Five and a half months had passed since Viana told me she was pregnant. Just fifteen days remained until she would give birth—fifteen days until I would meet the tiny life growing inside her, the sister I never knew I wanted.
I'd finished my morning chores in my human-sized form—sweeping the house until every corner was spotless, restocking the herb shelves with fresh bundles of lavender and rosemary and chamomile. The familiar scents clung to my clothes, comforting in their normalcy. When everything was in order, I flew toward the sacred elf forest near the village.
