King Edward IV
I shuddered as John, my High Chamberlain, read the prophecy again with his reedy voice. He was an old man. He had long served my kingdom, first as a scholar for my grandfather George and then as High Chamberlain to my father Reginald. Now he was my chief advisor, and none in the realm was gifted with more of the God Cnawen's intelligence than he was.
"You shall die, Mighty King, upon the Hero's Blade
The High King Empire shall rise once more
The Hero of the Lilies departs on perilous quest
Duty shall compel her darkness,
But vengeance shall compel your death
You shall die, Mighty King, upon the Hero's Blade"
"I don't need to hear the words again!" I snapped. "They've echoed in my head for the last three days. What do they mean? Who is this hero and why shall she kill me?"
