"You are my kin. Saving you was an obligation."
Kaidric's declaration left Orion completely bewildered.
When exactly did I become his kin? Orion thought, his mind racing. Was he once a Titan? Or does he view this Deathly Soul-Reaper avatar as his own true body?
As if reading his thoughts, the Commander stepped in to clarify.
"It is the law of the Death-Soul race," the Commander explained, his voice low. "To occupy the vessel is to inherit the lineage. You may not claim them, but by their ancient laws, you are now one of them."
Orion found the logic alien. In any other context, seizing someone's body was an act of violation, a cause for vendetta. Yet here, it was an adoption?
"My friend," Kaidric's voice boomed from the other side of the singularity, cutting through Orion's internal debate. "You didn't wake me just to gossip about my people's traditions, did you?"
