An inch longer, an inch stronger—the spear reigns as king among all weapons, whether long spear or handgun. But setting aside firearms, let's speak only of the long spear.
Single blade against spear means nine deaths out of ten, and the survivor likely won't fare well either. For a dagger to penetrate spear range is pure fantasy.
However, this only applies when the spear-wielder maintains proper distance from his opponent. Once that advantageous range is lost and a dagger closes in—entering the dagger's domain—even the king of weapons must meet its doom.
"Clang!"
Metal struck stone with ringing force. Under Glenn's crushing stomp, the spear's razor point slammed violently into the ground. The dark wizard couldn't recover his momentum, and with downward pressure on the spear's rear, his body tilted diagonally earthward.
Martial artists typically maintain stable lower stances, yet in life-and-death combat, often a single opening determines victory or defeat—especially when facing Glenn, once the most elite killing machine imaginable.
Heart thrust, throat slash, eye socket puncture—then a vicious twist to scramble brains. Glenn withdrew fluidly and lunged toward the next dark wizard daring to approach Hermione from his sector.
"Bang!"
Hermione gripped the USP with unwavering steadiness, pulling the trigger with ruthless determination again and again, systematically eliminating dark wizards advancing from her front.
Though Hermione maintained perfect accuracy against every approaching enemy, the USP's stopping power fell considerably short of Glenn's M500 revolver. This disparity manifested most clearly in how the USP's specialized rounds couldn't penetrate the enchanted weapons the dark wizards brandished defensively.
After one experimental shot deflected off a dark wizard's broadsword, the remaining enemies began consciously swinging their weapons to intercept potential shot lines targeting vital areas. Hermione adapted tactically, redirecting her aim toward joint targets.
Fortunately, Hermione carried four magazines—sixty 9mm rounds total. Sufficient ammunition for sustained engagement.
"Bang bang! Bang bang!"
Suppressing all sympathy for her own species to absolute minimum, maintaining complete emotional control, Hermione's mind achieved crystalline focus. Under her supreme muscle discipline and laser-sharp concentration, high-velocity bullets drilled through dark wizards' kneecaps. They shrieked in agony.
Suddenly Hermione rolled groundward, then without looking snapped off a shot toward a specific vector. Cold steel severed a section of her raised brown hair as a pitch-black throwing blade—tip gleaming with sinister luminescence—embedded itself into rocky flooring, sinking to the hilt.
Poisoned projectiles—such methods weren't uncommon among dark wizards. Even with magical defenses, unpredictable hidden weapon strikes could easily claim lives.
The prerequisite: targets must drop their guard. Hermione clearly wasn't someone who'd grow careless during mortal combat.
Her peripheral vision swept where she'd just fired—empty space.
Hermione knew she'd missed completely. In such desperate circumstances, firing to startle and disrupt the opponent's next action represented Hermione's tactical limit. Only Glenn might have blown that assassin's head apart—the one lurking behind other dark wizards, perpetually ready for long-range elimination strikes.
"Glenn, watch out—projectiles!"
After rolling, Hermione immediately rose into kneeling shooting stance, drilling two rounds into a dark wizard's chest cavity—one heart shot, one lung shot. The young girl squeezed the trigger again, sending her magazine's final bullet into the stunned dark wizard's skull.
The Mozambique Drill proved eternally effective, just ammunition-intensive.
Magazine emptied, the USP's slide locked rearward. Hermione's right index finger withdrew, depressing the magazine release, then rapidly ejected the spent magazine while her left hand retrieved a fresh one from her robes, precisely inserting it into the USP and thumbing the slide release to return the weapon to battery.
Hermione resumed firing, systematically downing all dark wizards attempting approach.
Under suppressive fire from magically enhanced firearms, the body-strengthening techniques these dark wizards practiced proved paper-thin, completely penetrated by searing projectiles.
"BOOM!"
The meteor hammer carried tremendous kinetic force, thundering into the ground with explosive impact that raised shockwaves before swinging upward again. The dark wizard wielding this terrifyingly resonant weapon spun it in impenetrable defensive patterns while rapidly advancing on Glenn.
In this tactical situation, continuing with the dagger would prove inappropriate.
Glenn repeatedly attempted to close distance but found himself forced back. He retreated to a dark wizard's corpse, returned the dagger to his sleeve, and kicked up a long spear from the crimson pool.
As an assassin whose passion was weaponry, Glenn could wield any named implement—saber, spear, sword, halberd, axe, battle-axe, hook, fork, mace, staff, lance, club—as natural extensions of his limbs.
He wasn't restricted to daggers alone.
However, long spears carried inherent risks when confronting projectile weapons like meteor hammers.
Unfortunately for his opponent, what Glenn now wielded was a great spear.
Left foot forward, center of gravity slightly lowered, right hand gripping the great spear's terminus, Glenn leveled the weapon toward his adversary.
Waiting wasn't Glenn's style. He exploded forward, spear leading.
The meteor hammer—following its swinging momentum—shattered wind resistance, streaking directly toward Glenn's face. Glenn suddenly channeled force through both hands, twisting with devastating power. The spear point crossed trajectories with the meteor hammer, following its energy to slide toward lower left.
Parry.
The great spear's shaft intercepted the meteor hammer's linear path, deflecting it from original trajectory to swing toward Glenn's left flank. Glenn drove off his right foot, pivoted on his left, ascending from below as his entire muscular system began rotating leftward, the great spear further dragging the meteor hammer off course.
At this juncture, Glenn had turned his back to the dark wizard.
But this wasn't Glenn's action's terminus. Glenn's left hand glided forward along the spear shaft as his legs and torso continued leftward rotation.
The great spear's shaft disengaged from the grounded meteor hammer's chain, lifting diagonally upward and—following Glenn's body rotation—thrusting outward with lethal precision.
A returning horse spear strike, carrying unstoppable momentum, pierced completely through the dark wizard's cranium.
Spear shaft withdrew, massive body crashed earthward.
"Switch."
Without hesitation Glenn leaped backward with his spear, approaching Hermione while calling out. Hermione grasped Glenn's tactical intent, likewise retreating while maintaining fire, closing toward Glenn.
Before Hermione, the dark wizards had drawn perilously close.
Next instant, Glenn crouched into sliding advance while Hermione vaulted upward into sideways roll. The pair moved—one high, one low—backs pressed together, instantly exchanging positions.
Before his form fully arrived, the long spear had already struck. Glenn swept the weapon downward, toppling all approaching dark wizards in devastating arcs.
Stabilizing her stance, raising her weapon, Hermione squeezed the trigger, causing multiple distant targets to absorb hits.
Glenn handled close-quarters threats, Hermione eliminated distant opponents. On this life-and-death battlefield, both warriors remained quite busy indeed.
