Seul was still crouched beside him, frowning.
"No?" she said. "What do you mean, no?"
Jin blinked up at her. For a second, he couldn't think of anything to say. He could still taste copper in his mouth. He could still see the blue shirt and the lanyard.
"Sorry," he said. "I mean, I'm fine. I just hit my head."
"You hit your elbow."
"That too."
Seul sighed. "Go get some water. And eat something."
"Yeah," Jin said. "I will."
She stood up and walked away, and Jin lay there on the carpet a little longer, staring at the ceiling.
Okay, he thought. Okay.
One person. That was all it took. One person, and it was over, and he was back on the floor in a puddle of coffee. It didn't matter that he'd saved Seul. It didn't matter that he'd saved the man by the window. The second anyone died, all of it was gone.
