*3Rd pov
Dinner at the Cooper household had descended into its usual chaos, and this time, Sheldon was the primary target. Again.
Veronica, as always, couldn't resist poking fun at him. "Sheldon and Libby have chemistry," she teased, putting extra emphasis on the word. "Like... actual sparks-flying, romantic chemistry."
Sheldon as always denied it and keep saying that science is his lady.
But….Mary didn't find it funny.
Not even a little.
She clenched her fork tighter, her eyes narrowing. George Sr. noticed but didn't say a word, not yet. This was a conversation for later.
After dinner, Sheldon excused himself and made a call to Libby. He insisted there was nothing going on between them, no romantic implications whatsoever. But somehow, the conversation drifted into science talk, then escalated into a full-on intellectual debate that lasted over an hour.
Mary, emerging from her bedroom, paused when she heard his voice still echoing from the living room.
'He's still on the phone?' she thought, shaking her head.
That boy is nine.
And he's hers, Her baby!.
She sighed, walked toward the kitchen, and found the rest of the family washing dishes and clearing the table.
Veronica was drying a plate, watching Sheldon from across the room with mild amusement. "He's been on the phone for over an hour," she said, turning to Connie with a sly grin. "Georgie said he wouldn't even know he's falling for someone and would deny it the whole way down."
Connie smirked, tossing a dish towel over her shoulder. "Oh honey... Sheldon Lee Cooper is officially in trouble."
Mary immediately shot her a look. "No. No, he's not falling for anyone, alright? They're just having intellectual conversations. That's it."
Her eyes narrowed with a piercing glare, daring anyone to argue with her.
Connie, of course, accepted the challenge with a grin. "And there goes Mama Bear….defending her genius cub."
Mary scoffed, clearly annoyed, while George Sr. watched the two women with an amused frown. He knew Mary didn't like this line of teasing, but… deep down, he agreed with Georgie.
Sheldon needed this. He needed to step out of his bubble.
But what George Sr. didn't know was that Georgie had a deeper reason.
He wanted Sheldon to fall for someone….and get his heart broken.
So that maybe, just maybe… Sheldon would finally learn to understand people, and appreciated them.
"Yeah, right…" George Sr. muttered, when the husband or the boyfriend didn't agree with their wife or girlfriend, they starting to using the oldest male trick in the book: strategic topic change.
He turned to Veronica and asked casually, "So… when's Georgie getting back? Did he say anything to you?"
Like magic, the attention shifted.
Veronica blinked, caught off guard. "He said… maybe in a couple days?"
Everyone around the table nodded slowly. They'd all heard the News from Missy that Georgie had been invited to perform on Hee Haw as a guest artist.
It sounded… too good to be true.
Back when Georgie first got played on local radio, they'd all been thrilled. But Hee Haw? That was national. That was a different league.
When Missy first told them, they thought she was making it up. She'd been met with skeptical looks and frowns, everyone assuming she was pulling another one of her pranks.
But then Veronica confirmed it.
And then… so did Sheldon.
And everyone knew, Sheldon never lied. He couldn't, even if he tried.
So once the family finally accepted the news, they picked up the phone and called Georgie, demanding to know how on earth he got invited to be on Hee Haw.
Turns out… it was thanks to George S.
He had pulled some strings and made it happen.
And not only that he'd be appearing with Georgie on the show.
George S. had been a guest on Hee Haw back in 1983 and 1985. This time, he wanted to share the stage with Georgie.
"Most likely, I'll just sing," George S. explained over the phone, his voice smooth as ever. "But the kid? He's doing a comedy skit with the cast."
Of course, Georgie said yes the moment the offer landed.
He'd be a fool not to.
"Huh… I think I'll head out to the garage, check what's wrong with my old motorcycle," George Sr. suddenly announced, stretching his back and tossing the idea out like it had just occurred to him. "You know… quality bonding time. Me and my boys."
Mary blinked, surprised. "Oh? Well, it would be nice to fix it instead of letting it rot in the garage."
She gave him a warm smile, especially when George Sr. winked at her, sending a little flutter of embarrassment straight to her cheeks.
Connie leaned toward Veronica and whispered playfully, "He won her over because of that motorcycle. I'm telling you."
Veronica giggled and looked at the couple with a knowing grin. "So that's why he kept it all these years, huh?"
George Sr. straightened up, puffing out his chest a little. "You know, I do have some rizz too."
Connie smiled sweetly. "Oh, please. We'd love to see it." Sweet smile or not, all George Sr. saw was the devil behind that grin.
Mary just shook her head at all of them, trying not to laugh.
But then a voice cut through the kitchen.
"Oh, Libby, Libby, Libby…" Sheldon sighed dreamily from the living room, still deep in conversation on the phone.
Mary's head whipped around.
She turned to George Sr., eyes wide in disbelief and a little horror.
"What is happening?!"
{What was happening… was that I was being seduced by the exotic world of geology.} — Adult Sheldon
For the next few days, Sheldon, Tam, and Libby immersed themselves in the world of rocks, soil, and scientific obsession, courtesy of Libby.
As promised, Sheldon accompanied them to a nearby ravine to search for tektites.
{As my brother once said, tektites look suspiciously like raccoon feces. Even with gloves, I maintained a strict "no direct contact" policy.} - Adult Sheldon
Meanwhile, Veronica stayed behind, she had her own adventure ahead.
She, Mary, and Missy were heading to the studio to pick up Georgie.
Georgie had told them there was no need to pick him up, he'd be heading home with Fenley.
