“I didn’t do anything,” Hwayeong said with a shrug. “Even I wouldn’t lay a hand on him without a reason.”
Sure, if things got desperate, she might slam him into a wall—but that was for emergencies. She wasn’t the type to rough someone up without cause.
Sohwa didn’t look convinced. “You’re certain you didn’t do anything?”
“There wasn’t even a fight. We just sat there watching the rain. I must’ve dozed off at some point.”
“So... nothing happened while you were asleep?”
“...Probably not? I woke up in the same position I fell asleep in.”
“Then why would His Highness suddenly fall ill?”
Since she’d been with him, surely she would know—Sohwa’s expression said as much.
Hwayeong mulled it over, then snapped her fingers.
“Oh, right. It was pretty cold last night. And it rained, too. Maybe he caught a fever.”
‘But didn’t she say his chest hurt?’ She frowned, trying to connect the dots.
