3rd POV
At the Caltech cafeteria, where doctors and professors crowded the tables for lunch, Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj walked in together, each carrying a tray of food.
Sheldon trailed a step behind, clearly uninterested in whatever conversation the others were having, until Raj glanced back at him. "Hey, I almost forgot, where'd you disappear to? I thought you were taking some kind of leave to go back to Texas?"
Sheldon shook his head. "No. Despite my desire to visit my brother, I realized I had acted too rashly. Leaving without a properly considered plan would have been… illogical."
They all sat down, trays clattering against the table. Leonard, in particular, leaned in, eyeing Sheldon carefully, suspicion laced through his tone. "Okay then. But last night, what happened with you and Penny?"
Sheldon blinked, looking genuinely confused. "You were present, Leonard. What exactly are you asking?"
Raj and Howard exchanged a look, this was the first they'd heard of it. Sure, they knew Leonard had been out with Leslie. That much was obvious, but Sheldon and Penny? That was new.
"I don't know… something's weird going on between you two," Leonard pressed. "Come on, what happened? You're not gonna talk to your friends about it?"
Raj chimed in, mouth half-full, "Wait, something weird's going on with Penny and Sheldon?"
"Ohhh… now it's getting interesting," Howard added, grinning like a cat with cream. "I mean, hey, we all know Sheldon's loaded, and Penny's an 'aspiring actress'…"
Leonard shot him a glare, but Howard just sat back, smug as ever.
Sure, they all knew Sheldon Lee Cooper wasn't exactly like other men. But would that really matter to Penny? He is Richie Rich as Rich! He can make a movie with Penny as Main Character and not thinking about earnings gross for love of god!
"…No. I don't think Penny's that kind of person," Leonard finally said. He looked at Sheldon again, almost as if trying to reassure himself. "And besides, Sheldon cares about his friends more than anything. Right, buddy?"
Sheldon let out a long sigh. "Leonard, you were there. What more do you expect me to clarify? I believe the evidence speaks for itself." He picked up his fork again, resuming his meal like nothing about the conversation bothered him at all, like something stupid thrown at his face which he choose to ignore.
But Leonard's mind didn't quiet down. If there truly was nothing between Penny and Sheldon, then why had Penny left so abruptly? Why had she brushed him off afterward? The thought gnawed at him. He refused to believe Sheldon had some kind of… 'deal'. Sheldon never showed the slightest interest in women.
Across the table, Raj and Howard simply shrugged. In their minds, Sheldon was practically asexual; he'd said it himself: My lady is science.
Raj shifted the topic, leaning toward Leonard. "What about you, Leonard? How was your date with Leslie?"
Howard smirked, waggling his eyebrows. "Translation: did you sleep with her?"
Leonard rolled his eyes, but a small smile tugged at his lips.
"It's going well, actually." He deliberately turned his attention back to his food, a clear signal that he was done with the interrogation.
Howard, of course, picked up on what Leonard meant—or rather, what he didn't mean. If Leonard had actually gotten lucky with Leslie, he would've been glowing with smugness right now. Instead, Howard read the silence for what it was… but chose not to poke at it. Not yet.
Just then, Leslie walked into the cafeteria, balancing her tray with practiced ease, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Hey, fellow scientists," she greeted, her eyes sweeping over Leonard, Howard, and Raj. Then she turned her gaze to Sheldon, her smile widening just a touch.
"Sheldon."
The way she said it dripped with sarcasm and everyone at the table knew it was a jab to Sheldon.
Sheldon, naturally, picked up on it immediately. The others chuckled softly; they were used to this by now. The infamous Sheldon–Leslie feud was practically a campus sideshow. And Sheldon? Well, he seemed to relish his role as enemy number one of half the university by just opening his mouth.
The three of them leaned back, waiting for Sheldon to bite back with one of his trademark verbal counters.
But he didn't.
Instead, Sheldon just kept chewing, slowly, deliberately, his blue eyes locked on Leslie.
Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.
There was no smirk, no insult, no lecture but just a steady, piercing stare that didn't waver.
Not cute little menacing glare like he always do, but silence glare.
Here's the thing about silence: when someone looks at you that calmly, that firmly, like they've already dismissed you… it's more unsettling than words could ever be.
Leslie felt it almost immediately. The small smile on her lips began to falter, her confidence thinning under the weight of Sheldon's gaze. It wasn't hostility she saw….it was worse. It was sarcasm without words. A look that said: you're not worth my time.
Even Howard and Raj felt it, shifting uncomfortably in their seats, their own eyes darting down to their trays. Leonard forced an awkward smile, trying to break the tension.
"Wh-why don't we move to another table? That way, we can all sit together."
"Good idea," Howard said quickly, seizing the escape. Raj nodded in agreement, already getting to his feet.
Leslie exhaled through her nose, shaking her head slightly before following them. Anything was better than being pinned under Sheldon's gaze for another second.
Leonard got up too, but he noticed Sheldon didn't move a muscle. As a good friend, who also didn't want to become Sheldon's nitpicking target later, Leonard lingered for a second, glancing back. Sheldon had already shifted his gaze away from Leslie and was calmly staring at his food again, as if nothing had happened.
"Sheldon…" Leonard whined, drawing out his name.
Sheldon looked up, one brow arched. "What?"
Relieved that the piercing stare from earlier was gone, Leonard exhaled and tried again.
"…Do you want to join us?" He motioned toward the table where Howard, Raj, and Leslie had gone.
"No," Sheldon said flatly, tilting his head as if genuinely puzzled. "Do you want to go over there?"
Leonard threw his hands up. "That was my idea, Sheldon! For us to sit together!" He whined again, exasperated. "Come on, just join us!"
Sheldon glanced down at his tray, then back up with the faintest hint of a smile.
"I don't think so. I'm almost done eating anyway."
"…Oh. Alright then." Leonard muttered, finally giving up as he shuffled over to the others.
Sheldon shook his head, amused by the whole ordeal. Without another word, he stood, picked up his tray, and casually walked out of the cafeteria, leaving his friends in his wake.

