The moment the wound in the sky widened, a tidal wave of shadows attempted to violently engulf the world. The darkness corroded the edges, devouring it little by little, as if a plague were trying to force its way in and the sky were torn flesh. Then the crack went from pitch black to a bright, incandescent red... a shade so intense that it seemed to suck out the soul.
My legs trembled.
Not from fatigue, but from fear, an instinct I thought I had forgotten.
It was the same feeling you get when you are being watched by a predator, one that you know can kill you at any moment. The air became heavy, almost impossible to breathe. I felt the blood rush to my head and, for a moment, I was about to lose consciousness.
But I persevered.
I did not look away from the sky.
That was when I understood.
From the other side of the crack, something was watching us.
