Clawitzer's special ability was Mega Launcher.
Only two Pokémon possessed this rare ability—Mega Blastoise, and Clawitzer along with its pre-evolved form.
The effect of Mega Launcher was simple yet terrifying: all pulse and aura-based moves gained a fifty percent boost in power!
That meant Water Pulse, Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, Dragon Pulse, Heal Pulse, and Psychic Pulse were all devastatingly enhanced!
"Noivern, take to the skies and counter with Air Slash!"
"ROOOAAAR!"
Noivern's massive wings beat with force, propelling it straight into the air! It avoided the incoming Water Pulse and raised its claws high before slicing downward with a sharp "shhhrrrip!"
The invisible blade of air whistled down at Clawitzer.
"Use Hydro Cannon!"
BOOM!
The two attacks collided midair, exploding into a burst of steam that blanketed the battlefield.
Sawyer frowned. This wasn't good. He couldn't allow Clawitzer to stay in a clouded battlefield where the opponent could see while he couldn't.
"Clawitzer, shoot a Water Gun at the ground—clear the field!"
"Good idea," Ash smirked, "but you're too late. Noivern, lock on and use Dragon Pulse!"
"ROOOOAAAR!!"
Noivern's massive ears emitted waves of sound, pinpointing Clawitzer's location despite the blinding steam.
Being the Sound Wave Pokémon, it didn't need its eyes—its entire body was a living sonar.
With a roar, it unleashed a blazing dragon-shaped energy wave that slammed Clawitzer into the air.
"This ends now—Boomburst!"
Ash raised his arm. Noivern's chest vibrated, then—
"ROOOOOOAAARRRRR!!!"
A concentrated, ear-splitting shockwave exploded outward, slamming into Clawitzer with overwhelming force.
Boomburst—one of the most powerful Normal-type moves in existence.
The attack hit Clawitzer dead-on, and it fell unconscious before even hitting the ground.
"Ding! [Congratulations, Host. Noivern has defeated Clawitzer! Tenfold Experience Card activated—earned 75,800 battle experience points!]"
Level up!
Level 49!
Level 50!
Noivern roared victoriously—it had reached a new milestone.
"Ahh… I lost again. Ash, why was your Noivern able to hit Clawitzer even when it couldn't see through the steam? Is there a trick to it?"
Sawyer quickly pulled out his notebook, ready to jot down every detail.
"No," Ash shook his head, smiling, "Noivern's ears release special sound waves. It uses echolocation to pinpoint opponents. That's just what it is—its classification is literally the Sound Wave Pokémon. Other Pokémon can't replicate that."
This was basic knowledge for those familiar with sound-based Pokémon, but it was natural that Sawyer hadn't known.
"I see…" Sawyer nodded seriously, recording the lesson. Once again, battling Ash had given him priceless experience.
Ash really was the kind of trainer he aspired to be—so strong, so reliable.
"Let's go again, Sceptile!" Sawyer clenched his fist.
"SEPPPTILE!!"
Ever since witnessing Ash's Sceptile battle Alain's Mega Charizard X, Sawyer's own Sceptile had been burning with determination.
It had trained harder than ever before, desperate to close the gap with Ash's Sceptile—even to surpass it one day.
But there were some things… that effort alone could not bridge.
"Greninja, let's go."
"Ku-ka!"
Ash sent out Greninja.
"So it's Greninja again… Last time, Sceptile lost too easily. This time we won't! Sceptile, Leaf Blade!"
"Greninja, Cut!"
Ash's focus sharpened. He wanted to test it—to see if he and Greninja could break past their limit once more.
To awaken Greninja's second form, they needed to be completely united—body, mind, and spirit.
"Ku-ka!!"
"Seppptile!!"
Leaf Blade should have been stronger, but as their blades clashed, Sawyer's Sceptile felt something strange—its strength was being diverted, dissolved, as if Greninja's Cut was dispersing its power.
The energy-forged blade in Greninja's hands met Leaf Blade head-on, holding it back shockingly well.
"Double Team!"
"Bullet Seed—wipe them out!"
Pew-pew-pew!
The clones vanished under the storm of seeds—except for one. The real Greninja leapt high, soaring over Sceptile's back.
"It's behind you—watch out!"
"Aerial Ace!"
CRACK!
Greninja's foot connected, sending Sceptile tumbling across the battlefield.
The grass-type Pokémon staggered, forcing itself up with wild determination. Its eyes locked fiercely on Greninja.
"Greninja!!"
"Ku-ka!!"
Their gazes met—and something stirred.
An unseen power flowed between trainer and Pokémon.
A towering column of water erupted around Greninja—but this time, it was different.
The water didn't form a protective sphere around it. Instead, it spread outward, shaping itself into a pair of massive, shuriken-like wings on its back.
Ash's eyes widened in excitement.
At last—Greninja had awakened its Second Form!
