On the top floor of Silph Co. Building, Eddie and Giovanni moved simultaneously!
Giovanni lunged forward as if to grab the Poké Ball lying on the floor, but Eddie had other plans.
Without hesitation, Eddie threw a fighting-style punch into the air!
Giovanni's eyes widened in shock as a light blue fist of pure aura materialized out of nowhere and shot toward him.
"Did you really think I'd fall for that? I know Aura Sphere!" Eddie called out with a sneer.
The moment he released the Aura Sphere, Eddie extended his other hand and activated his psychic powers. All of his Poké Balls on the ground suddenly lifted into the air and flew back to him. But Eddie didn't stop there—with calculated malice, he used his psychic abilities to hurl Giovanni's Poké Balls straight out the window.
"Eddie! I've never met anyone as underhanded as you!" Giovanni roared after narrowly dodging the Aura Sphere. Watching his Poké Balls being flung out the window by Eddie's psychic powers, his face twisted with fury as he denounced Eddie's shameless tactics.
"Weren't you the one who just said it?" Eddie shot back with a cold smile. "I'm the type who'll do whatever it takes to win. Killing you would be easy! What's wrong with using these methods?"
For once, Eddie allowed a vicious grin to spread across his face as he released his Charizard, ready to bring this battle to a decisive end.
However, at that very moment, the ground—or rather, the floor beneath them—began to shake violently!
Seeing the sudden tremor and catching the smirk on Giovanni's face, a sense of dread washed over Eddie.
"Charizard! Get airborne, now!"
Eddie made a split-second decision, leaping onto Charizard's back just as the dragon Pokémon took flight.
BOOM!
Eddie's reaction came not a moment too soon. The instant Charizard lifted off, the floor where Eddie had been standing exploded upward and collapsed inward.
At the same time, a massive Pokémon emerged onto the battlefield.
Name: Rhyperior
Type: Ground/Rock
Ability: Lightning Rod
Level: 85 (Champion-level Pokémon)
"You underhanded scoundrel! Have you no shame? You actually had a Pokémon hiding underground this whole time!" Eddie shouted from atop his Charizard, hurling accusations at Giovanni.
Eddie had thought his own tactics were devious enough, but Giovanni had proven to be even more cunning by positioning a Pokémon underground beforehand.
"Hahaha! This is what they call strategy in battle, Eddie. Weren't you just playing dirty yourself?" Giovanni laughed, though his hands were already moving swiftly. He quickly pulled another Poké Ball from inside his suit jacket, preparing to release another Pokémon to continue the fight.
"Lucky for me, the Poké Balls I left on the ground were empty decoys. Otherwise, you would've ended me right there."
If Eddie hadn't been so cautious and reacted so quickly, Rhyperior would have crushed him on the spot. But that was fine—the battle had only just begun.
With that thought, Giovanni prepared to release his second Pokémon to target Charizard in the air.
However...
"Aggron! Use Iron Defense!"
Giovanni's body went rigid. He whipped around and threw his Poké Ball with desperate speed.
CRASH!
A tremendous impact echoed through the office. Aggron, renowned throughout the Pokémon world as one of the species with the highest defensive capabilities, was struck by Mewtwo's psychic-powered spoon and staggered backward, dazed. The steel giant nearly trampled Giovanni himself as it stumbled.
"Eddie! I take it back—I've never encountered anyone as shameless as you in my entire life!"
Within the span of just a few minutes, Giovanni had nearly been defeated twice. In all his years, he had never experienced anything like this.
If his reflexes had been even a fraction slower, or if the Poké Ball he'd grabbed hadn't contained Aggron with its incredible defensive power, Mewtwo would have finished him off.
"Wait a minute... You clearly placed the Master Ball on the ground earlier. How did Mewtwo—"
Giovanni's eyes widened in realization.
"Damn it! The ball you threw just now—that was the Master Ball I gave you, wasn't it?!"
It was only now that Giovanni understood he'd played right into Eddie's hands. He never should have given Eddie that Master Ball in the first place.
He hadn't anticipated that Eddie would use the Master Ball he'd just received as nothing more than a prop for misdirection. All Master Balls looked identical, and there was no way for Giovanni to tell whether the one on the ground actually contained Mewtwo or not.
Of course, Giovanni had no idea that Eddie already possessed another Master Ball, which meant giving him one had been a mistake from the start.
"Hmph! When I'm fighting a crafty old fox like you, I need to have contingency plans in place, or I'd be the one getting killed!" Eddie retorted.
By now, Eddie had already taken flight on Charizard and released his Garchomp as well.
"This space is too cramped. Let's take this fight somewhere more suitable," Eddie announced, as though he genuinely believed the chairman's office atop Silph Co. was too confined for their battle.
Then...
"Garchomp! Charizard! Mewtwo! Use Hyper Beam!"
Not a second after suggesting they change venues, Eddie commanded his Pokémon to attack!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Three devastating beams of destructive energy erupted from the mouths of Eddie's three Pokémon, striking the chairman's office and obliterating everything in their path.
CRASH!
After the beams dissipated, the entire top floor of Silph Co. had been blown apart, leaving a gaping hole. The building itself had effectively become shorter.
"Tch. Did he use Dig again?"
Eddie surveyed the ruined top floor of Silph Co., noting the massive hole that clearly showed the escape route Giovanni had taken using the move Dig.
"Now that we're outside Silph Co., the battlefield has expanded to all of Saffron City. I need to be even more careful from here on out."
Eddie had exhausted most of his underhanded tricks. From this point forward, it would have to be a direct confrontation.
At the same time, the cooldown period for his Power of Viridian had expired. Eddie quickly channeled it into his Pokémon, temporarily boosting their strength to Champion level once more.
"I'd advise you not to stay airborne. Get down to the ground quickly, or you're going to get taken out by that terrifying Pokémon."
At that moment, a familiar female voice echoed in Eddie's mind, urging him to land immediately.
"Sabrina?!"
Eddie recognized the voice instantly. Even while Sabrina was engaged in battle with Ash and the others, she was somehow paying attention to his fight as well. She'd even used her psychic abilities to warn him not to remain in the air!
Bzzzzzz... Bzzzzzz...
Before Eddie could process this information, he heard the sound of rapidly beating wings. These weren't the wings of a bird Pokémon, but rather the distinctive buzz of an insect's wings.
Then Eddie spotted it—a Pokémon radiating an absolutely overwhelming aura, charging toward him at an incomprehensible speed.
"A Beedrill?! That Giovanni... He's already bringing out his ace this early in the fight?!"
