Chapter 806, Agreement Nullified, Back to Normal Experiments
The cabin fell silent again.
A Seer could locate the Second Prince—but where to find a Seer now?
After a while, the cloaked leader said, "Get in touch with our informants in the city. Once we confirm his location, we'll plan our next move."
No one responded.
It was a long while before someone finally said, "If the intel's this crap again, I'm out."
"Don't worry. That won't happen next time," the leader replied.
The group nodded, saying nothing more.
In the corner, Viola slightly lifted her eyes, scanning the room, then pulled her cloak tight and rested with closed eyes.
Mentioning the Seer brought Gold-Silver Island to her mind.
That damned class was even more troublesome than expected.
Ever since the Gold-Silver Island mission failed, she had constantly felt like someone was watching her.
No doubt it was that Island Master keeping tabs.
Hmph!
Persistent brat.
Once this is over, I'll go kill you myself.
"Hope you've made some progress."
...…
Redwind Gang courtyard.
Hearing the corpse's answer, Wu Heng frowned.
The rogue had given a real name, but not a real identity.
The man was no merchant, but an 18th-level Professional responsible for intel.
Which meant if Wu Heng had entered the city asking around for that name, he'd have been flagged instantly.
That bastard really set him up.
Definitely not honest.
Wu Heng looked back at the corpse. "How do you know about this man?"
"Redwind Gang collects intel in this area. Some of it gets sent to him," the corpse replied.
So the guy was basically a superior to the Redwind Gang.
He had to know where the Second Prince was.
One question left. Wu Heng asked, "How could you meet him, using your identity?"
"No way. I've only heard of him."
Five questions done. The corpse collapsed with a thud.
Wu Heng bent over and searched the body.
Besides a coin pouch, he found a stamped pass.
It granted access to the patrol force.
Looks like Redwind Gang had some real standing.
He put the loot into his storage ring, pressed a mask to the corpse's face, and began copying his appearance.
"That rogue didn't say a single true word," Glenda said from the side.
"Right? You could tell he was bad news," Xiaoxiao huffed.
The rogue only gave them one name—and it turned out to be a trap.
Any other class coming here without ghosts or corpse-talking skills would've been screwed.
Wu Heng said, "Still, it wasn't for nothing. We've confirmed this 'Blaise' is a city-based Professional with high status. If we find him, we'll find the Second Prince."
"The city's on alert. If we fight a high-level Professional, we might get swarmed," Glenda warned.
"We won't rush. Let's assess the situation first," Wu Heng replied, storing the mask.
"Right. As long as we confirm the target, taking down the Second Prince won't be hard," Glenda added.
Wu Heng nodded and was about to speak—
When Benny flew in from outside. "Wu Heng, some gang members came back. Three of them. They're carrying a sack—I think they kidnapped someone."
Gang members?
Wu Heng glanced at the scene and quickly calculated. "Glenda, possess a corpse. I'll pose as the gang leader."
Glenda raised a brow, understanding instantly.
She looked at the body on the ground with slight disgust.
But she flew into it anyway.
Crack, crack\~!
The twisted neck realigned, and the body moved like a puppet, walking over.
After a few steps, the motion became smooth.
Wu Heng donned the mask and transformed into the gang leader. He also stored the two bodies into his ring.
Voices came from beyond the courtyard gate.
Wu Heng looked at Glenda-in-body. "I'll go in first."
...…
Creak\~!
The courtyard door opened. Three ragged figures hurried in.
Two of them were lugging a squirming sack. Muffled cries came from inside—clearly someone had been kidnapped.
"Where's the boss?"
"Counting money inside. Who's that?" Glenda asked coldly.
Hearing that, the thugs shouted toward the room, "Boss! We got the girl! She's full of fire too!"
Wu Heng came out and eyed the sack. "Open it. Let me see."
"On it!" the lead thug eagerly opened the sack, revealing a dirt-smeared girl.
"Boss, she's all yours. After you're done, can the boys have a go? She's feisty," one of them grinned, rubbing his hands.
