Her tone turned serious again. "There's another reason the Ten Shadows Trial is so popular. Even if you fail, you still gain experience as long as you survive and leave the trial properly. Plenty of newcomers go in once, fail before they reach the later shadows, and then spend months getting stronger before they try again. But if you push too hard and refuse to retreat, the trial won't show you any mercy."
"Can people actually die in there?" Revona asked.
"Yes," Anna said. "Unlike the Battle Space, the Ten Shadows Trial is real, so if you die there, you're truly dead. The city doesn't protect you, no formation sends your real body back safely, and there's no referee to stop the fight the moment you're overwhelmed. That's exactly why it's so valuable, and it's also why people fear it."