As Sheldon left the cafeteria, the rest of the group, plus Leslie, were still staring at the exit door.
"…Okay, what was that?!" Howard finally blurted, rubbing his arms. "I don't want to admit it, but I actually got goosebumps." He shivered, then shot Leslie an accusing glare.
Raj nodded rapidly in agreement, unable to speak with Leslie sitting right there. Instead, he let his body language do the talking.
Leonard tried to play it off, though he felt the same chill. It reminded him of the laundry room incident, when Sheldon had scared him and angry with him. Sure, part of him wanted to scold Sheldon for being socially inappropriate, but deep down, he knew—it all started with Leslie's jab.
"I don't know," Leonard muttered. "He's been… different lately. Yesterday he even came back dressed like some cowboy with hat and other thing." He glanced at Leslie, who was quietly poking at her food.
Feeling the weight of everyone's eyes, Leslie finally looked up. "What?" she said, shrugging. "Are you all scared of Dr. Dumbass now? Please. His cute little glare doesn't bother me at all."
Leonard studied her, half-expecting some crack in her confidence. He wanted to swoop in like a knight saving a damsel in distress—but clearly, that opportunity was never going to happen.
Howard, however, leaned forward with that smirk he always wore when a woman was nearby. Raj, whispering something under his breath, gave him just enough fuel to say the worst possible thing. "…Yeah. Did Sheldon… turn you on or something?" Howard asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
Leslie froze, then looked at him with pure disgust. "You're insane. Should I call you Dr. Fool instead?"
Howard immediately shrank back. That was the kind of nickname reserved for Sheldon, not him. "No thanks," he muttered quickly, retreating to his food.
Leslie rolled her eyes and turned to Leonard instead. "So… are we still on for dinner tonight? Because honestly, I don't even know what's going on with Dr. Dumbass anymore. I'd understand if you wanted to cancel… you know, to go babysit him."
Leonard as a 'good friend' with Sheldon, shook his head quickly, hands waving in protest. "No, no, no. Sheldon's fine. You know him—he's always weird."
Nothing was going to stop him from sealing the deal tonight!.
Leslie nodded, then quietly returned to her meal, letting the nerds chatter around the table.
That's what the boys thought. But only Leslie knew her own mind—and her own body—at that moment.

*3Rd POV
"I mean… can you believe that?!" Penny threw her arms up, pacing in the cramped break room that smelled faintly of cheesecake and fryer oil. She was venting to a petite blonde co-worker who just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time.
"That man, who drives me crazy every time he opens his mouth, actually told me he doesn't love me?!" Penny groaned, slumping into a chair. "I mean, sure, I don't love him like that either, but the way he said it—ugh, he's just so full of himself!"
The petite blonde gave her an awkward smile. She had no idea who Penny was talking about, but she could tell Penny just needed someone to listen.
"Are you sure you don't like him?" the blonde asked gently. "Because… you keep talking about him."
Penny froze, before realizing what she was talking about. "Ugh, I'm sorry. I'm just… mad at him right now. I feel like I got rejected, and it makes me feel so low."
"You mean… sad?" Bernadette tilted her head, skeptical.
"What are you talking about?" Penny blinked at her, thrown off.
Bernadette smiled faintly. "I mean, we girls talk about guys all the time. But lately… you've only been talking about him. I don't know, Penny. Sounds like you've got something about him."
Before Penny could respond, the manager stepped in and looking at them. Bernadette sighed and know their break is over, "Oops—guess our shift's starting again." She hurried out, leaving Penny staring after her.
For a moment, Penny thought about what Bernadette had said. Then she shook her head hard. Absurd thing and No way. There was no way she had feelings for Sheldon. Heck, she wasn't even sure Sheldon had feelings like a normal man.
With a frustrated sigh, she shoved the thought to the back of her mind and went back to work.

Meanwhile, Leonard and Sheldon climbed the stairs toward their apartment in silence. Leonard kept fidgeting, clearly wanting to say something. Sheldon noticed, of course, but said nothing, waiting for Leonard to crack first.
The silence clung to them all the way to the fourth floor. Sheldon unlocked the door and set his bag down. Leonard followed, doing the same, before finally blurting it out:
"Sheldon, I need to tell you something…"
Sheldon turned, giving him his full attention.
"Speak, Leonard. You look like a puppy begging for scraps. You don't need to circle around it—just say it bluntly. You've known me for six years, after all."
That, strangely enough, gave Leonard courage. He squared his shoulders.
"I've got a date tonight… with Leslie. Here. In the apartment."
Sheldon clasped his hands behind his back, studying him, "You want me to leave?"
Leonard nodded hesitantly before Sheldon tilted his head. "Why should I?"
Leonard sighed. He could already feel the exhausting debate looming.