But Mary was nothing if not stubborn.
She insisted on meeting with Rosie and Fenley face-to-face.
Especially now that Georgie was being invited to appear on Hee Haw.
This wasn't just some local radio gig.
This was national television, and Mary Cooper wanted detail.
"So… who exactly will be going with Georgie to Tennessee?" she asked, seated across from Rosie and Fenley at the label's modest conference room.
It was a direct question.
One she had asked politely, but with a mother's authority—one that didn't entertain vague responses.
"Of course, all of you," Rosie replied, calm and collected as ever. "You, George Sr., Sheldon, Missy, Connie, and Veronica. Everyone's going to Tennessee."
Mary nodded slowly. "And how exactly are we getting there?"
Rosie didn't miss a beat.
"By plane, of course. All expenses covered by the label."
Fenley smiled, noticing how Mary visibly relaxed at Rosie's words.
"This will be Georgie's first real journey toward becoming a superstar," she said gently.
"He wants all of you there. He wants you to see it."
Mary's smile softened. "Yeah… I'm grateful to both of you. For helping him. For this opportunity."
"You have nothing to worry about," Rosie replied reassuringly.
"If Georgie hadn't caught George S.'s attention, this would've never happened. He earned this."
Mary nodded, thoughtful. "So… when are we heading to Tennessee?"
Rosie leaned back in her chair, calm and confident. "The TV station already contacted us about the contract. Even though Georgie's new—fresh blood, as they call it—we don't want him getting pushed around."
She gave Mary a knowing grin.
"Good," Mary replied firmly.
No one was going to bully her soo or any of her kids.
"Exactly," Fenley added smoothly, sipping her tea with quiet elegance. "We may want more exposure, but that doesn't mean we're letting anyone take advantage of our talent."
Mary looked at both of them with quiet gratitude. "Thank you," she said simply.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the studio…
Veronica sat comfortably on Georgie's lap, arms around his neck, watching James and the others from across the room.
Missy, standing a few feet away, was clutching a fiddle in her hands—far too big for her small frame—and trying her best to play it like a pro.
The sound that came out?
Well… it wasn't good, but it was enthusiastic.
Georgie chuckled, resting his chin on Veronica's shoulder. "Should I tell her that's not how you hold a fiddle?"
Veronica grinned. "Nope. Let her figure it out. She looks like she's fighting a dragon."
Then, she turned her head to Georgie, her smile softening.
"I missed you…" she whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Georgie smiled, pulling her closer from his lap, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist.
He buried his face into the curve of her neck and placed a soft kiss against her skin.
Veronica giggled, squirming slightly. "That tickles!"
It was warm and sweet.
But of course… the moment didn't last.
The sound of footsteps slow but echoing across the studio floor, interrupted everything.
Kayla.
She walked toward them with a stormy look on her face, her boots hitting the floor just loud enough to announce herself.
Of course, Veronica noticed without even turning. She just give her a glance from the corner of her eyes.
A smirk tugged at the corner of her lips, subtle, sharp.
Kayla stopped in front of them, eyes flicking between the couple.
"Heh…" she scoffed, voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Too bad for you. Georgie's only back for a few days… and then he's gone again."
Her smirk deepened, directed right at Veronica.
"..."
Georgie exhaled, already bracing himself.
He knew exactly where this was going.
He was officially in the danger zone.
But Veronica didn't flinch.
"I don't care," she said, her tone calm—but deadly.
"My boyfriend will came back to me."
Then she looked at Georgie, her eyes softening again.
"As long as he still loves me… the way I love him."
And with that, she kissed him, full on the lips.
Hungry and Unapologetic.
Possessive.
And Kayla?
She stood frozen, jaw tight, fists clenched at her sides.
Georgie didn't move at first.
His lips were still tingling from Veronica's kiss, intense like a declaration in front of the whole room.
But his eyes shifted awkwardly to Kayla.
She didn't say anything, but if this argument went any further, Georgie was sure she'd explode. He could practically feel the tension rolling off her.
The tightness in her jaw, the fire in her eyes… it said everything.
Veronica leaned back slightly, still sitting on his lap, her fingers brushing his chest with confidence.
She knew she'd won that round.
And Kayla knew it too.
Veronica's smile didn't fade and looking at Kayla again.
"You always liked showing up when no one asked you to huh. Slut."
"Oof." James muttered from across the room, pretending to tune a guitar, trying (and failing) to look busy.
Missy, meanwhile, had paused her fight with the fiddle and was now watching the drama unfold like she was in the front row of a soap opera.
Georgie saw Kayla ball her fists, ready to leap at Veronica, and finally stepped in before things got out of hand.
"Alright, that's enough," Georgie said, trying to lift Veronica off his lap.
But her arms were still wrapped tightly around his neck, refusing to let go.
"..."
Georgie looked at her, his mouth twitching in silent frustration.
Then he gave up and stood up, lifting Veronica effortlessly to his shoulders.
"Whoa!!" Veronica squealed, surprised and laughing. "You're just gonna carry me like that?!"
"Missy! Let's go home," Georgie said calmly as he carried Veronica like a sack of rice over his shoulder.
Missy laughed. "Veronica, you look ridiculous."
Veronica ignored her and kept her eyes locked on Kayla as they walked past. And just before they exited the room, she raised her middle finger at her.
James, still stuck in the room with Kayla, could only curse under his breath, Georgie had just left him with a ticking time bomb… and it was only a matter of time before it exploded!.
