Priscilla's POV
I was waiting outside with my luggage when a red convertible pulled up in front of the hotel. My heart sank a little as I saw Daniel and David, both wearing the same clothes and sunglasses. I sighed. Why do they do this?
"Hi," I said softly, forcing a smile and waving wearily.
They laughed, and the passenger door swung open. One of them ran over, scooped me up, and twirled me around.
"Pretty!"
I laughed, breathless. "Quickie!"
He dropped me, grinning. "Hey, pretty lady."
"Hey, quickie guy. How are you doing?"
His smile and pouted. "Sad that you're leaving."
I laughed and hugged him tightly. "I'm sad too."
"Don't worry," he said tenderly. "I'll keep in contact with you."
I smiled weakly, trying to hide the ache in my chest, and we walked toward the car. Daniel sat inside, calm and composed as ever.
"Hey, Priscilla," he greeted quietly.
"Hey," I replied softly and climbed into the car as David loaded my bags into the boot.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice careful.
"Yeah," I replied, but my eyes were drawn to Daniel. Why wasn't he happier to see me? I had taken extra care with my appearance today, thinking of him, and his reaction was… plain. My chest tightened, and I blinked back tears, focusing on David as he spoke about how much he'd miss me.
The closer we got to the airport, the harder it became to hold back my tears. By the time we arrived, hot tears rolled down my cheeks but I wiped them away. I wasn't a baby.
We stepped out of the car and walked into the airport. Daniel held my hand tightly while David carried my luggage.
I turned to Daniel, pulling him into a hug. "Thank you for everything. I will miss you."
He held onto me, pressing me close for a heartbeat longer than necessary. "I will miss you too," he said quietly, finally releasing me.
We held hands, neither of us willing to let go, staring into each other's eyes.
"Will you contact me, Daniel?" I asked, voice trembling. The tears about to fall.
He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he gently let go of my hands and stepped back, giving a small smile and nod toward David.
I sniffled, holding back my tears, and walked to David, who hugged me tightly. "Hey, pretty. We promise you that when we visit Nigeria again, we'll come see you."
I nodded, heart aching. The announcement for my plane echoed through the terminal. I took my luggage and said goodbye to David, who smiled and waved.
Then, I turned toward Daniel. He was walking back toward the car. My chest felt hollow, like I was leaving a piece of my heart behind. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I forced myself to walk to the counter and check in, every step heavy with the weight of leaving him behind.
DAVID'S POV – Discovering Daniel's feelings for Priscilla
As Priscilla walked away, disappearing into the crowd, I trailed behind, heading back to the car. That's when I saw him, Daniel leaning against the car, sunglasses on, but his posture tense, shoulders slightly slumped. There was a thoughtfulness in his stance, a quiet loneliness I hadn't noticed before.
I stayed a moment back, watching him. Why hadn't I realized before that something… maybe everything… could be building between him and Priscilla? The thought tugged at my chest, sharp and confusing.
He turned as I approached. "You ready?" he asked, voice calm, casual.
I nodded, climbing into the car beside him. As he started the engine and drove toward the apartment, I watched him in the rearview mirror. Outwardly, he looked collected, calm, in control. But I knew him. I knew that every line of his jaw, every slight tightening of his grip on the wheel, betrayed the storm inside.
I forced a sigh, trying to sound light. "I miss Pretty already."
Daniel said nothing, but I saw it his hands tightened on the steering wheel, knuckles white, his jaw flexing as he swallowed. My heart sank.
Why did he let her go? When I could see it so clearly in his eyes… he had feelings for her. Deep ones. And yet he held back, swallowed them down, put on that mask of calm.
I exhaled, real this time, letting the weight of it settle between us. For the first time, I realized there were things I didn't fully understand about my twin. And yet, watching him like this, my chest tightened in ways I couldn't ignore.
DANIEL'S POV – Lost without her
Three days. Only three days since she left, and yet it feels like months have passed. The apartment is quiet, too quiet, and no matter how much I bury myself in work, her absence is everywhere. The scent of her perfume lingers faintly in the car. My phone is still in my hand at night, though I never find the courage to call.
I drive aimlessly until I find myself at the waterfall again the place where time had slowed, where her laughter had filled the air, where we almost kissed. Almost. That single word haunts me.
I stand at the edge, staring at the water tumbling down with its endless rhythm, and I see her, Priscilla everywhere. The way her eyes lit up when the spray touched her face. The way her hand had fit so naturally into mine. And that moment, her parted lips, her eyes fluttering closed just before I pulled away.
I close my eyes now, almost cursing myself. Why didn't I kiss her? Why did I let fear, reason, and logic hold me back when my entire being screamed to close the distance?
My chest feels heavy, aching with something I can no longer deny. It isn't simple attraction. It's her Priscilla herself. The thought of her smile, her voice, her warmth it consumes me.
I run a hand through my hair and sink down onto the rocks, elbows on my knees. For the first time in years, I feel powerless. I'm Daniel, the one who keeps it all together, who never lets emotions rule him. And yet here I am, undone by a woman who feels like the other half of me.
I whisper her name to the roar of the falls, knowing it won't answer back.
"Priscilla…"
The sound is swallowed by the water, but the ache remains, deeper than ever.
At Night…
That night, I couldn't sleep. No matter how many times I shifted in bed, Priscilla's face stayed with me. Her laughter echoed in my ears, her eyes haunted me, her absence left a hollow space inside me that nothing could fill.
I sat up, running a hand over my face. Lord, what's happening to me?
I got out of bed and dropped to my knees, the way I always did when my heart felt too heavy. Folding my hands, I bowed my head.
"Father… You know my heart better than I do. I don't understand what's happening, but I can't stop thinking about her. About Priscilla. Every time I try to push it aside, she comes back to me. Every prayer, every quiet moment, it's her face I see. Lord, is this You? Are You trying to tell me something… or is it just me?"
I exhaled slowly, struggling to find the words. "God, if this is Your will, make it clear. Because right now, all I feel is confusion. I… I don't want to hurt David. I see how close he is to her, how much he enjoys her presence. What if he feels the same way about her? What if pursuing this will break us apart?"
The room was silent except for the sound of my own heartbeat. Yet in that stillness, I felt it again, that quiet, unmistakable nudge of the Spirit. The one I'd learned not to ignore. A peace, gentle but firm, pressing the same truth I'd been trying to run from: Priscilla.
Her name settled in my spirit, not as a distraction, but as a confirmation. I swallowed hard, shaking my head. "But, Lord… why her? Why now? Why when David—" My voice broke. "Why would You put this in my heart if it will cause pain?"
No answer came, not in words. Just that same quiet stirring, that deep knowing I couldn't shake.
I lowered my head, eyes stinging. "If this is really from You, then give me strength. Give me wisdom. Because right now, God, I don't know what to do. I don't want to lose my brother. But I don't want to lose her either."
The prayer lingered in the air, raw and unfinished. I stayed on my knees until exhaustion pulled me down. But even as sleep slowly claimed me, the truth wouldn't let go.
No matter how much I fought it, the Spirit kept pointing me back to her.
To Priscilla.
