Don't underestimate the "Liu Changxun" carrier as a large carrier with a full load displacement of over 80,000 tons; its mobility is not bad. During high-speed turns, the hull leans over 30 degrees. Since it was a left turn, the hull leaned to the right. Looking out from the porthole of the officers' mess, the gray sea turned into a wall of water rushing towards them, as if a tsunami had occurred. Yet, at this moment, no one was looking out the porthole.
It's fortunate for the "Liu Changxun" carrier.
Because a few carrier-borne aircraft were still preparing to land before the attack, the "Liu Changxun" maintained a relatively high speed, close to 28 knots. Crucially, the next step was to launch the air defense fighters, with four steam catapults operating at maximum power, requiring sufficient steam reserves, so four power systems were working at full capacity, able to reach maximum propulsion power within 15 seconds.
