Slipping through the reanimated bones of what had once been a living giant, Chase torpedoed his burning body into a raging inferno.
'Nice...' He thought, raggedly huffing in the stale air within his mask.
They had descended several floors deeper into the ruins, passing by several strange remnants and confusing layouts.
There had been the remains of a poorly guarded vault only a single room above the current. Although it had been filled with mostly junk and useless relics, Equan and Michael had still somehow ended up snagging several unknown artifacts from the several piles of garbage.
Now they stood exhausted in the center of what had once been a great hall.
It had aged poorly over the countless years, having vines gnawing through the cracked sediment walls. With webs covering every corner and every support beam, with countless overgrown spiders creepily making their way across the endless bridge of silk that spanned all throughout the ancient hall.
"Get out of the way!" Leo screamed, colliding with several withered deformities that were barreling straight for Chase.
"Shit..." Chase muttered under his breath as the motions of Leo's bronze battle axe tore up everything within the range of him.
His resting body; however, was running on fumes. He had lost count of how many monsters he had slain with his own hands, draining his Primis and Axis reserves to their absolute limits.
A loud clash rang throughout the colossal hall overflowing with horrible creatures.
Chase quickly turned his head, watching as Michael's bitter scythe sliced the blade of a reanimated knight in two.
The Scythe of Frost; however, did not look good, and nor did it's creator...
Michael was leaning heavily on the raw damage of his weapon, and his armor had certainly seen better days as well. It was cracked and shattered, revealing his slowly frosting skin.
'That's not good...' He thought, analyzing everything in sight with the few seconds of rest he had.
On the other side of the hall, beneath a large archway, Neveah had trapped herself within her own barrier. Nearly on the cusp of collapse as fiends and monsters began to flood overtop of the barrier as a group... Drowning her in a sea of endless foes...
Crackle...
Spark...
BOOOMMMM!!!
Golden flashes of lightning lit up the entire hall like a fireworks display, showering the air with streaks of blue and yellow bolts of powerful electricity, no doubt packing enough punch to light up Solis for multiple nights.
Joyous laughter echoed through the halls as the trails of gold crackled several times before scattering into countless electrons.
Chase instantly leaned his upper body into a limbo position, eyes widening as a cleaver shot through the empty space where his head had been seconds ago.
A terrible looking goblin, wearing matte black armor grinned wickedly as its eyes met Chase's briefly, before the beast dashed past him.
Catching the sight for only the split second after the goblin vanished from his direct vision aimed upwards, he spotted a visible breeze of smokey wind pin a group of undead hounds against the ceiling of the hall. Then only shortly after, dust and debris began to follow the quakes and tremors above the room that the group known as Unity held the line within.
Chase's body twitched, forcing himself to make an action.
He rolled to the left, with a monstrous fist crashing into the ground at his right.
His knees threatened to buckle under the terrible force of the giant behind him, so he growled-pressing his own monstrous amount of power into his bones and joints.
The ground exploded into cracks and craters, with his body rocketing into the air like a comet.
He reached up, unsure if he had enough height to actually pull this off.
His eyes darted around the giant hall, still trying to understand the full extent of the situation at hand... And what he could do to turn the tides... His body began to reach the climax of its take-off, and only with his fingers inches away from grasping the crumbling ceiling... His body began to descend...
Then a flash of ocean blue lit up at the corner of his retina.
'Thanks!' He grinned at his ally before catching the soaring trident, bracing as its forked blades pierced the ceiling with a loud tear, latching into the sediment as Chase hung from the handle on its azure pole-like handle, engraved with ancient language.
He took a deep breath, suspended only by his own grip strength above the active chaos that was reigning supreme bellow.
A cold silence, followed by the slowness that one facing death would only feel.
His core was aching, and his panting breath was rising in temperature, filling his onyx mask a dangerous amount of smoke.
He gazed down upon the battlefield...
Reinhart was down there, taking blow after blow from a brutish monster that wore similar gauntlets holding nearly the same amount of force as their friend Hans.
Luke was putting his body on the line in order to protect Kaylynn and Gemini who were nearing their breaking point in the pathetic attempt at a backline.
His metal arm, now acting as a small shield that protected his head from an onslaught of projectiles every time he fired his small crossbow. It had gained several dents and cracks large enough for Chase to notice even from the heights that he hang from.
Gritting his teeth, with no other options left...
He pulled his body upside down.
Slamming the soles of his armored boots into the weakened and cracked ceiling above, he coughed violently, staining the inside of his mask with his own blood.
However, it was the face he wore that reassured him that everything was going to be fine.
A terrible grin was smeared in blood beneath the obsidian skull that wore a terrifying grin of its own.
His long blonde hair began to break through the back of his helmet, flowing with dancing neon flames as it hovered lavishly behind him.
His knuckles turned white from the increasing strength in his hand, and then...
Things began to speed up, allowing his senses to catch up with the present moment.
Only then... A loud strum echoed throughout the hall, shocking the army of beasts into paralysis the moment it creeped into their ears.
Chase's eyes darted around in confusion...
Beneath his armor... The hairs on his skin had instantly shot up in response of the well-tuned string.
He loosened his grip on the trident, allowing his body to relax under the strange and newfound feeling of passion.
BOOOMMMM!!!!
A deadly bolt of lightning blew the entire Northern wall of the room into smitheries. Allowing who must have been Griffin the chance to go all out.
Reality began to return to its normal pace, just as both what had been Chase's boots sending a terrible shockwave through the entire upper section of Olympia, as well as the strings of a golden lute had begun to pick up their pace.
Chase had no time to pay attention to the loud music that was drowning the hall in an overwhelming amount of magic energy... Because he was soaring at lightning speeds towards the behemoth that had nearly flattened him moments before.
In his right hand, followed the surprisingly heavy trident that Gabriel had let him borrow.
Reeling back his upper body against the force of physics that was propelling him forward at an astonishing speed, he pulled his right arm back, forcing all of his newfound axis energy into the joints of his shoulder and elbow.
Their eyes met only briefly...
The soaring meteor of a man wearing the face of a dead god...
and the giant monster that wore the face of a man...
