Chapter 8 - 007: Of What Use?

"I saw King Cedric stab me to death in my dream," Adelaide finally muttered, tears now streaming down her face.

Knowing she has never stopped the future she saw from happening, all of them always happen eventually, it makes her feel like she was cursed.

This is the worst ability anyone would ever ask for.

Of what use is seeing the future which thrust one into the deepest abyss?

"You said you were going to help me, how?" She asked, snapping Priestess Ize who seemed lost in her thoughts.

"Princess Adelaide, I would pray to the goddess—"

"If you are going to just pray to the goddess, then don't bother because they have never once listened to my prayers! I don't think she even exists in the first place," she let her tears flow down freely, ruining her perfect makeup. "Since you know my mother, can you tell me what she meant by running away from beasts?"

"She—"

"So this is where you are, Adelaide? Aren't you supposed to be making preparations to be with your husband, perhaps you're going to Eldrid?" Queen Gloria's voice made the room go silent.

Before Adelaide could reply, she continued, "And you, Priestess Ize, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be offering your rituals to the goddess for a successful union?"

"Queen Gloria, I know you want all of us—"

"If you are about to start the conversation of Adelaide being special then don't! I could see through your lies now," Queen Gloria burst out, not caring about Adelaide's presence. "She is the weakest amongst us. She has no power, yet you still claim she is special. Well, you are right about her being our salvation, so stop trying to ruin our chances to be saved!"

Priestess Ize, who knew she would never win against the Queen of Shin-ey, stood up, bowed before leaving Adelaide's room.

"Adelaide, what are you waiting for? Won't you go and meet your husband?" Queen Gloria asked, her brow gathered.

Before Adelaide, who was already tired of everything, could reply to her question, she continued. "This won't do, you have to look presentable to your husband."

"Isla! Isla!" Queen Gloria screamed out as if she wants to bring down the chamber with her voice. "Isla, go get me the… no, I would dress her myself," she concluded the moment Isla came panting.

"Stand straight," she instructed Adelaide, her voice calm, yet sounded broken. "I know you don't want to get married to King Cedric because of the rumors about how his wives ended up, but this has to happen, so don't hate your father," her voice echoed as she worked her magic on Adelaide's fragile body frame.

The gown she was making on Adelaide's body was extremely gorgeous, a kind Adelaide had never seen on anyone, not even the queen herself.

"I have always wanted to dress my daughter this way on her wedding day," she muttered calmly as she did the final touch on the gown which made breathing hard for Adelaide.

The gown hugged her body perfectly, the blue radiating light standing out in her room, making her look regal. Like a queen.

"I don't hate father or you. Since this is going to save all of us from the vampires, I would do it again and again," Adelaide muttered, trying hard not to reveal the lies in her words.

Right now, she wants to run away from here. She doesn't want to meet the kind of end she encountered in her dream.

"Thank you for doing this," Queen Gloria's voice echoed weakly, sounding like she was about to cry.

Adelaide, who was praying hard for Queen Gloria not to style her hair, felt the tender touch which loosened her rough hair, making it fall on her back.

"Isla, take her to her husband's room," Queen Gloria instructed before leaving.

Adelaide let out a deep sigh before leaving for Cedric's chamber, Isla leading the way. Even though she was a princess, she barely roamed around the castle.

The only day she does come out and at least pretend to be like others is during the annual ball event which yesterday's was her last.

"This is the room, Princess Adelaide," Isla muttered before leaving.

Adelaide didn't bother announcing her presence before pushing the door open. She walked into the room, carrying each step slowly, her gown sweeping the floor.

"You are here," Cedric's voice echoed, making her tighten her grip around the side of her dress.

She wanted to take her gaze off Cedric, but she couldn't. The feeling to touch that masculine broad chest, abs which were exactly like the men in stories Isla used to tell her, and the water dripping down his face down his chest.

With each gaze of hers that trail off Cedric's body, she felt like her breath was leaving with it. As if she literally forgot how to breathe.

"Would you like me to take off everything, dear wife?"