The girl's eyes were full of fear.
Her mouth was gagged, but she looked like she was cursing them out.
Wu Heng glanced at her. "Any trouble catching her?"
"No worries, boss. We'll just bury her later. No one'll know," a thug chuckled.
Wu Heng asked, "Why just you three? Where's the rest?"
"Still at the market," one said, confused.
"Follow me in. You did good. I've got a reward for you," Wu Heng said, heading into the study.
Their eyes lit up.
They followed him inside and saw bags of silver on the desk.
Wu Heng waved a hand. The door slammed shut. "Kill them."
Crack! Crack!
Two necks snapped instantly.
The last man stared at his fallen buddies. A second later, his neck twisted too.
"Benny, keep an eye on the courtyard. If any more come back, alert me. Xiaoxiao, switch Glenda out and watch the girl in the sack," Wu Heng ordered.
"Got it!"
"Okay, Uncle."
The two phantoms flew off.
Glenda, still in the corpse, walked back in.
"Straight-up murder, huh!"
"Corpse-talking's just easier," Wu Heng replied.
Glenda nodded in agreement and sat down.
At the same time, Wu Heng laid out the other bodies.
Six in total.
He cast [Speak with Dead] on the first.
"How many in Redwind Gang total?"
"Twenty-seven."
That's fewer than expected. Less than most gangs.
Wu Heng asked, "What's your role in the city?"
"We manage this market area and gather local intel."
"What's the leader's daily routine?"
The corpse paused. "He gives out tasks. If there's anything at night, he calls a meeting. If not, we go about our business."
"The money in the room—what's it for?"
"Every seven days, the money gets delivered to the patrol force."
Fifth question.
"How's the split?"
"Chancellor gets 40%, Commander 30%, patrol 20%, gang 10%."
Damn. The gang only keeps 10% of its own profits.
No wonder Redwind Gang's tolerated in the city.
Wu Heng cast [Speak with Dead] on the second body.
"How long till the next payment to the patrol?"
"Tomorrow."
"Any place in the city—besides the prince's manor—that stands out?"
The corpse hesitated. "Not sure."
"..."
...…
Time passed.
Wu Heng questioned every corpse with [Speak with Dead].
He now had a general grasp of the Redwind Gang and the city.
The gang mainly ran the local marketplace—something like a contracted market in the modern world.
They had to deliver money up the chain and split the profits with higher-ups.
That gave them a bit of leverage, even in a fully locked-down city.
The Redwind Gang handed the money to the local guard force—the person they could contact was the captain of the guards.
Any further up, they didn't have access.
At most, the gang was muscle-for-hire.
Still, the phantoms could follow the money trail and pinpoint the officials' locations.
"You're going to keep digging through the Redwind Gang?" Glenda asked.
"Yeah. Gangs gather messy intel, but for us it's safe. Even if someone finds out, they're no real threat," Wu Heng said.
The gang members were low-level.
This gave him room to be more reckless. Killing them didn't weigh on his conscience.
"Give it a try. There's no better plan for now," Glenda replied.
Wu Heng nodded and packed away the corpses.
Then he started searching through the study and bedroom.
He found records, agreements, and drawers full of various sedatives—but no valuable intel.
After flipping through everything,
Wu Heng said, "Bring that girl in."
Glenda got up, went out, and returned carrying the sack with the girl inside.
...…
The empty room made the girl frown.
All the ones who kidnapped her came in—but none of them were here now!
She was thrown in the middle. Glenda sat to the side.
Wu Heng looked at her. "When I let you speak, don't scream or yell. Or I'll cut your tongue out."
Terrified, she widened her eyes but still nodded.
Wu Heng waved, and the rag in her mouth flew off and landed on a chair.
The girl looked shocked.
Wu Heng asked, "Why were they targeting you?"
They?
She hesitated, voice trembling. "You—you're not Sid?"
Sid was the gang leader.
"No. I killed him. This is just a disguise," Wu Heng replied calmly.
