The wheel on the giant screen spun for a long time.
Names blurred past too fast to read, hundreds of them, flickering white against the black. Around the cavern, people pressed against the walls of their glass boxes and watched it turn. Nobody wanted to look away. Any one of those names could be theirs.
Jin stood with his arms crossed and his eyes on the screen. Areum had sat down on the floor of their box with her knees pulled up, and Do-yun was pacing in small tight circles, three steps one way and three steps back.
"I can't watch," Do-yun said, watching anyway.
The wheel started to slow. The names stretched out, becoming readable one at a time, then crawling past, then barely moving at all.
It stopped.
🔻 [Min Jae-wo]
A second wheel spun beneath it, faster, then slowed and settled.
🔻 [Cho Dong-hyuk]
Do-yun let out a long breath and leaned against the glass. "Not us."
"Not us," Areum agreed, then squinted up at the screen. "Min Jae-wo. Who's that?"
