Chapter 445 - 445: Preparing for Entry (2)

"Victarion Greyjoy of the Iron Islands murdered the old Kraken, took the Salt Throne, and is now making contact with Tywin Lannister." The Navy representative spoke with an air of great concern.

"There's no doubt that Victarion will side with the Lannisters. In that case, the enemy's fleet will greatly outnumber ours. This is a severe crisis! Our Navy must dispatch strong support for Jason!" As the representative spoke, he looked like he was facing an imminent invasion, which left the other experts momentarily speechless.

Seriously, they thought, how can you call Victarion's fleet of wooden longships a 'severe crisis'?

Your navy could send a single gunboat and sink Victarion's entire wooden fleet.

The Air Force representative internally scoffed at the Navy's brazen exaggeration of the threat. "Given that Daenerys has three massive dragons and thus has huge air superiority, our Air Force intends to send a squad of J-15s to provide air support for Jason!" he declared with a righteous expression.

Before anyone could look at the Air Force representative with the contempt they deserved, the Rocket Force representative waved his hands dismissively. "Alas, why would we need planes! Let's save some fuel. We can just send a few rocket launch vehicles!"

"Rocket missiles?" The Air Force representative's face darkened. "Isn't that overkill? The enemy is just a bunch of ancient soldiers on horseback with swords. Do we need to be that ruthless?"

"Exactly, exactly! Let's keep the Rocket Force and the Air Force out of this, and just leave it to our Army!" The Army representative cut in with a chuckle. "Planes and missiles are a waste! Our Army soldiers can just fire a few shots—a few bursts, and I guarantee those ancient soldiers will run terrified!"

"Old Li, your Army is being completely shameless! Are you trying to hog all the glory?" The Air Force representative was irate; such a prime opportunity couldn't be monopolized by the Army.

"Old Yan, what do you say, Navy? How can the Army exclude us?" The Rocket Force representative tried to pull the Navy into the argument.

The Navy representative spread his hands and laughed. "If the Army doesn't want to walk a thousand miles on foot, our Navy's transport ships will certainly be necessary!"

Watching the several military leaders argue, the other experts on the advisory group exchanged awkward glances.

Finally, Professor Wang, who was presiding over the meeting, interrupted them. "The military is not in urgent need! Jason has already replaced his 50,000-plus soldiers with Type 5 or 6 automatic rifles. Such a near-modern hot-weapon force will completely crush all the ancient cold-weapon soldiers in A Song of Ice and Fire. Therefore, we don't need to worry about force; we will focus mainly on economic construction!"

Professor Wang continued seriously, "Furthermore, if all three of your armed forces make a big, noticeable move, it will highly increase the probability of leaking our secret! Right now, the international attitude towards us isn't very friendly. Australia, at the instigation of America, keeps making noise. And the politicians in Taiwan are constantly buzzing. Any abnormal mobilization of our three major armed forces would likely provoke America and its allies."

After hearing Professor Wang's words, the representatives of the three military branches looked chastened. As Professor Wang pointed out, using their modern army to fight in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire would truly be like using a cannon to kill a mosquito—not worth the immense cost! Mobilizing the modern military costs vast amounts of money, and the high-level leadership would certainly be unwilling to engage in such a loss-making endeavor. Using the native soldiers under Jason's command is the most cost-effective solution.

"Then, let's implement the plan we previously discussed!" Professor Wang concluded. "I hope everyone mobilizes the necessary personnel and equipment as quickly as possible. Next time, the portal opens, we will enter the world of A Song of Ice and Fire."

"Our negotiating team has already identified a suitable candidate!" The head of the negotiation team, a top talent transferred from the diplomatic corps, was tasked with leading the team and negotiating with the people of Westeros.

More precisely, it would be a confrontation with the northern lords and the Riverlands nobles. With the countless advanced goods Jason brought from the modern world, coupled with his mysterious means of transport, the northern lords and Riverlands nobles were likely already deeply concerned, even if they hadn't mentioned it.

Now that the greatest threat—the ghouls—had been eliminated, it was time to confront the people of Westeros. The decision was approved by the top executives, and Jason also agreed. After all, if he could use his abilities openly in A Song of Ice and Fire, Jason certainly didn't want to keep operating secretly like a thief; it was far too troublesome.

As the Advisory Group decided to implement the "engagement" plan, the heads of various sectors began mobilizing staff and equipment.

The 14th Division of a certain military construction corps, nearly 10,000 strong, received an order and rushed from their base to Zheng City. Victor, the commander of the 14th Division, took the entire division to board a train for Zheng City without asking many questions, having received a direct order from his superiors. As an engineering and construction corps in the military, they had executed many secret construction tasks and were accustomed to this level of secrecy.

Confidentiality and discipline were second nature to the entire unit. They quietly and orderly boarded a special train in the dark. After over 20 hours, they entered a secure, blocked-off train station under the cover of darkness, then secretly made their way to the base via an underground passage.

Professor Wang met them on the platform. He reached out his hand from a distance. "Welcome, Commander Hong. You've had a difficult journey!"

Commander Hong gave a crisp military salute, then shook hands with the well-known professor. "Professor Wang, it's a pleasure."

Everyone quickly got into the waiting vehicles and sped toward the base headquarters.

In the enormous conference room, Commander Victor and his regimental and battalion-level cadres were all present. They looked up at the podium in shock as the military representatives explained the mission details to them.

"There is actually an Otherworld?"

"Incredible..."

"This... isn't this only found in novels? It actually exists in reality?"

The regimental and battalion commanders present widened their eyes in shock, muttering to themselves.

Commander Victor was equally stunned, but as a soldier, he quickly accepted the reality. His expression turned solemn. He knew instantly that they had been exposed to the nation's biggest secret, and that their 14th Division had been given a tremendous honor and trust.

"Commander Victor , everyone," the military representative addressed them. "Your task is to follow Jason, who has the ability to travel between worlds, the next time the portal opens. You will enter the world of A Song of Ice and Fire and assist the Aerospace Group and the Power Group with infrastructure construction!"

He added, "When you return to your quarters, you must reassure your soldiers and tell them not to worry. We have conducted many tests, and the shuttle process is safe. While you are waiting to cross over, all personnel must familiarize themselves with the novel A Song of Ice and Fire and learn about the situation in that world."
