Chapter 25 - Stumbling & Sleeping

The last thing that Miyako saw when she was left was Yasuo using one of the men's stomachs as a punching bag while Tadashi was behind him, watching, laughing, eating popcorn, and recording everything on his phone.

It was so violent.

It was so bloody.

And yet, she didn't feel revolted by it because those same men weren't good people. They had brought her and other girls here, intending to trick them into giving up their bodies.

If anything, she was grateful that Yasuo was punishing them for their crimes and felt regretful that she had thrown up on his shirt.

As she walked out of the karaoke bar, she thought about what Tadashi told her and shook her head.

Yasuo was busying teaching all the men a lesson. He probably didn't even get a proper look at her face, nor did he care about who she was.

The Sun was still out when she stepped onto the street.

A lot of the girls who had left before her were still hanging out around the front. Some were waiting for their taxis, while a few were patiently waiting for Yasuo to step out.

The big fish of the city had returned home and they wouldn't know when he would be back again.

If they missed their chance now, they would all regret it for the rest of their lives.

Miyako's brain wasn't the smartest, especially with all the alcohol that was hindering her thought process, but she could tell what was going on with those ladies.

'What a bunch of idiots? Is giving up their dignity worth it? Just because he's rich or something?'

As Miyako began walking towards a nearby bus station, stumbling a few times on the way there as the ground swayed left and right, she stood with her back against the glass, kicking her feet for a bit.

Then, after much consideration, she finally pulled out her phone.

She knew his name.

But she had never done research before on who he exactly was. She just knew what she heard, and that was it.

She never thought she was going to meet him or ever get involved with anything that wasn't her studies or her part-time jobs.

"Otsuka Yasuo…"

To her surprise, there wasn't a lot about him. A few social media accounts popped up with a few tens of thousands of followers but other than that, nothing much really.

So she decided to search up his father's name instead.

Thankfully, one of the news articles from over ten years ago was actually about the father, with small mentions of the heir, Yasuo, so it didn't take long for her to get the name.

"Otsuka Koji."

Immediately, she was met with hundreds of articles talking about him.

One of the ones that was on the very first page was about his net worth and the value of his company.

"...How many zeros is that?" she gulped.

It was a number she didn't even know was possible.

Her eyes slowly looked towards the direction of the karaoke bar.

"Lucky him. He was born with a diamond spoon in his mouth," she chuckled before letting out a drunk burp.

Her head was starting to sting. It wasn't a sharp pain yet, but it felt like someone was slowly pressing their thumbs into her skull.

'Why do people drink alcohol?! This feels terrible!'

The sounds of the streets felt louder than they should have been, which made her feel like she was losing her mind.

Even the light from passing cars made her squint; they looked too bright even though it was still technically daytime.

When the bus finally arrived, she almost missed it.

"Oops. Sorry. Sorry!" she apologized as she stumbled up the steps, nearly tripping.

Mumbling something that might have been a greeting before tapping her card, she found an empty spot by the window and collapsed onto it.

Her cheek pressed against the cold glass, and she had to refrain from gagging from the smell of dust and old seats.

This was strange considering that the buses were usually exceptionally clean.

Perhaps it was the alcohol playing mind games with her.

The bus started moving, and at first, she tried to sit properly.

But the longer she said, the more she wanted to slump.

'Just a few minutes then. I'll rest my eyes for just a few minutes. Just a… just a few…'

Her head dipped.

The swaying of the bus rocked her back and forth. Before she knew it, everything went dark as her eyes closed. She fell asleep.

When her eyes opened again, the bus was quieter than before.

Too quiet.

Miyako blinked a few times, confused. It was only when she snapped her head towards the window that she realized what had happened.

The sky outside was no longer bright. It was darker now, painted in deep blues and purples. Streetlights passed by in slow intervals.

Her stomach dropped.

She shot upright and looked around, panic finally cutting through the fog in her head. There were only a few people left on the bus. She looked out the window again, trying to recognize anything.

Nothing looked familiar.

"…No way," she muttered.

She scrambled off at the next stop, nearly falling again when her feet hit the ground. As soon as the bus pulled away, she screamed.

"I slept through my stop!"

And several after that. The bus had left the city and was somewhere in the middle of "nowhere". She was the only person here, and she couldn't see anyone nearby.

Grabbing her phone, she quickly researched where she was and how to get back to where she was heading.

"Okay. I just have to take that train."

She groaned at her stupidity, bending forward with her hands on her knees.

Her head was throbbing even harder now, and her mouth felt dry and bitter. After a few deep breaths, she forced herself to walk toward the station and caught a train going back the other way.

This time, she refused to sleep.

'I can't fall asleep! Even though the world around me is spinning and I so badly want to sleep… I can't!'

She stood instead, gripping the pole tightly, her eyes wide open even though they burned. Every sway of the train made her stomach churn. The alcohol was turning against her now, punishing her for something that was forced upon her.

She wasn't the one who wanted to drink.

She didn't even want to be there.

She had only gone with her friend because she felt bad and trusted that so-called friend.

It was a trap.

'Speaking of my friend,' she looked at her messages. There were over twenty texts and a missed phone call.

Miyako read through them all.

'You're going to apologize and act like you didn't know. Sureeeee.'

She immediately blocked and removed her as a friend on everything.

'I don't care if you and your friend try to ostracize me after this.'

It wouldn't impact her school life, as all she did was study and work. If anything, she felt relieved that she was finally getting rid of a burden to her extremely busy and difficult life.

"Don't fall asleep… don't fall asleep…" she whispered to herself.

Each stop felt painfully slow.

By the time she finally got off at the right station, it was fully dark.

Getting back to her dorm felt like a blur.

She fumbled with her keys, nearly dropping them twice, before finally getting the door open. Inside, the lights were off. Her roommate was already there, fast asleep, loud snoring filling the room.

Miyako didn't care.

She kicked off her shoes, dropped her bag, and practically collapsed onto her bed. The moment her head hit the pillow, she was gone.
