Gladion stood about two hundred metres from Moltres who was still in third air looking somewhere distant.
The heat hit him. His lips cracked. Sweat dried the instant it left his skin. The air itself felt thick and angry.
'Fuck it's as if I am facing Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto's bankai,' he thought. 'If I stay here a full day I would melt into a puddle from just the heat. And the aura pressure is insane. I have only felt something close from big brother Latios and big sister Latias, and they were holding back the whole time. And I am glad they were holding back because it's tough trying to stand straight against one legendary let alone two. How the fuck did Ash act so cool and calm in front of all the legendaries that he had met?'
He glanced back down the slope to check upon the army. They looked fine and were gaining ground.
Up in the sky, Pidgeot carrying reporters and camera crews circled overhead now that the army had cleared most flying Pokémon. Lights flashed. Drones buzzed.
Gladion shook his head and mumbled. "Even with a legendary ready to burn the world, they still want content. Unbelievable."
He turned to his team lined up beside him. "You ready, team?"
Every Pokémon nodded, eyes burning with fight.
Nyx flicked her tail and smirked. [I am going to drag that overgrown chicken down from her high perch and make her eat dirt.]
Zeus crackled with electricity. [I will zap that flaming turkey until she looks like burnt toast.]
Tengen clicked his claws. [I will cut those fancy fire wings into confetti.]
Mystique flipped her hair. [I will freeze that hot-headed pigeon and sell her as a fancy ice statue.]
'Umm are they competing who could give a better insult or who could make Moltres angrier?' Gladion thought wryly.
Lee punched the air. [I will punch her so hard she forgets how to fly.]
Guy struck his shining pose. [I will prove that the blazing fire of YOUTH burns ten thousand times hotter than her weak little campfire! YOSH!]
Gladion laughed despite everything. "Remember, whatever happens, I love you all. You are my family. We have beaten every one we fought, every obstacle, every foe together. We will beat this one too because we are the best."
He looked at Collosus. "Big guy, your job is to hold her in place. Do not tank too many hits. She is a real legendary and can roast even an alpha Tyranitar if she wants."
Collosus gave a grumpy grunt, clearly offended.
His much smaller mother reached up and smacked the back of his giant leg. [Listen to your human, brat! The Queen is strong. One serious hit and even your thick head will turn to ash. Be smart!]
Collosus rubbed the spot and looked embarrassed. The other Tyranitar tried not to laugh.
The six wild Tyranitar stepped far back. They had promised no one would interfere in this fight. But they were unwilling to fight the queen of the mountain either.
Gladion opened his mouth to give final orders to his Pokemon, but he froze. Moltres had locked her burning white eyes on him. Pure hatred poured out. He was the reason her revenge was stopped. He was the reason cities with humans still stood. He had to go.
She opened her beak. A Flamethrower roared out, thicker than a train, bright as the sun. The ground under it turned to glass instantly. Rocks exploded into lava. The air itself screamed from the heat.
Gladion shouted over the noise. "Hydros, Mystique, Hydro Pump full power!"
Two giant water pillars shot forward. They hit the fire and turned to steam before they even touched it. The Flamethrower kept coming.
"Zeus Thunder! Nyx Shadow Ball chain! Ultron, Tengen, Flash Cannon!"
Lightning, dark orbs, and silver beams crashed into the fire. The flames slowed but still pushed forward like a living thing.
"Collosus Hyper Beam now!"
The alpha Tyranitar planted his feet. White energy gathered fast. He fired. The Hyper Beam met the Flamethrower in the middle along with all the other attacks from Gladion's Pokemon.
BOOM.
The explosion shook the entire mountain. A white shock wave rolled outward. Rocks the size of cars flew. The ground cracked in every direction.
Ultron threw up a psychic barrier just in time. Even behind the shield, everyone felt the heat and pressure slam into them. When the light faded, a new crater fifty metres wide smoked in the centre of the plateau. Trees for hundreds of metres around were gone. Only black glass and ash remained.
Gladion's ears rang from the sound of the explosion. 'All that power and we only stopped her attack halfway. We did not even push it back.'
But his widened as he saw Moltres take action again.
Moltres screeched in fury. She swung both wings forward. A glowing Air Slash thirty metres tall flew straight at them.
Gladion linked aura with Ultron. Light Screen flashed into existence. The Air Slash hit, shattered the psychic screen, kept going, but lost most of its strength.
Collosus stepped in front and punched the remaining blade of air away with one bloody paw. The shock wave still carved a deep scar across the mountain. Trees snapped in half. The ground split open.
Gladion looked at Collosus's bleeding hand and felt cold fear. All their planning, all their preparation, and the legendary had not even taken damage yet. His plan to tire and weaken Moltres had become useless.
There was only one choice left.
"Collosus, IT'S TIME!" Gladion shouted.
He pulled a necklace with a shining rainbow-coloured stone from his pocket and threw it high toward his alpha Tyranitar.
