"She's still sleeping…" Soft hushes woke her from a dreamless nap. The weight of her earlier sorrows was too heavy for her to lift, so she gave up on trying to open her eyes. "How do we deal with Mother?"
The voice, which she had now registered as Matthew's, spoke in a tone she had never heard before. It was almost sorrowful, as if his heart was filled with pity and aches. She could feel his warm palm gently caressing her hair, while his other hand adjusted the blanket over her.
"Feed her to the wolves," Dylan answered coldly.
Wolves? Keira wasn't sure if they were talking about the real thing.
"Father will be home soon." They had already notified William of what had happened. "And Lucas?"
"He'll be here with the Patriarch. This matter needs to be concluded today." They stopped talking when they heard a rustling noise under the blanket. "Did we wake you?"
