Chapter 65 - Eye drop

The two socket-deep eyes fixed on Jezreel were almost enough to make someone collapse from sheer shock.

The worst part was not the stare — it was the fact that she had already stepped inside.

The door had shut behind her.

Escape, which might have been a reasonable option seconds ago, now felt like a fantasy.

Like hawks that fed on infants, the two gazes circled her without moving. She stood there feeling like prey caught between twin predators — waiting, not to strike in haste, but to let the air ripen… before tasting her soul as an appetizer.

Her fingers twitched once at her sides.

This time, Lunai led the charge.

"So explain something to this Nurice." Her tone was measured — which made it worse. "Where. Were. You?"

Lunai never led charges.

Which meant Jezreel was in for it.

She tried to swallow.

Nothing moved.

Her throat refused cooperation.

"I… was at the Library," she managed at last, the words scraping out thinly.

"Hoho. You are not convincing anyone, young lady."
