By the time Jin and Haneul had washed the dirt off and made it to the kitchen, Seul had already done most of the work.
She was standing at the big pot on the stove, sleeves pushed up past her elbows, stirring something that smelled like garlic and ginger and sesame oil. Two long trays of rice were already steaming on the counter beside her. She didn't turn around when they came in.
"I heard," she said.
"Heard what?" Jin asked innocently.
"The whole forest shaking at five in the morning." She tapped the spoon against the edge of the pot. "Joon came in here swearing like someone had set his bed on fire."
"He fell out of it," Haneul offered helpfully.
"I know. Echo already told me. Twice." She finally glanced over her shoulder at them, eyes sweeping from Haneul's bruised cheek to the leaf Jin had missed in his hair. "Knives are on the board. Green onions need chopping. Eggs are in the basket. Don't burn anything."
