Chapter 238 - 238. Sea sleeping

"Well, we mostly don't." The undersea-walker scratched its neck.

"What do you mean, you mostly don't?" Suk's eyes widened and he grimaced as if he had eaten a rotten apple.

"Just like I said. We don't usually sleep on the road." The undersea-walker explained.

"So how do you travel far?" Benkó asked the question with his arms folded in front of him.

"On currents. Like the one over there." The ex-Foreign Minister pointed slightly to the left above their heads.

"If you travel far with such a thing, why don't we go with it now?" The next logical question came from Tele Tete.

"Because I have no idea where it takes you!" Llyr spread his arms in despair. "And I don't think that map can tell you that either." He mumbled the end, as if he hoped no one would hear him.

"I've never seen an undersea-walker map before." Achilleus shrugged, as if what he was saying made perfect sense.

"What?" Llyr blinked at him, and Achilleus rolled his eyes.

"Your map is full of signs that I don't know what they mean. I recognize the walking path. Yeah, right." Here the Motumisz boy raised his left index finger and pointed directly upwards. "There's a road above our heads like the one we took to the Floating Barracks. I don't know what the other scribbles mean." He admitted after a sigh, but he quickly smiled. "I'll have to find a map when we get to the city." He said enthusiastically.

"We have to get there first." Razvan held his head in one hand, then looked at Kamu. "Can you make us a shaman's circle? It wouldn't be nice to wake up to an enemy in the middle of the night." The leader of the Athamanas put his hands on his hips, shaking his head.

"Just tell me where to do it and it will be done." The ghost-man waved a hand.

"Right. Then I think it will be best if we keep going as long as we can. It would be better to get close to humanity as soon as possible." The boy explained, and when the group agreed to the matter, they set off, but Llyr didn't move a single step and just rubbed his hands in front of his chest.

"Is something wrong, my undersea-walker sir?" Kamu asked with a faint mocking half-smile on his lips.

"I don't think we want to go any further." The undersea-walker ex-foreign minister muttered.

"Why?" Rahul looked at him curiously, but he had just finished his sentence when the faint bluish light that had surrounded them until now suddenly turned into pitch blackness.

"That's why." Came the soft voice of the undersea-walker.

"Damn it, I can't even see up to my nose!" Grunted Benkó and immediately raised his hand in front of him to light a fire out of habit. He didn't even have time to be surprised that he had succeeded when the undersea-walker got next to him and quickly closed his palms to make the flame disappear.

"Thank the sea spirit." The man whispered. "Don't do that again." He said it still softly.

"But I can't see anything." Benkó objected.

"It's good until then, this way nothing can see you either." He received the answer from Llyr, but in such a serious tone that every member of the team was surprised by it.

"What?" Finally came the question from Teveli.

"I don't know about you up there, but down here it's not the safest place to be out at night outside of cities or caves. Especially not if there's a light nearby. You'll attract predators with it and you'll quickly become dinner. If you're not in a city, then light at night is only a danger. So if you see a light at eye level or below, don't go near it. Nine times out of ten it's not safe." The words suddenly flowed from the underseah-walker.

"So you're saying that we should sit here in total darkness until morning?" Benkó asked the next question and although no one could see his face, they could tell from his voice that the boy was grimacing.

"Well, if you can't find your way back to the cave blindly, then yes." Came the striking answer from Llyr.

"The shaman's circle is ready." Kamu suddenly spoke, which made everyone turn to him, even though no one could see anything in the darkness. "Although it might be better if Teveli srenghtened it before the Bokló child lit a fire." He noted it casually.

"It's hard if I don't see it." The youngest Teike muttered.

"It's right in front of your feet, you've been standing next to me all this time. I guess you've seen a shaman's circle before. You can't ruin it." Kamu explained.

"If you were standing next to him, Tev, how did you not notice him drawing the circle?" Suk asked loudly in confusion.

"I knew he was drawing, but not what." The Zovárd child received the grumpy answer, but the voice came from a decidedly strange angle, so the group quickly realized that the boy had probably already started to strenghten the shaman's circle.

Long minutes passed in complete darkness in silence. Even the slightest distant noise seemed frightening, especially since the hegins and their team could not see where the sounds were coming from. Most of them had already taken up a fighting stance when the lights went out around them and remained in such, waiting for someone or something to attack them.

"It's ready, noone comes in or goes out of this until morning." The young Teveli announced.

"So can I light a fire now?" Benkó asked the next question.

"Theoretically yes." He got the answer.

"What do you mean theoretically?" The question came from Razvan, but the Bokló boy had already lit a fire above his palm.

"You hear me Rahul, the next time we meet Marianne I have a lot to ask her." Benkó said, constantly watching the fire floating above his palm. "Where is that lantern of yours?" He suddenly turned to Rahul.

"What do you want with it?" The chüvigh hegin asked, but he only got an eyeroll in response when he held out the object to Benkó.

"So that I don't have to stay awake all night." He finally announced as he lit the lantern, which filled the shaman's circle with a faint glow.

"Oh, how did you do that?" Suk asked, scratching his head, as he stared at the edge of the shaman's circle. When the others began to observe the point he was looking at, they were all surprised to find that the blue light that the cold fire was radiating from itself seemed to stop at one point and then there was only blackness.

"Kamu is almost at táltos seven stars." Razvan smiled. "Not quite yet there, then Tev shouldn't have strengthened it, but he's strong enough to make the shaman's circle disappear from the eyes of unauthorized people." The boy explained.

"Wait, does that mean I can influence what it's doing?" The ghost-man gaped.

"Didn't you learn anything from Inepta?" Razvan raised his eyebrows.

"You're talking about Kamu, Tapló boss. What he doesn't find interesting, he won't learn." Etele sighed heavily as he appeared among the team members.

"True." Razvan agreed, then shook his head. "Let's go to bed, we have a long day tomorrow." He gave the order, and everyone started getting ready.
