"Come now, Jocelynn. I've been inside your heart for a long time," the Olive Seed said. "I know you have no great love for your Cypress Witch. As pleasant as this life may have been, it isn't the only one I can offer you…"
Jocelynn didn't deny it.
She couldn't. It was true, and they both knew it. She respected Ollie. She liked him, more than she'd ever expected to like anyone in Ashlynn's strange new world. He was kind and steady and patient, and he cooked for her when she couldn't eat and sat with her when she couldn't sleep. More than anything, he made her feel… Safe.
If Jocelynn was honest, she thought he might make a wonderful big brother.
But love? Not the kind the vision had shown her. Not the kind that had made her laugh as he kissed her forehead. Not the kind that would see her carrying his child. Maybe one day, years from now, if a spark ever flashed between them, but that day would likely never come.
