"That's only part of it; there's a lot more in the wagon behind!" Melisandre explained.
"Thank you, madam, I will make good use of these Dragonglass crystals!" Although he suspected these crystals might not be used at all, Jason politely thanked her. He then asked Kent to bring men to receive the remaining Dragonglass from the carriage.
Afterward, Jason invited Stannis, his queen, and his princess to stay in a relatively clean tower within Castle Black. A welcome banquet for Stannis was scheduled for the evening.
A Diplomatic Dinner
At night, incandescent lamps were lit in the Castle Black hall, illuminating the space as bright as day. Servants continuously served all kinds of hot food, and the hall, filled with long tables, became a little crowded.
During the cheerful banquet, noble knights raised their wine glasses and laughed loudly. In the warm atmosphere, the nobles from the North and the Stormlands, who were initially unfamiliar with each other, gradually lowered their guard, smiling and drinking.
Queen Selyse, dressed in full court attire, held her daughter Princess Shireen's hand and approached the high table. Jason rose and greeted the Queen. "Madam, welcome. I hope tonight's banquet brings you happiness!"
Queen Selyse didn't concern herself with Jason's informal address. She nodded reservedly and greeted him softly. "Thank you for your hospitality, sir. It is a great honor."
Jason wasn't interested in the insignificant Queen Selyse and looked down at Princess Shireen, whose eyes were as timid as a deer. "Hello, Miss Shireen!"
Princess Shireen's beautiful big blue eyes avoided his gaze. Half of her face was covered with a ferocious scar, which was mostly hidden by a high bow tie. She spoke timidly, "Hello, Mr. Jason."
Jason noticed the little girl hiding half her face and realized she must have suffered from greyscale as a child, leaving her with hideous gray scars. This is a poor child.
"May the Old and New Gods bless you, my lovely Miss Shireen," Jason bent down slightly and looked with pity at the shy girl. "Miss Shireen, please don't be afraid. These scars cannot cover up your kind and lovely heart. As far as I know, greyscale is not truly incurable."
Hearing Jason's words, the little girl suddenly looked up, her eyes wide with pathetic anticipation. "Is what you said true, Mr. Jason? Can my illness be cured?"
Queen Selyse was also filled with excitement. "Sir, do you know how to treat this disease? Please, save my poor Shireen! Please help me heal her. She is still so young; she shouldn't suffer this terrible illness."
Looking at the mother and daughter who watched him with excitement and expectation, Jason gave a wry smile. "Madam, Miss, although I truly want to cure Shireen's greyscale immediately, this requires the help of the University of Starfire City. There's no cure at Castle Black."
Seeing the disappointment in their eyes, Jason comforted them. "When this war is over, I promise to send you to the city and let the Grand Maester cure Miss Shireen!"
When Selyse and her daughter heard his promise, they were immediately filled with joy and thanked him repeatedly.
Soon, Stannis heard about this from his wife. Although he didn't show it overtly, he was very happy. Shireen was his only daughter, and as he grew older, he wasn't sure if he would have other children. Therefore, Stannis loved his daughter dearly, and the prospect of treating her greyscale was a great boon.
As a result, during the dinner, Stannis uncharacteristically offered a toast to Jason.
The banquet soon ended. Because the war was imminent, Jason did not drink much, and the other nobles also refrained from heavy drinking, so everyone returned to their rooms early to rest.
The Modern World's Analysis
Jason drank a glass of water and felt a little dizzy. Looking at the wooden box with a few pieces of Dragonglass that Kent had sent, Jason picked one up and examined it closely. He was curious about this obsidian in Westeros, called Dragonglass, which was said to store magical elements and kill the White Walkers.
I wonder what would happen if this thing were taken to modern times?
When the idea popped into his mind, Jason couldn't help but chuckle. "Perfect, I'll take it back to try and give it to the experts and professors to study."
Thinking this, Jason picked up the wooden box and immediately teleported back to the modern timeline.
At the underground base, Marcus, who served as the dedicated team leader, had long grown accustomed to Jason suddenly appearing on the platform. Marcus came over with a smile. "How is it? Has Stannis Baratheon, whom you mentioned last time, arrived yet?"
Since Jason confessed his secret, everyone involved in this "Otherworld project" had extensively studied George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. Everyone was familiar with the characters in Westeros, and advisory group experts had compiled detailed profiles for the characters for the reference of all participants.
Holding the wooden box, Jason stepped down from the platform. "Yes, he's here. We just had a banquet for Stannis tonight. No, wait, this was given to me by that Scarlet Witch, Melisandre—Dragonglass."
Jason opened the wooden box, revealing more than a dozen black crystals inside.
Marcus's eyes were immediately drawn to the Dragonglass in the box. "Is this Dragonglass?"
"I'll take a look, I'll take a look," liam leaned over curiously. "Huh? It looks like a black and red stone. Is it really as miraculous as the novel says, that it can kill White Walkers?"
"This shouldn't be radioactive, right?"
Jason and Marcus looked at eachother. "Don't worry, this thing won't be radioactive. Didn't you notice that the nearby detection equipment didn't respond at all?"
"Hahaha, I'm just joking! I just wanted to scare you all!" Liam laughed, looking carefree.
"Where's Lin Xiaohan?" Jason ignored their antics but looked around. He didn't see his girlfriend, and his face showed a little worry.
Marcus looked at Jason's expression and replied slowly, "Miss Lin Xiaohan has returned to the company. Since we didn't know when you would be back from the other side, she didn't wait here the entire time."
