As her hazel eyes swept the hall, Delilah Hunter recalled the day that her father had first allowed her to read from Amara's diary.

She had been 18 years old at the time and the day had started in his office, standing behind his desk with her hands clasped behind her back, her face impassive and emotionless as he spoke:
"This is our history. This is why we do what we do. This is why you have to be strong Delilah. Stronger than those disgusting demons that killed your mother. Weakness means failure, and you aren't a failure are you?"
"No sir." She'd answered immediately.
Later that same day, he had led her down into the tunnels below Basement 3 and placed her face to face with the demons that she hated, forcing her awakening, and leaving her curled up on the floor, biting back every pained scream that threatened to escape her lips.
"Weakness means failure." He'd said.
