Chapter 464: Ambush
Yaya, sensing the rapidly approaching threat, had no hesitation and flapped her wings, turning to flee.
After all, with her tough hide and high health points, such attacks had no real impact on her.
Her massive body shot straight into the sky, disappearing from the terrified gazes of the orcs.
All the orcs scattered in panic. If they were in a normal state, even when faced with Yaya's sudden appearance, they wouldn't have been so chaotic.
But now, constantly under fire and surrounded by flames, the fact that they hadn't fallen to their knees to beg for mercy was already impressive.
The furious orc shaman stumbled out from the flames, roaring madly:
"Charge out!!"
However, as soon as Yaya appeared, the Bay Territory soldiers, having completed their mission, had already begun their retreat along the pre-planned routes.
Realizing this, the orcs felt utterly humiliated and began a frenzied pursuit.
They had the confidence to give chase because the orc reinforcements had arrived!
"Some of our people haven't reached the designated retreat point yet."
Hearing this news, Jifan frowned slightly but wasn't particularly bothered by it.
After all, he had prepared for such a situation.
"Regroup with the Modified Warriors. First, take out the pursuers from the warehouses. Always go for the weakest first!"
The exhilaration of completing their mission made the cavalry laugh heartily.
Confident, they agreed without hesitation and turned to act.
Along the way, Jifan had already sent out messages to various locations.
The adventurers, scattered and hiding, showed their rich experience by clearly still looking to gain more spoils.
A large group of orcs pursued out of the valley, roaring furiously as they tried to close the distance between themselves and the Bay Territory soldiers who had destroyed their trebuchets.
Already boiling with anger, their bodies still singed by flames.
These orcs couldn't hold back!
Then, just as they were about to catch up with the Bay Territory soldiers, they collided with Jifan, who had charged out from the darkness.
Completely caught off guard, the orcs were momentarily stunned.
Without any formation or preparation, the thousands of pursuing orcs were immediately cut in half.
In less than two minutes, they were routed by the cavalry looping back for a wild charge!
The dazed orcs, recalling the fear of death, broke ranks and scattered.
The cavalry seized the moment to chase them down. At this point, they only needed to gallop past, gripping their blades tightly.
The act of slashing didn't even take much effort.
The terrifying impact alone was enough to deal with the orcs.
Jifan ordered the others to retreat first, while he, after scattering the pursuing orcs, turned towards the direction of the advancing orc reinforcements.
How to lure the enemy into a chase?
Simpleāhit them hard!
The unprepared orc reinforcements were caught off guard by Jifan's ambush.
The vanguard of the orcs fell into disarray, unable to even slow down Jifan's escape.
When the main orc force arrived and learned the situation from the vanguard,
The orc commander dispatched a force of around 3,000 wolf riders to pursue Jifan.
After all, cavalry can usually only be countered by cavalry.
While wolf riders lacked burst speed, they had excellent endurance, allowing them to relentlessly chase their prey and finish them off once they were exhausted.
But today, these pursuing wolf riders encountered an entirely different kind of opponent.
Realizing the wolf riders were on their tail, Jifan not only refrained from accelerating to create distance but deliberately lingered in place.
After their replenishment was complete, the wolf riders, feeling underestimated, howled as they charged.
Clearly, this move was quite the provocation.
Jifan and his laughing cavalry broke through two layers of the orc's encirclement.
Unlike the other Bay Territory soldiers, who had left using pre-arranged teleportation arrays, Jifan's team kept taunting the orcs.
In just half an hour, the wolf riders chasing them increased from 3,000 to 7,000.
This level of provocation was truly masterful!
Catching glimpses of the wolf riders closing in from both sides, hearing the relentless howls of their mounts, Jifan understood their hunting strategy.
The wolf riders rotated their pursuit, with some pressing hard while others conserved energy, ready to replace their fatigued comrades, keeping constant pressure on the cavalry.
Once their mounts grew nervous and exhausted, they would fall victim to the wolf riders' relentless tactics.
But Jifan wasn't worried at all.
His boldness stemmed from two reasons:
First, to draw the orc pursuers' attention and buy time for other teams to retreat.
Second, to lure as many of the dangerous wolf riders as possible.
Despite the variety of beasts and predators the orcs could deploy,
None could compare to the professionalism of the wolf rider scouts.
Eliminating or heavily damaging these wolf riders would cripple the orc army's intelligence capabilities.
At that point, the next steps of Bay Territory's plan would proceed more smoothly.
Jifan's confidence came from the support provided by Bay Territory.
Each cavalryman was supplied with over ten nutrition potions, ensuring not just their endurance but also that of their mounts.
As a result, while the wolf riders added some pressure, they posed no real threat.
On the contrary, Jifan's cavalry led the wolf riders further and further away from the main orc force.
When they reached a narrow valley, pretending to be exhausted and on the verge of chaos,
The wolf riders, convinced there couldn't be many enemies hiding in such a small valley, charged in with howls.
As dawn approached, they planned to offer sacrifices to their deities.
What the wolf riders didn't expect was the grinning faces of the human cavalry, who seemed not afraid but rather amused.
Something was definitely off!
But to the orcs, even if there were traps, it was worth it if they could wipe out the cavalry.
Unfortunately for them, their every move had been anticipated by Bay Territory.
As they entered the valley, a beam of dawn sunlight broke through the clouds, shining on their faces.
Before they could marvel at the sight, the blinding sunlight dazzled their eyes.
A massive shadow swooped down towards them.
The unprepared wolf riders were instantly decimated.
Ordinary wolves could never withstand Yaya's draconic aura!
The leading wolf rider commander turned pale, staring at the approaching inferno.
So, we were the prey all along!
