Chapter 869 - Chapter 866

Chapter 866

Nasubi looked at Ron. Ron met his gaze without the slightest intention of avoiding it.

After a long pause, Nasubi spoke. "The Sequence position I intend to become was passed down by our ancestors in Kakin. It's called the Overseer. Its primary ability is to observe a target's actions and then formulate a corresponding rule. If the target violates that rule, I can punish them."

Compared to Specter, the Overseer's ability was more complex. This brought both advantages and disadvantages. The downside was that it was more difficult to use, but the upside was that once successfully activated, its effects were far stronger.

Having revealed this crucial detail, Nasubi's tone softened. "Ron, once you reach the Dark Continent, you can also search for a suitable Ascension Relic. When that time comes, you too can become a Sequence user and gain power beyond S-rank."

"Ron, would you be interested in joining Kakin? If you agree, I can help you search for an Ascension Relic once we arrive on the Dark Continent."

Ron raised an eyebrow slightly. "And what would I have to give in return? A verbal promise won't be enough, I assume."

"Of course not," Nasubi replied. "We would need to form a pact."

"If you join Kakin, I can help you obtain an Ascension Relic, and once we return to the Human World, Kakin will offer you immense wealth and status. In addition to Morena, I can also arrange for a royal woman to marry you—someone from the royal family itself. Even one of the current contenders in the Succession War."

Those few sentences revealed quite a bit. First, Nasubi was confident he would survive and return to the Human World.

Second, constructing an Ascension Relic through the Egg Ceremony did not require all the princes to die. This, too, could be seen as Ron's reply.

From Nasubi's perspective, Ron had swept away the pieces on the board and openly brought up Sequence users—clearly as a way to leverage disruption of the Succession War as a threat to Nasubi, hoping to gain something from it.

But now, Nasubi had made his stance clear: Ron, if you're thinking of interfering with the Succession War to threaten me, don't bother. It wouldn't work. He didn't need all the princes to die. As long as a portion of them perished, his ritual could proceed. And when that happened, he would become a Sequence user. Killing an ordinary S-rank Nen user like Ron would pose no problem.

Ron understood the implications beneath Nasubi's words. But in truth, he had no intention of interfering with the Succession War. And while he was technically still an S-rank Nen user, with Specter, his overall combat strength had already reached the level of a Sequence user. The strength of his Nen beasts was part of his true power.

Ron shook his head. "Sorry, Nasubi. I don't have such plans for now. I'm a member of the Zoldyck family. Joining Kakin would have significant implications for us, and I can't make that decision lightly. Besides, I have no interest in these princes. As for the Ascension Relic, I'll search for one myself."

Nasubi shrugged. "That's up to you."

Ron stood up. "If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."

"Alright."

Nasubi watched Ron's departing figure. Even after he disappeared, he didn't withdraw his gaze.

"I didn't expect Ron to know so much. Was it that old fossil from the Zoldyck family who told him? How does he know this much? Or is he… a Sequence user too?"

Nasubi narrowed his eyes.

"But it doesn't matter much. The Dark Continent is vast. With only a handful of people entering, it's unlikely we'll encounter any real competition. As long as the Succession War concludes, Ron won't be able to compete with me. S-rank and Sequence—they're fundamentally different."

"Still, if I could bring Ron under my wing, it would be for the best. If he can't find an Ascension Relic out there, eventually he'll come to me for help. And then… there's also Morena. Ron and I are not the same. He values emotional ties more."

When Ron returned to the second floor, Machi and the others were still training on the fifth floor. He took out his Zodiac Card and sent a message to the three of them.

"Where are you?"

All three replied.

Misty was the first to respond. "Big brother, we're on the fifth floor. Machi brought in members of the Phantom Troupe to spar with us."

Phantom Troupe? Ron hadn't expected that. Given their personalities, it was surprising they had agreed to such a request. But aboard the Black Whale, he reconsidered. It wasn't unusual here. The Phantom Troupe no longer stood at the top. There were many individuals here even stronger than them.

"How's the training going?"

"Not bad."

"Good. Then keep going."

"Big brother, are you back?"

"I am."

Ron didn't continue chatting with Misty. Instead, his gaze shifted toward the window.

They were now completely out of range of the Human World. The mainland was no longer visible. According to the route, the next stop would be the Gatekeeper Continent for resupply—or perhaps to find a guide.

With a thought, Ron opened a door and stepped into Sumas's space. Then he opened another door. Passing through it, his figure appeared outside the Black Whale.

A wave of ominous energy instantly swept toward him.

It was similar to the aura Specter had sensed from an Ascension Relic.

"Ken."

But these auras couldn't penetrate Ron's Nen.

"The Tenth Princess must have died within these mists."

Ron scanned his surroundings.

This wasn't the highest point of the Black Whale, but from here, he could see much of the area. Over half the vessel's body was submerged below the sea, with only the upper structure visible. The color of the sea here was different from that of the Human World—not blue, but a faint shade of black. It was calm, with only some ripples near the Black Whale.

Ron looked toward the surface of the sea.

"I wonder what kind of creatures live in these waters."

After a moment of thought, he pulled out a fishing rod. With a flick of his wrist, the line dropped toward the sea.

The next instant, the line went taut.

Ron's eyes lit up slightly.

"Shu."

He infused the entire rod with aura—rod, line, and hook all reinforced.
