Back on the Thousand Sunny , the ship and the accompanying submarine had dived very deep. All around them was dark and silent. They could feel massive predators swimming past them in the darkness from time to time, which made some of the crew uneasy.
Chopper and Usopp were too scared to sleep, so they sat next to Carl, trembling. From their perspective, staying near Carl was the safest place when danger appeared.
However, Carl had been using his Observation Haki. Even though the predators were large, most of them were only at the level of Momoo, and they dared not cause trouble. Wild beasts have an instinct to avoid danger, and sea beasts were the same; they could sense the dangerous beings aboard the Sunny. They would scatter rather than attack.
At that moment, Carl noticed the Sunny suddenly caught an ocean current, and the ship's speed increased rapidly.
Nami appeared on the deck, carefully observing the situation, as she seemed to understand exactly what was happening. Because the ship's speed had suddenly increased, everyone returned to the deck. A spectacular sight greeted them: a massive ocean current was flowing vertically, straight down, like a gigantic waterfall.
"Wow! That's amazing! Is that a waterfall?!" Luffy exclaimed, his mouth hanging open in shock.
"A top-down ocean current? That's unbelievable!" Zoro couldn't help but sigh in awe.
"A vertical column of falling water! It's spectacular!"
"The seawater just keeps pouring down, so fast!"
"Nature is incredible!"
"Seeing this is much better than hearing a hundred tales about it!"
Everyone's eyes lit up, and they all admired the magical scene from the bottom of their hearts.
Carl held a camera, constantly choosing the best angles to take pictures. A scene like this was rare, and he knew it might be a long time before he saw it again, so he wanted to keep some photos.
Usopp subconsciously looked down the terrifying current, and his legs began to shake again. "It's bottomless! It's pitch black down there! It's over! It would be a miracle if we fell to the bottom of the sea at this speed and survived!"
Nami, worried, asked Franky, "Is it really okay to ride this current?"
Franky replied confidently, "Don't worry about the ship! The Thousand Sunny is the strongest ship, built with the precious Adam Tree wood!"
Hearing this answer, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Even someone as strong as Whitebeard would die if their ship capsized at the bottom of the sea. It was absolutely necessary to have a strong ship to survive the dangers of the Grand Line.
Luffy grinned, showing his white teeth. "Yos! Let's go! Head for the bottom of the sea!"
Franky received the order and immediately began to concentrate on steering the helm. The others quickly went to inform the Heart Pirates (Law's crew) in the submarine not to get separated.
But just then, Carl slightly frowned.
Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, who all possessed Observation Haki, squinted their eyes, clearly sensing something. Then, everyone's eyes looked in the same direction at once.
They saw a huge black shadow wriggling in the darkness, and several massive tentacles were stretching toward them.
"Hey, Luffy, something is coming!" Zoro instinctively grabbed the hilt of his sword.
"Yeah, I see it. It's a huge thing!" Luffy responded, pressing his straw hat down.
"Huh? What are you guys talking about? What huge thing?"
Chopper, Little B (Chopper's name in the source), and Jango, who didn't have Observation Haki, could only look around in confusion.
But at that moment, Momoo let out a panicked shout. The hair on its body stood on end, a clear sign that a monster had appeared. Chopper, acting as the crew's 'translator' for sea creatures, had his pupils shrink in surprise.
"Everyone! The Sea Monster Surume is here!" he cried.
Surume?
Everyone quickly took defensive positions. It didn't take long for a colossal Kraken to appear. This Kraken was unbelievably massive. Its mouth alone was as big as the Sunny, and several broken ships were wrapped around its tentacles. Clearly, many ships had met their end here.
"It's over! We encountered a sea monster in the deep sea! How can all of us Devil Fruit users fight down here?!" Usopp screamed, covering his face.
"Heh heh heh! This Kraken is so cool! I really want to keep him as a pet!" Luffy laughed instead.
The entire crew was baffled by Luffy's thinking. In this situation, the first thing anyone else would think about was how to save the ship. But Luffy immediately wanted to capture the sea monster as a pet. No one knew whether to praise his good attitude or simply call him recklessly foolish.
"What should we do? That's right! Momoo! Let Momoo go..."
Before Nami could finish her sentence, Momoo quickly hid behind the Sunny, obviously terrified of the Kraken. It was understandable. Though Momoo was a sea beast the size of a ship, the Kraken had a mouth bigger than the ship itself. It was only natural for Momoo to be afraid.
Still, they had to do something.
Everyone then looked toward Carl. At this moment, Carl was their most reliable leader.
Carl said casually, "I originally intended to use Conqueror's Haki to scare it away. But since Luffy wants to capture it as a pet, I thought of another way. Let Law handle it; the problem can be solved easily".
That's right! They should use Law!
Nami, Usopp, and Chopper immediately turned their heads to shout for Law. Law instantly understood Luffy's plan. He looked annoyed, but it was a simple task, and he couldn't easily refuse the request.
"ROOM! Amputate!"
Law opened his surgical space, covering the entire Kraken within his ROOM. Law's current strength was formidable, and the range of his Ope Ope no Mi (Op-Op Fruit) was wider than before, so covering the giant Kraken was no problem. He drew his cursed sword, Kikoku, and swung it forward, instantly slicing off all of the Kraken's tentacles mid-air.
The Kraken suddenly stared, its massive eyes wide with horror.
Luffy instantly became upset and yelled at Law, "Hey! Law! What did you do to my pet! How can he swim without his tentacles!"
Luffy was then immediately pushed onto the deck by his crewmates.
Usopp quickly explained, "Luffy, don't forget Law's power. That ability can cut off body parts and put them back on! It's very convenient!"
Luffy paused for a moment, then smiled again. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I blamed Law for nothing!"
Law was long used to the strange reactions of the Straw Hat captain. Keeping his cool, Law said coldly, "Bepo, tell it this: if it wants to return to normal, it must choose to surrender to us!"
Bepo translated the command. The Kraken immediately nodded sadly, completely aggrieved. Law then used his ability to restore the Kraken's tentacles. In less than half a minute, the Kraken was so terrified that it surrendered completely.
Luffy was thrilled and laughed loudly. "Hahahaha! Law did a great job! Alright, let the Little Squid pull the ship for us and take us to Fish-Man Island!"
Little Squid?
"Heh heh, Little Squid is the name I gave this sea monster!" Luffy explained. As soon as Luffy decided to subdue the Kraken, he had already thought of its name.
