the ground and clapped her hands lightly in genuine admiration.

"With skills like that… you must hold quite an important position in Lungmen, hm?"

"I already told you, I'm the Special Inspection Unit Chief of the Lungmen Guard Department. What you just did officially counts as assaulting an officer. Unless you want to end up on the citywide wanted list, I suggest you obediently put down your weapons and come with me."

Ch'en let out a long breath.

She truly hadn't expected the other girl to be this skilled. Without Chi Xiao at her side, she had nearly ended up losing the exchange entirely. Fortunately, for some reason, the girl had stopped attacking and given her a moment to breathe—just enough time for Ch'en to steady herself.

It had been far too long since she'd engaged in close-quarters combat like this, especially against an armed opponent whose skill was completely on par with her own.

To be honest, Ch'en was at a disadvantage the entire time.

Thankfully, she had already secretly contacted her companions earlier. All she needed to do now was stall for time until reinforcements arrived.

The scarred eye of the white-haired girl narrowed slightly.

Yet despite the faint curve on her lips, there wasn't even a trace of amusement in her gaze. What lingered there instead was a cold warning.

"Miss," the girl said calmly, "trust isn't something you can earn just because you say a few nice words. You were the one following me first. I merely fought back because I had no other choice… wasn't that the case?"

Ch'en frowned deeply at that response.

From the ruthless way the girl had attacked her without hesitation earlier, there was absolutely nothing about it that resembled a "helpless counterattack." Or perhaps, in this girl's mind, a counterattack simply had to be this extreme.

Ch'en's curiosity toward the mysterious girl only deepened.

But instead of speaking further, she simply held the girl's gaze in silence, waiting for backup to arrive.

"Still…" the white-haired Lupo girl continued, "judging from your fighting style just now, you really do fight like one of those nosy cops."

As she spoke, she pulled the twin swords embedded in the ground free and smoothly returned them to their sheaths. At the same time, the madness that had filled her expression gradually faded away.

"I don't want trouble," she said flatly. "So it'd be best if you stopped interfering with me too, alright? I only came to this city to look for someone. Once I find them, I'll leave on my own."

Clearly, the Lupo girl had no intention of continuing the confrontation.

But then, as though she suddenly sensed something, she turned her head toward the direction where Steven and Lin Yuxia were hiding.

"That answer should satisfy you, shouldn't it?"

With a casual snap of her fingers, her body instantly shot backward like a fleeing white wolf.

In the blink of an eye, the girl vanished into the far end of the alleyway.
