Chapter 12 - Eye catcher.

(A child points at mars.)

And so does Keiaru, pointing at the gem at center of the golden crown of scales on the fish's head. "There! it's that shiny red spot, right?" She asked, the barrier continued to protect her from the crashing waves and the debris destroying the village.

Renzo dropped inside the barrier, tying the last knot for the massive rope he made. He kneeled next to her, patting her shoulder. "Good, amazing! You can finally see into the spirit world!"

"The... spirit world!?" She began to touch her face, checking her warmth.

"I'd never get you killed." Renzo reached into his pocket, pulling out a purifying stone. "I'll explain it later, but for now, take this." he shoved it into Keiaru's hands before tugging the rope tightly.

"Can I trust you won't let that stone slip off of the red scale?"

"Of course!" her confidence was present in her tone but the way the fish thrashed above the strangely deep river, did little to sell her claim as believable.

Renzo stood up, walking to the edge of the barrier and nodding. "Be sure to hold on, it will thrash furiously."

He leapt away, hopping rock to rock to stay above the waves as he drew the colossal fish's attention toward himself.

Keiaru stayed for a moment, looking at the waves, the deep water, that violent kaiju. She took a deep breath silencing the sounds around her. "It's just water... I drink water everyday! I can do this!" With a nod of her head, she leapt, making it to the top of the tree and skipping over to the ruined houses as she approached the mass of mindless destruction.

Deeper in the forest, a more mindful fury targeted Fujima.

Hanzo searched for him, looking behind every tree and canopy.

Fujima lost his spear and was taught by the man who hunts him, so he only had the small surprise his net gave him.

Hanzo was relentless, he wouldn't give Fujima space. Suddenly, the branch Fujima clung to was cut from beneath him. Fujima fell to his back in front of Hanzo, his fishing spear pointed at Fujima's throat.

"You could warn me..."

Hanzo drew the spear back, "You could just come peacefully!" he complained, thrusting the spear toward Fujima. The surprisingly nimble fisherman rolled to safety, tripping Hanzo along the way.

His palms slammed to the ground. "You little!" He pushed himself up, immediately pursuing Fujima.

Fujima vanished behind another tree, surprising Hanzo with a weighted end of his net. Hanzo ducked under the surprise attack but Fujima tugged a corner of the net back, unfurling the net above Hanzo.

Hanzo quickly pinned the net to the tree with his spear and rolled away.

Fujima tossed the spear deeper into the forest before shuffling back three steps. He whipped the weights of his net toward the bottom of Hanzo's chin, but Hanzo snatched a stick from the ground and hooked the net.

He reeled Fujima in and punched him in the gut, going for another, but Fujima blocked it and attempted a counter.

Hanzo weaved past the counter and delivered two punches to Fujima's face, striking a third time with the back of his hand.

Fujima tried to fall back and escape but Hanzo pulled him back up using the stick, and continued to pummel Fujima

Keiaru, stood at the top the frame of a ruined house. Renzo stood on a boulder just high enough above the water. He tied a large purifying stone to the one end of his long rope and tossed the other end forward, then reeled it back starting a slow spin that swung over two buildings. The rotation got faster, its weight whistling in the wind till it sounded like a wide flute.

Renzo whipped the rope into the side of the fish. The stone wrapped around its body and stuck onto the fish's scales.

The stone shined, glaring to Keiaru from where she stood. It began drawing out a black, fire like essence, down rope.

As Renzo shut his eyes, a green flame spread from his hands along the rope clashing with the black flame. The connection made a dull, muffled *ding*.

A strange, serene calmness followed after it.

The fish stopped moving, the water calmed, but Hanzo was struggling, sweating bullets. "Keiaru the stone! use it!" he shouted through a pained grunt.

"Hurry..." The black flame began to pile upon the green flame, slowly pushing it back.

Keiaru rushed to the undamaged half of the dock. She hesitated, but leapt off the dock regardless, taking a log with her. As she began to fall closer to the water, she tossed the log down and used it as a stepping stone to leap from the river to the spiny dorsal fin of the fish, using one of the spines to further launch herself to the head.

The air grew thicker the longer she took, and a moment of rushing caused her the stone to fumble in her hands, but she caught it, slamming it onto the red gem in the center of the fish's head.

A singular ripple flowed through the still water, as a deeper silence closed in. Nothing happened, but the weight in the air vanished, along with the moisture.

Then the stone cracked open

It was an instant of pure, unnatural power, an explosion of silver lightning with enough power to put a crater in the water below. Winding strands of lightning spread across the air, bore through fish's massive frame like parasites.

In the center of all the power, Keiaru's hand was bound on top of the scale and the fragments of stone by the lightning strings. A pink soothing light pulsed, the black flames receded, the kaiju's body dropping forward as Renzo tugged. "Just hold the stone on that gem!"

The crashing sound of the fish's toppling echoed through the forest, distracting Hanzo mid swing. The net was hung in the tree behind him and Fujima was being held by the collar, barely standing. Hanzo looked toward the direction of the dock, noticing the silence first.

"Did they defeat it...?" He wondered. In his moment of distraction, Fujima stirred up enough energy to lunge at him yet was stopped by single palm strike to the chest. "I made you a choose last time... but you need to come back with us."

"...As if... you can take me..." Fujima feinted with his broken arm and went for a right hook. But Hanzo blocked it and struck under the chin, knocking Fujima out.

Hanzo shook his head and raised a fist into the air, a blue light shining from it. "We're leaving now."

Keiaru and Renzo managed to drag the fish halfway out of the water when the fish started glowing with that same blue light. The light traveled through the tail and into the water, creating a glowing vortex. Keiaru looked at it, watching tendrils of water snake around the fish and grasp it.

"Is this supposed to happen?" Keiaru asked.

Before Renzo could answer, the Fish and rope were snatched from his hand. The massive body was lifted into the air tossing Keiaru on top of a ruined house.

The fish was dropped into the endless vortex, it's full frame vanishing under the river. The flow of water returned and the river cleared up, shallow once more.

"Where did it go?" Keiaru asked, leaping from the roof. She joined Renzo at the edge of the pond, watching the tiny fishes swim down stream. Leaving one hand on her hip, she gestured to the river. "How a creature as massive as it was possibly sink in this much water?"

Renzo scratched his head "However that happened... It's gone for now. We catch up with Fujima."
