Chapter 43 - Hal’s pretty little human mate

"My lord…she is my mate"

"Your mate…" Lucifer seemed to make sense out of what he said but he still had to be sure so he questioned him further. "And what makes you believe so?"

"From the moment I set my eyes on her, I immediately developed the demon mate conscience, I cannot be wrong about this my lord" he bowed again after speaking.

Lucifer was not surprised at all. He had seen through it all already when he saw the look on his face back at the mansion at the time she lay lifeless on the bed. He understood at that moment that Hal really cared for her and immediately knew that she was his mate. He has finally found her and just like he just said, he could not be wrong about it.

"Well then, congratulations" he breathed.

"Thank you my lord" Hal smiled shyly then bowed. He was in a daze hearing those words from the demon lord himself and even more surprised at himself that he suddenly just found his mate, that was something very unexpected.

"However…" Lucifer began again, looking around for a chair and making himself comfortable on it, going ahead to cross his powerful legs before continuing with his words. "You know she is of the human race. They are mostly scared of we demons, even more than they fear the witches or the sirens. Now how do you propose to break the news of her being mated to a demon to her?"

"I have no idea my lord" Hal's expression turned sour.

What his lord said was true and she was mostly likely going to reject him as her mate as she knew her race was scared of his and if that happened, he was not going to force her to be with him, even if it was going to break his heart. However, he was not going to give up easily. She was his mate and he was going to fight for her love, and he strongly believed that he would win her over and make their love stronger than the hostility that bred between their races.

"Good then" Lucifer nodded and Hal immediately understood what he was nodding for. He probably read his mind and heard his thoughts just now so there was certainly no use for him to speak again.

"I only seek your support and guidance to achieve this my lord" he bowed again.

"I will do everything within my power to help you Hal, I promise".

His promise was more than what Hal actually needed as he did not think he would that devoted to helping him. If there was anything Lucifer was known for across time, it was his unwavering ability to keep his words and most especially his promises. Since he has promised to help him with everything within his power, Hal could not feel less grateful.

"Thank you my lord, you are indeed too kind" he went ahead to kiss his feet this time.

"Enough now…" he helped him stand up. He always cringed a bit whenever Hal was being too formal with him, knowing fully well that they have been together for as long as he could remember and he rather saw him as a friend than a servant.

"Look, she is waking up" she pointed at the Saskia, seeing that she was making slow neck movements.

"Bring her to the mansion, it is urgent" He said finally before leaving the both of them alone. The last thing she would want to see after regaining her consciousness was the devil himself sitting comfortably by her sick bed. He looked human but his aura was too strong to mask. She was sure to have cold chills run down her spine on seeing him and he definitely did not want to scare away Hal's pretty little human mate, so he left.

Hal nodded at his words, not understanding what was urgent about bringing Saskia to the mansion but he dared not disobey. He went straight to her, waiting for her to be fully awake while he knelt right beside her and stared intently at her face like that was all he could do at the moment.

Her eyes balls rolled to the left and right with her eyes still closed as she clenched her fist hard, seeming to be in some kind of tense situation.

'Was she dreaming?' Hal pondered, monitoring her breaths and seeing how it picked up it's pace with each exhalation.

"Saskia?" He called her name gently, try to unclench her fists and feel her palms. "You are safe. Okay?" He continued to speak to her, hoping it would help wake her up, he was beginning to worry that maybe she was too scared to.

"No…" she muttered, shaking her head slowly.

"I am here" he said again, now feeling her both palms. They were sweaty and so was her neck and forehead too.

"No…no"

She kept muttering the word, over and over again till suddenly, a tear rolled down her left cheek.

Hal could not take this anymore. Immediately, he lifted her upper body up from the bed and hugged her tightly.

"I am here, you are safe. Nothing and no one is going to hurt you anymore". He kept repeating the words of affirmation into her ear with all the sincerity that was within him, feeling so much pain that even with him here, she was still suffering.

