Chapter 288 - Chapter 288 Fall

"Withdraw."

Facing Blaziken's lightning-fast assault, Shizuo didn't show a hint of surprise. His command came sharp and immediate.

Blastoise's jointed limbs retracted instantly into its hard shell, followed by its head and short blue tail.

In the blink of an eye, the only thing awaiting Blaziken's charge was a massive, heavy shell.

Blaziken's sharp eyes locked onto its opponent, now fully in a defensive state. The light glowing from its clenched fists was so bright it was blinding.

"Boom—!"

With a burst of speed, Blaziken slammed its Focus Punch into Blastoise's shell, producing a deep, thunderous impact.

For less than a second, the two forces held firm—before the shell, along with the Blastoise inside, was sent flying horizontally across the battlefield.

"Whoosh!"

The sound of air being ripped apart by the heavy shell was shockingly loud.

Due to the angle of Blaziken's strike, Blastoise's shell was spinning rapidly as it flew.

"Rapid Spin."

Just as Blastoise was about to crash into the arena wall and take secondary damage, Shizuo gave another quick order.

The spinning shell suddenly stopped dead in midair.

The abrupt shift from extreme motion to complete stillness made the audience collectively wince.

Then, two thick, powerful legs extended from the shell's openings. Using the momentum from its backward flight, Blastoise slammed its feet against the wall.

Crack!

With just that single movement, the wall echoed with the sound of fracturing stone.

Cracks spread outward from where Blastoise's feet had struck.

Thud!

Another heavy sound followed.

Using its powerful legs, Blastoise kicked off the wall and launched itself forward like a cannonball

No, calling it a cannonball wouldn't do it justice. It was more like a rocket.

As it shot forward, its feet retracted once again into the shell.

Meanwhile, its spin accelerated even faster than before, so fast that faint streams of white air were visibly swirling around it.

"Screee—"

Silas's sharp hearing picked up the shrill hiss of the shell cutting through the air.

"Jump!"

Blastoise's lightning-speed counterattack left Silas no time for detailed commands—he could only shout a single word.

Fortunately, his bond with Blaziken was strong. Understanding his intent instinctively, Blaziken moved.

Its arms were still numb from striking the hard shell and taking recoil, but under Silas's command, it immediately adjusted.

Bending its long legs, Blaziken crouched low—then sprang upward with explosive force.

Unlike Blastoise's dramatic display, Blaziken's leap seemed almost plain and understated.

But spectacle never decides effectiveness.

Thanks to its powerful leg muscles and natural physical prowess, Blaziken executed Bounce, a Flying-type move. In that instant, it truly looked like a soaring Pokémon, shooting straight into the sky.

In the audience's eyes, Blaziken quickly became a mere black dot. Even those with sharp vision could barely make out its outline.

Of course, it had already exceeded the standard height limit of fifty or sixty meters.

However, that rule applied only to Pokémon capable of sustained flight—meant to prevent stalling tactics and make battles more engaging.

Since Blaziken couldn't actually fly, it wasn't restricted.

After all, it would soon come crashing down for an attack and that kind of aerial dive always pushed the audience's anticipation to its peak.

Whenever a Pokémon launched a midair strike from such a height, the entire crowd would hold their breath, terrified to miss even a moment.

Thanks to Blaziken's quick reaction, Blastoise's attack missed completely.

However, Blastoise, still spinning at low altitude parallel to the ground, continued moving erratically around the arena.

As long as it stayed mobile, the diving Blaziken wouldn't be able to pinpoint it and when Blaziken landed, it risked being countered.

Shizuo squinted, trying to locate Blaziken's position in the sky.

But under the direct sunlight, his eyes could see nothing.

A classic tactic—interfering with the opponent's vision using glare. Common, yes, but also effective.

Realizing this, Shizuo stopped searching and simply watched, expression calm, even a little relaxed.

In contrast, Silas's face was tense.

Something about this situation felt… odd.

Normally, when Blaziken had successfully dealt damage and emerged completely unscathed, while Blastoise had taken a hit and failed to counterattack, it should have been Blastoise's trainer who looked worried.

Yet here, it was the complete opposite.

"That defense… it's insane," Silas muttered under his breath.

Most people might not have noticed it, but during the brief moment when Blastoise had braced itself against the wall, Silas had spotted the area where Blaziken's attack had struck.

There was a small dent tiny, almost negligible when compared to the entire shell.

Even with multiple buffs in play, Blaziken's Focus Punch hadn't been able to directly pierce through Blastoise's defenses.

Against a typical pseudo–Elite Four–level opponent, that single strike would've been enough to knock them out of the battle.

Of course, the impact on the inside must have still been considerable, but a hit that barely showed any visible effect like this was the most discouraging kind of outcome.

Especially when the opponent still clearly had plenty of stamina to retaliate and you had no idea how much damage you'd actually inflicted.

Silas found it troublesome.

That kind of monstrous defensive ability made his scalp tingle and the worst part was that Blastoise wasn't just tanky; its offensive power was also formidable.

Now, with Blastoise spinning rapidly like that, it looked like an untouchable, hard-shelled hedgehog — except it was also a turtle.

Silas instinctively looked up again to confirm Blaziken's position.

By now, Blaziken had already begun descending; its figure was becoming clearer and closer to the ground.

It was time to make a decision.

Silas bared his teeth slightly but honestly, he didn't have many options left.

"Superpower!"

He shouted the next command loudly.

In the air, Blaziken, struggling to maintain its balance, gave a cold nod.

It closed its eyes, then suddenly opened them again.

Taking a deep breath, Blaziken relinquished control over its body, letting gravity pull it freely downward.

Its falling speed grew faster and faster, and its muscles swelled with power.

The two approaching figures — the falling Blaziken and the spinning Blastoise — silently waited for the perfect moment.

Unintentionally or not, Blastoise had positioned itself directly beneath the descending Blaziken.

"Crash down!"

Silas's eyes flashed with resolve as he gave the final command.

Trap or not, he would take it head-on.
