Anthony quickly dismissed what Charlotte said, for he was too stubborn to hear it.
As soon as he set his mind on someone or something, it would be difficult to change his mind.
To him, Charlotte was a woman who would cling to power by any means, so whatever she said was nothing worth hearing.
"Don't think that your trick can work on me," growled Anthony. "My noble blood runs through Tercero's veins, so it's impossible that he's related to you. You need to stop your act!"
"But the blood of the covenant is thicker than water in the womb!" Charlotte retorted. Anthony's hatred of her was no threat to her bond with Tercero.
Just before Tercero was about to leave with Anthony, Charlotte made a final request to spend an extra hour with the boy, to which Anthony complied.
On the other hand, Tercero began wailing when he realized that he would be leaving his mom.
As much as Charlotte had prepared him to face the world on his own, he never expected to be put to the test so soon.
