Leafeon is a Grass-type Pokémon, and when using Grass-type moves, the power is naturally increased.

Moreover, Eddie's Eevee is a bit special. After other Eevee evolve, their Abilities naturally change to match their new form. But Eddie's Eevee, because it can evolve and devolve at will, has always retained its original Ability: Adaptability.

Adaptability: The effect of Same-Type Attack Bonus (STAB) is increased from the original 50% to 100% additional attack power.

So when Leafeon uses Solar Beam, the power is doubled!

As for Ninetales, although it can use Solar Beam, it's a Fire-type Pokémon, so it doesn't receive any bonus when using Grass-type moves!

Therefore, in this Solar Beam clash, even though Leafeon fired its attack after Ninetales, it still completely overwhelmed Ninetales' Solar Beam and struck the Fire-type Pokémon perfectly.

"Ouch!" Ninetales cried out in pain and took several steps backward.

Although it was a Fire-type Pokémon with resistance to Grass-type moves, the power of Solar Beam was still quite strong. Since this move was fired by Leafeon with its boosted power, Ninetales still suffered some moderate injuries.

However, if it weren't for the beam clash just now, which had canceled out much of Leafeon's attack power, it wouldn't have gotten off with just moderate injuries.

"Wait, it can evolve into Leafeon!? I thought it could only evolve into three forms!" Blaine exclaimed in shock.

He'd thought Eddie would have Eevee evolve into Flareon and then use Fire-type moves to counter Solar Beam. In that situation, they might have ended up in a stalemate, and then Blaine could have taken advantage and continued the offensive.

But this Eevee could actually evolve into Leafeon, which completely disrupted his subsequent tactics.

"For some reason, it's now been completely cured, and not only that—it can now evolve into all the forms that Eevee can currently evolve into," Eddie explained with a smile.

There was no need to mention that his Power of Viridian could cure such conditions. Blaine wouldn't ask about these things anyway.

"Wait, you're saying this Eevee can evolve into eight different forms at will?" Blaine asked incredulously.

"It seems that, apart from Normal-type Pokémon, there are very few Pokémon that can counter it effectively."

Upon hearing this, Blaine did exactly as Eddie expected—he didn't ask any further questions, but instead lamented that there really was no Pokémon that could easily restrain this Eevee.

"Hehe! Blaine, the battle has just begun. Stop sighing!" Eddie laughed.

"It's my turn to attack now! Eevee! Transform into Vaporeon and use Water Pulse!"

Seeing that Blaine was just standing there sighing, Eddie immediately commanded Eevee to launch an attack.

"Vui!" Eevee called out.

Leafeon instantly transformed back into Vaporeon and launched Water Pulse directly at Ninetales.

This move had moderate power but covered a larger area. Combined with Eevee's own Ability, if it hit Ninetales, the damage would still be considerable.

"Ninetales! Use Extrasensory to deflect the attack!" Blaine commanded.

"Ouch!" Ninetales' eyes glowed slightly as it used Psychic-type energy to directly disperse the incoming Water Pulse.

However, just as it had scattered the attack, both Blaine and Ninetales realized that Eevee had already rushed forward and was nearly upon them.

"Did it use Agility? But it won't be that easy to get close to Ninetales!" Blaine shouted.

"Ninetales, use Confuse Ray!"

Blaine didn't know what Eddie was planning, but in battle, it was always wise to prevent the opponent from doing what they wanted to do.

Therefore, Blaine directly ordered Ninetales to stop Eevee from approaching, and using Confuse Ray to confuse the opponent was undoubtedly a good choice!

But Blaine seemed to have forgotten one thing—or rather, he hadn't adapted to it yet.

The Eevee before them could evolve and devolve at will.

Having Ninetales use the Ghost-type move Confuse Ray was normally the correct play, but it was far too naive against this particular Eevee.

Eevee didn't even need Eddie's instructions. It directly reverted to its original form—Normal-type Eevee. Relying on the type immunity that Normal has against Ghost-type moves, it completely ignored Ninetales' Confuse Ray and continued rushing forward.

"Blaine! You've been working as a researcher for so long that your instincts as a Trainer have weakened considerably. But no matter what, I won't hold back!" Eddie called out.

"Eevee! Use Double-Edge! Then follow up with Hydro Pump!"

"Vui!!" Eevee cried out determinedly.

Eevee had already reached Ninetales and was charging at it with all its might.

Because Ninetales had just used Confuse Ray, it had no time to react and was easily struck by Eevee's attack.

As Ninetales screamed in pain, it was knocked into the air.

But Eevee's assault wasn't over yet. After hitting Ninetales, it transformed into Vaporeon the very next moment and fired a Hydro Pump at the airborne Ninetales!

Ninetales was still in the process of being knocked away, so it had no time to react and was easily hit by the powerful Hydro Pump—a super-effective attack.

Ninetales, having been hit by Solar Beam, Double-Edge, and Hydro Pump in succession, fell to the ground unconscious.

After all, it had low HP and Defense stats, making it quite fragile. Under the assault of Eevee, whose strength wasn't much different from its own, it fell quickly after being hit multiple times by super-effective attacks.

"Ding! Dragonair gained 90 experience points! Level +1, reaching level 61!"

"Ding! Dragonair gained experience points! Level +1, reaching level 61!"

"Even defeating a level 64 Ninetales, only the level 60 Pokémon can level up? Although I expected this, it's still a bit disappointing to see it in reality," Eddie thought to himself.

He'd anticipated long ago that even with the experience bonus, it wouldn't be easy to raise his Pokémon's levels at this stage. To defeat a level 64 Ninetales, only two of his level 60 Pokémon had leveled up.

"Well, according to my calculations, after this Gym battle, my main team should be able to reach level 65. That should be sufficient," Eddie mused.

That was Eddie's goal—after defeating Blaine, he wanted to raise his Pokémon's strength to level 65. That should be enough.

At the very least, without using the Power of Viridian, he should be able to defeat the three Team Rocket Executives.

That was sufficient, at least for now.
