Chapter 2 - Rina : The Forbidden Secret ( Part 1 )

Rina was a young hiker who had visited Mount Srinjani with a group of friends several years earlier.

According to the story Keenan had heard, Rina was known as a friendly and fairly courageous woman. She wasn't a professional mountaineer, but she had some experience exploring several mountains with her friends.

No one could have imagined that what was supposed to be an enjoyable holiday would become the beginning of a mystery that would remain unsolved.

On the first day of their hike, Rina happened to be menstruating.

Although some of her friends had suggested that she rest instead, Rina insisted on continuing the journey.

She felt well enough to keep going.

No one considered it a serious problem.

At least, not until nightfall.

After a long day of hiking, the group finally set up their tents in a relatively open area. The air grew colder, mist began to descend, and the sounds of insects echoed from among the trees.

That night, they decided to rest before continuing their journey the following morning.

One by one, the group members entered their tents.

Some fell asleep almost immediately from exhaustion, while others chatted quietly before eventually drifting off.

But Rina couldn't sleep comfortably.

She needed to change her sanitary pad because her menstrual flow was quite heavy. After thinking about it for a while, she woke one of her friends, a girl named Putri.

"Put, wake up for a second."

Putri opened her eyes with difficulty, still half asleep.

"Hmm? What's wrong, Rin?"

"I need to go to the restroom. Can you come with me?"

Putri yawned before nodding.

"Okay. Give me a moment."

The two of them then left the tent.

The night air was painfully cold. The beam of a flashlight was their only source of light as they followed a narrow path toward the restroom.

The restroom wasn't very far from their campsite, but something about the surrounding area felt different.

Trees stood densely along the path. A thin layer of mist covered the ground, while occasional gusts of wind made the branches rub against one another, producing unsettling cracking sounds.

Putri waited outside the restroom.

Rina went inside, carrying her personal belongings.

"Don't go anywhere, okay, Put?" Rina reminded her before closing the door.

"Yeah, yeah. Hurry up. I'm sleepy."

Those were the last words Putri heard from Rina.

Five minutes passed.

Then ten.

Then fifteen.

Putri began to grow bored. She checked the time on her phone several times, hoping Rina would come out soon so they could return to their tent.

But after half an hour had passed, the restroom door remained closed.

"Rina?"

There was no answer.

Putri frowned.

"Rin, are you still in there?"

Silence.

She approached the door and knocked several times.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Rina, come on, let's go! It's freezing out here!"

No answer.

Now Putri was beginning to worry.

She tried turning the doorknob, but the door wouldn't open.

"Rina?"

Her voice grew louder.

"Rina, stop messing around!"

Still, there was no response.

Panic began to creep in. Putri called Rina's name repeatedly, but the only thing that answered her was the silence of the forest.

Finally, she decided to force the door open.

With all her strength, she slammed her body against it until it swung open.

But the moment the door opened, her entire body froze.

The restroom was empty.

Rina was nowhere to be seen.

There was no sound.

There was no one inside.

Putri searched every corner of the room with trembling hands. She even looked behind the door and checked the area behind the toilet, hoping Rina might somehow be hiding there.

But the result was the same.

Empty.

There was only one entrance to the room.

And for the entire half hour she had been waiting, Putri had never seen anyone leave.

"What…?"

Putri's breathing became ragged.

"Rina…?"

She stumbled backward.

The flashlight shook violently in her hand, its beam sweeping wildly across the floor.

"Rina!"

This time, her voice cracked.

There was no answer.

There was no sign that Rina had ever been there.

It was as if the girl had never entered the restroom in the first place.

Putri could no longer think clearly.

Her legs suddenly gave way. Her vision blurred, and she collapsed in front of the restroom door.

She fainted from sheer terror.

When Putri finally regained consciousness, she was already inside the tent.

Several members of the group were sitting around her, their faces filled with concern.

"Putri, you're awake?"

Putri blinked several times.

Her head felt heavy, and she still couldn't fully understand what had happened.

Then the memory of the restroom came rushing back.

She immediately sat upright.

"Rina!"

Everyone was startled by her reaction.

"Putri, calm down!" one of her friends urged. "Where's Rina? Why were you alone out there?"

The question made Putri freeze.

Her lips trembled.

Her eyes began to fill with tears.

"She's gone…"

"What?"

"Rina is gone!"

Putri burst into hysterical tears.

"She went into the restroom, but when I opened the door… she wasn't there anymore!"

Her friends exchanged confused glances.

At first, they thought Putri might have panicked from exhaustion or perhaps mistaken something in the darkness.

But when they checked the restroom together, they couldn't find Rina anywhere.

A search was immediately organized.

They searched the area around the restroom, checked the hiking trails, and repeatedly called Rina's name.

But the girl was never found.

The following morning, the search expanded with the assistance of local residents and a joint rescue team. They combed through the forest and surrounding trails, but no evidence of Rina's whereabouts was discovered.

None of her personal belongings were left behind.

There were no signs of a struggle.

No witnesses had seen her leave.

Rina had seemingly vanished from the human world.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks turned into months.

Yet the search yielded nothing.

Eventually, Rina's family had to face the painful reality that her whereabouts remained unknown.

To this day, Rina's fate remains a mystery.