"Liar! You're just trying to mess with me!"
Wu Heng waved his hand. A few silver coins on the table spun and floated in the air. "Could Sid do that?"
"You... you're the bad guy from Rentam City! The one who tried to assassinate the prince!"
Smart girl.
"Wrong guess," Wu Heng canceled the magic. The coins clinked back down. "Doesn't matter who I am. Who are you, and why were they after you?"
She said, "I came to town to sell goods. They wanted me to sleep with Sid. This time, they just kidnapped me."
"Alone?"
"Yeah."
"They snatch people up randomly—doesn't the guard care?"
"I don't know."
Wu Heng talked with her for a while and got a basic understanding.
She had no family. Came to town alone to sell stuff. The Redwind Gang had been watching her.
This time, with all the chaos, they took the chance and grabbed her.
But for Wu Heng...
She was now a headache.
She shrank back. "Are you going to let me go?"
Wu Heng answered bluntly, "If you leave, you'll cause me trouble."
Her eyes widened with fear. "You said you wouldn't kill me! You can't go back on that!"
Glenda chuckled on the side.
Wu Heng said, "Behave, and I won't kill you."
"You are Sid!" the girl hugged herself.
"I'll send you somewhere. Stay put for a few days, and I won't kill you."
"Where?" she asked in fear.
"You don't need to know. Do you want to live or not?"
She hesitated. "Yes!"
Wu Heng opened [Mansion Spell] and showed her the interior. "Take her in. Just keep her away from the railguns and don't interfere."
With a hopeless look, the girl was dragged inside by a skeleton.
[Mansion Spell] closed.
She looked back with an expression that screamed—You are from Rentam. A traitor who controls skeletons.
...…
Time passed again.
Wu Heng continued combing through the room.
By dusk, a few gang members returned. Wu Heng sat in the lounge and dismissed them after hearing their reports.
He'd deal with the rest later.
Once night fell and the building was empty,
Wu Heng called back the phantoms, opened a portal, and stepped through.
On the other side was the prison's monitoring room.
"Show me the rogue's room," Wu Heng said to a skeleton.
The monitor showed the rogue's room and zoomed in.
The rogue was resting on his bed, seemingly quite comfy.
"Living his best life," Glenda joked.
"Exactly," Xiaoxiao added.
Wu Heng chuckled. "Let's go say hi."
He left the control room and headed to the cells with a skeleton.
The iron door creaked open. The rogue jolted upright.
He looked toward the door, eyes cold—then wavered when he saw Wu Heng.
"Getting comfy already? Sleeping well here?" Wu Heng smiled.
"You promised comfort, so I might as well rest," the rogue replied calmly.
"True. Better enjoy it now—you might not get another chance," Wu Heng said at the door.
The rogue's eyes narrowed. "Back for a chat, Wu Heng? Not afraid the Second Prince will send someone else after your girl?"
He assumed this prison was near Rentam City.
After all, Rentam's north side bordered orc lands—plenty of empty space for labs.
Wu Heng being here again meant he hadn't left Rentam.
Hadn't gone after the Second Prince either.
Wu Heng looked at him. "Took drama lessons on the side?"
"What?"
Wu Heng explained, "I found out your so-called merchant is actually an 18th-level intel agent. So, yeah... that comfy life I promised? No longer valid."
The rogue's eyes shrank. "You bastard! I didn't lie!"
Wu Heng didn't bother arguing. He turned and walked off. "Sleep well. Tomorrow, no more luxury."
"You haven't even gone there! You don't know!"
"Your intel was bad."
"Damn you, Wu Heng, come back and explain!"
Behind him, the rogue's frantic shouts rang out. The iron door slammed shut.
His screams echoed inside.
Wu Heng walked out of the facility.
A skeletal alchemist approached and bowed slightly.
Wu Heng glanced toward the cells and said, "No need to wait. Start standard testing on that rogue tomorrow. Bring extra skeletons—he's high-level."