He continued with that and, believing it would make her feel safe enough to open her eyes and it did. She flickered them open and slowly released herself from his embrace bringing their faces together while she took the bliss to stare at him intently just like he had been doing to her for long hours now. She had her focus mainly on his eyes, they looked odd. Unique rather. His black almonds were ones she had never seen before or liken to another. His brows were full, not really carved and his lashes were long, really lengthy, making her instantly jump to the conclusion that he probably traded long hair for long lashes. His short black hair was not bad anyways, it looked good actually but she just found it weird that anyone would be ok with cutting their hair if not spirit slaves by the order of their masters. 'Or wait, was he a spirit slave?'

She pulled herself from his side completly, moving to the other side of the bed.

"I am sorry" Hal took the initiative to apologize first, noticing the hints of discomfort on her face.

He could not read minds but he was sure she was admiring his looks for some minutes there before she abruptly pushed him away like she remembered something or someone. 'Was she still scared? Did she see him as a threat or someone dangerous?' He thought but quickly waved it away, believing it untrue as she still say calmly on the bed, only seeming shy, not scared.

How could he have overlooked the fact that she was still human, a lady and waking up in the arms of a man was not a very comfortable situation if they were not a couple. Actually they were, she just does not realize it yet and he was ready and willing to take things slow.

"How do you feel?" He finally stood up, revealing his full height and physique. She swallowed hard but quickly looked away, wishing deeply that her face would not look too flustered so he would not noticed her expressions.

"Do you still feel pain anywhere, should I call the physician?" He went further to ask, still waiting for a reply.

"I am fine" she finally spoke, raising her face a bit.

"Great then" he breathed, not knowing what else to say as he unintentionally scratched the back of his head.

"You are the one who saved me from the baron's spirit slaves right?" She asked, blinkly her grey doe peepers.

"Yes". Hal answered, hoping to hear her speak again as her voice held a melody that was particularly soothing to his ears.

"Thank you so much good sir" she bowed her head a bit as an act of courtesy and appreciation for his help.

"No no" Hal was uncomfortable with the bow. "You do not have to do that, it is actually my duty to protect you and I promise I would never let you encounter any harm, ever again" he sounded very serious.

Saskia was a bit puzzled. 'His duty?' What did he mean by that? Could it be that he was actually a spirit slave but had belonged to her parents when they were still alive and have now tasked himself with protecting her since they died fighting for the spirit race? If that was the case then it was totally understandable. After her parents death, the spirit slaves under them who managed to escape then have always felt like they owe this debt of protection to her and in as much as she tries so hard to make them realize that she did not expect anything from them, she always ended up receiving coutless favors and found it difficult to turn them down.

Now here it was again, another spirit, free from slavery but swearing to protect her. She wanted to tell him that he did not have to feel like he owed her or anything but decided to spare herself the trouble. 'He was going to disagree anyways so what was the point of trying' she breathed, accepting her fate and going with the flow.

"Thank you so much, I really do appreciate" she smiled.

He felt his heart melt the instant her lips curved into that sweet smile. That was some kind of serenity that he had never felt before and he hopes to get more of that in the future. Oh how happy he was that he had found her, his mate!

"I am Saskia" she stretched forth her right hand for a shake. "What is yours?"

"Hal" he took her hand and shook her lightly.

"Do you feel comfortable?" He asked after letting go of her hand.

"Of course" she found his question so full of care, just as she expected. Everyone did love the young miss of the Marquis' mansion. She was never going to stop reaping the fruits of her parents kindness and she adored them so much for that.

"I feel very good actually" she assured him.

"Good then, I need to take you somewhere" he stretched out his right hand and this time, it was her choice to either take it or not.

"Take me somewhere? Where? My home? You know where I live?" She seemed very confused.

"No, not your home, somewhere I believe you are needed at" he maintained eye contact with her, hoping she would be able to sense his sincerity.

"Somewhere I am needed at?" Her confusion seemed to heighten.

"I just need you to trust me" he drew closer to her, still keep his hand stretched out and ready for her taking.

She knew he meant no harm to her. He rescued her from danger and stayed with her all the while she was unconscious so if he had any ill intentions, he would have executed them already. However, that was still not enough reason to trust him. But there was something about his eyes that made her heart believe that he would never mean her any harm or try to hurt her in any way. That he would always protect her and never leave her side so she decided to trust him. This one time first and if it is not worth it, she would find a way out, she always will.

"Ok then" she took his hand and without warning, he pulled her up, into his embrace and together they teleported straight to the mansion…
