"Whoa—"

Troy reined in his horse, his forest-green eyes warily watching the road ahead.

"Troy, why have we stopped?"

Luo Wei's clear, crisp voice came from inside the carriage.

Troy lowered his voice. "There are people ahead."

"Chris, open the curtain."

"Yes, Master."

The beautiful maidservant knelt at Luo Wei's feet, straightened up at the words, and drew aside the carriage curtain for her.

Luo Wei leaned sideways to look out the window and immediately saw over a dozen ragged herders standing on the glacial till beach.

They had traveled faster than she had anticipated. Northerners' bodies were indeed strong.

"Troy, go ask who they are and why they are blocking the way."

Luo Wei withdrew her gaze and spoke in a calm tone.

"Alright."

Troy nudged his horse's flanks and rode toward the herders.

Luo Wei watched from a distance. Seeing a Knight approach, all the herders knelt on the ground.

She didn't know what Troy said, but a few minutes later, a tall, sturdy woman stood up from the crowd.

It was too far for Luo Wei to see the woman's face clearly, but she had a faint guess that it was probably Norma, the one who dared to speak with the demon last night.

Troy glanced back at the carriage, then said a few more words to the woman before turning his horse around and riding back.

"Miss, there is a commoner among them who wishes to see you. She says you are her benefactor and she wants to ask you something."

"Oh?" Luo Wei feigned surprise. "Ask what?"

Troy replied, "I don't know. She insists on speaking only when she sees you."

"Alas, they do look quite pitiful. Let's go meet them then," Luo Wei instructed. "Yves, drive the carriage."

"Yes, Master!" Yves cracked the whip, driving the carriage toward the group of commoners.

Troy rode ahead to clear the way, the carriage traveled in the middle, and Gale and Beryl followed behind the carriage. The entire party arrived before the herders.

The ornate carriage slowly came to a halt. The door opened, and a pretty young girl jumped down.

The herders knelt on the ground, cautiously raising their heads, their gazes curious as they looked at the girl.

The girl wore a woven wool dress dyed with woad, with a layer of soft, precious linen lining beneath the thick wool skirt.

Was she the noble lady the Knight was protecting?

The herders were thinking this when they saw the girl, after alighting, turn back, take a small stool from the carriage, place it before the door, bend down, and extend a hand inside the carriage in a supportive gesture.

Under the sunlight, a slender, jade-like hand rested on the girl's palm. The lustrous skin was so white it seemed to glow, without a single blemish to be seen.

Next came an exquisitely crafted kid-leather boot, encasing a slender yet not frail ankle, which lightly landed on the small stool.

A vibrant yet not gaudy violet-colored long skirt covered the kid-leather boot. The lace on the hem was like daisy flowers blooming on a green meadow in spring. Plump pearls and sparkling diamonds adorned the smooth, flowing fabric of the skirt, like dewdrops refracting morning light, or the most brilliant starry sky at night.

Following the skirt upward was a shawl, light as a cloud and radiant as sunset clouds.

Further up was a head of thick, raven-black hair.

The slightly curly long hair cascaded down the girl's straight shoulders and back. A few strands playfully slipped over her shoulders to the front, setting off her neck skin, which was as white as moonlight.

The herders, having seen only the girl's neck, bowed their heads in trepidation.

They dared not look up at the noble lady's face; that would be an offense to her.

They also didn't need to see the noble lady's face. Such magnificent attire must be setting off an extraordinarily beautiful and lovely countenance. Only an angelic, peerless beauty would not appear dimmed by such a resplendent gown.

The noble young lady was helped down from the carriage by her maidservant. Holding her skirt, she walked gracefully forward, stopping about three meters away from them. Her voice was as clear as a flowing spring: "Who among you wishes to see me?"

"Me, it's me, honored lady." Norma timidly raised her head and saw a face as dazzling as a flower.

She was stunned. The demon lord hadn't said her benefactor would be this beautiful.

"What is your name?" the noble lady asked.

"R-replying, m-miss, my name is Norma," Norma stammered in reply.

"Well then, Norma, what do you wish to know?"

Norma opened her mouth, but seeing the Knight and maidservant behind her, hesitated again.

Luo Wei raised her hand. "Troy, Chris, step back."

Troy and Chris retreated several steps but still flanked her protectively not far behind.

Norma still felt somewhat uneasy. Suppressing her fear, she bent at the waist and asked, "Honored lady, do you know where there is free land to the east?"

Luo Wei showed a surprised expression. "Free land?"

"Y-yes." Norma looked at her hopefully.

"There is such a place," Luo Wei said with a smile. "But I've heard it's demon territory, on the sea beyond the Nagises Bay. Perhaps you've also heard its name."

Norma's face changed slightly. "Could it be... could it be the Demon Sea?"

"Correct," Luo Wei nodded. "An interesting piece of news circulated a while ago. Several mercenaries broke into the Demon Sea and successfully landed on Demon Island."

"It's said they conquered the undead on the island and even established a free city-state there, building houses and paving roads."

Norma's eyes widened slightly. "Honored lady, is this true?"

"Whether it's true or false, I'm not sure," Luo Wei answered her gently and patiently. "After all, I haven't been to Demon Island."

"But I heard from my subordinates that they received a supply order from Demon Island. It seems those people intend to settle there long-term."

"They also apparently carved a stone tablet, saying they would shelter homeless women and wandering children, take in the pitiful and the heretical god's believers."

"What a bold group of people~" Luo Wei sighed.

Norma, however, was extremely excited. What the demon lord said was true. There really was free land to the east.

Demon Island might very well be the demon lord's dwelling!

She wanted to go to Demon Island!

Seeing her excited look, Luo Wei seemed puzzled. "Norma, do you also wish to go to Demon Island?"

Norma hurriedly lowered her head. "No, not at all, not at all, honored lady. I was just asking casually. Sorry to have disturbed you."

"Don't be afraid, Norma," Luo Wei covered her lips with a light laugh. "I'm also very curious about that place. If you truly wish to go, I can offer you some assistance."

"As long as you don't forget to write me a letter after you go, telling me what it's like there and whether there really are demons on the island."

"Please, Norma, I'm so curious about the mysterious legends there."

The girl's crisp voice carried a hint of sweetness, as if she was coaxing her. Norma, who had just lost two children, felt her heart soften and suddenly her nose tingled.

If the child she bore at fifteen hadn't died young, they would probably be about the same age as this noble lady before her.

Norma had given birth to five children in total after marriage, only two survived, and now not a single one remained.

"Thank you, Miss," she wiped her moist eyes. "I will definitely write to you."

Luo Wei revealed a brilliant smile. "Then it's settled."

"Chris," she called her maidservant over. "Give this lady a bag of coins and some bread."

"Yes, Master."

Chris obediently returned to the carriage to fetch the coins and bread.

Luo Wei then looked at Norma. "Norma, I have a house in Sisdar Town. You can find the owner of the McCauley Malt Tavern and ask him to take you to my house to rest."

"You can also speak to him when you wish to go to Demon Island, and he will make arrangements for you."

Norma bowed, moved. "Thank you, kind lady."

"You're welcome," Luo Wei replied with a smile.

Just then, Chris returned with a bag of silver coins and a bag of bread sticks. "Master?"

"Give them to this lady."

Norma received the kind noble lady's aid, tears of gratitude welling up in her eyes.

Such a precious gift, she had no way to repay it. She could only pray for her in her heart, hoping heaven would bless this kind and beautiful lady.
