Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Villains vs. Heroes

Shirley returned to her hotel room, gathered her detective equipment, and tied her hair back into a ponytail. She proceeded to the scene where Superman had disposed of the roller coaster, retrieved her magnifying glass from her backpack, and began examining the debris. Upon inspecting one of the fragments, she noted, "That's odd; this doesn't smell like dragon's breath, it smells like..." Batman tossed a Batrope around Shirley and hoisted her swiftly up to the rooftop during her investigation. There, she encountered Batman, who questioned her presence at the crime scene. Shirley introduced herself as Shirley Hudson, a detective working on the case. Batman acknowledged her role but initially suggested she should step back from the investigation. Shirley refused to leave until she solved the mystery, so Batman joined forces with her. Shortly thereafter, Superman arrived on the rooftop and offered his assistance. Shirley nodded and said, "With two detectives and a superhero working together, we will catch the culprit."

Batman, Superman, and Shirley joined hands to form a team. That night, while Shirley was thinking the case through, she noticed a magic store on fire and saw someone with giant hands stealing magical items. She and Batman investigated the scene after the owner put out the fire; using her magnifying glass, Shirley found a magician's hat and wand were missing, while Batman saw a missing deck of cards. Shirley suggested that a dragon could be behind the thefts, pointing out the fitting traits: fire-breathing, tall stature, and sharp claws.

After Shirley and Batman left the store, Kyle fired a laser at Batman, and Brad swiped his utility belt. While Batman was incapacitated, Shirley encountered all eight of her old enemies. Panicked, she tried to escape, but Scarlet performed a backflip and blocked her path, saying, "Going somewhere?" Quick-thinking, Shirley pulled a scooter from her backpack and sped around the group, but Scott hurled a dart that burst one of her tires. As Shirley tumbled off, she dashed away screaming while the villains gave chase. Connor taunted, "Give up, Shirley; it's eight against one." Glancing skyward as she ran, Shirley spotted Superman soaring above. She replied, "Correction, it's eight against two." Sherry asked, "What do you mean?" Raising her arms, Shirley was swept into the air by Superman, who had swooped down and caught her wrists. Watching in frustration, Mr. Fletch exclaimed, "No fair."

Superman placed Shirley on a tennis court, but the villains soon discovered their hiding spot. Kyle attempted to use a tennis ball machine against them, yet Shirley and Superman dodged, and Kyle accidentally hit Mr. Fletch instead. Superman launched a ball with a racket, causing the machine to explode and knocking out Kyle. Shirley and Superman quickly escaped to encounter Brad, who attacked them with a hockey stick and pucks. As Brad aimed at Shirley, she ducked, resulting in Scarlet getting struck in the knee. Scarlet cried out and hopped on one leg before springing toward Brad, kicking him into a tree to pay him back for hurting her. The impact caused Brad to drop Batman's utility belt, which Shirley promptly picked up, saying, "I hope that takes care of them." Sherry was chasing Shirley and Superman, attempting to hit them with her laser. While Shirley darted around Sherry on foot, Superman soared overhead, and Sherry spun, firing the laser in all directions to catch Shirley. When Superman eventually left, Sherry managed to corner Shirley and pointed her laser at her. "This is where it ends. Say 'goodbye,' loser," Sherry declared. Calmly, Shirley replied, "Goodbye, Loser." At that moment, Sherry noticed she had accidentally sliced through the ground beneath her with the laser, causing the earth to give way under her feet. She tumbled into the hole, screaming as she fell underground.

Shirley fled as Scott activated his giant robot, whose hands became guns at the press of a button. The robot repeatedly attempted to shoot at Shirley, but Superman intervened by using his heat vision to destroy the robot's motherboard. The motherboard exploded, killing the robot, and the blast also struck Scott. Superman quickly swooped down and rescued Shirley from the explosion. Afterwards, Shirley remarked, "I hope that's the end of them." Superman flew them both down, and they thought they were safe. Then they looked ahead and saw Connor with swords and Rex with nunchucks. Shirley ran away, and Connor threw one of his swords at her. Shirley dropped to the ground, and the blade landed right by her arm. Superman blasted their weapons with his heat vision, destroying them. Connor said, "You'll pay for that." Shirley propelled an ice cream cart toward Connor; upon impact, Connor was driven down a hill at considerable speed and ultimately collided with Rex. Both individuals subsequently crashed into a tree. Shirley remarked that all the villains were down for the count. She and Superman immediately began to retreat as several adversaries regained their footing and pursued them. Spotting how close their pursuers were, Shirley remarked, "Those creeps just don't quit." Batman arrived in his Batmobile, allowing Shirley and Superman to enter. Shirley returned Batman's utility belt, which he put back on. Batman then activated a control in the Batmobile, enabling the vehicle to traverse the city at high speed. Brad, observing this, expressed surprise at their capabilities.

Inside the Batmobile, Shirley puzzled over the mystery. "Why would someone steal magical items if they've already got a dragon?" she wondered aloud. At a streetlight, Batman brought the Batmobile to a halt. Peering out the window, Shirley spotted a person dressed as a magician—complete with hat, cape, and magic wand—but even with her binoculars, she couldn't make out their face. She called, "Batman, Superman." Both heroes responded together, "What?" Pointing out the window, Shirley said, "The culprit is right there."

Without hesitation, Shirley stepped outside and confronted the stranger. "Freeze! Shirley Hudson, worldwide girl detective," she declared. The mysterious figure dashed into an alley and scurried up a ladder onto a rooftop. Shirley gave chase, while Superman soared overhead and Batman followed using his Batrope.

Superman reached the roof first and blocked the escape. "There's nowhere left to run," he said. Unfazed, the magician produced a magic wand from thin air. As Shirley arrived at the top, she saw Superman squaring off against the thief. Suddenly, the villain blasted Superman with the wand, transforming him into a red, yellow, and blue handkerchief, which he promptly stuffed into his hat. With a smug remark about the "super" handkerchief, the magician vanished before Shirley could react. When Batman finally joined them on the roof, he found Shirley safe but Superman missing. "Where's Superman?" he asked. "The magician turned him into a handkerchief," Shirley explained. Batman replied, "Then we need to rescue him."
