Chapter 781, Conspirator
Approaching the convoy, Li Yanhong also walked over and said, "Where are the poultry you mentioned?"
"Over here. Have someone clear out the carriage," Wu Heng said.
Li Yanhong turned and waved her hand. The accompanying survivors began organizing the truck's rear carriage.
The transported materials were moved into the warehouse, and items not immediately needed were relocated to another truck.
Wu Heng led Li Yanhong toward another open space in the back.
As they got close, they saw the open space filled with iron cages, with various animals inside.
The ones left behind were all poultry suitable for raising.
Seeing so many animals, Li Yanhong's eyes lit up instantly. She asked, "Are all these prepared for us?"
Inside the base, all the food was flour provided by Wu Heng. The plant-growing potion had already begun to be used in the fields.
Meat was the only thing lacking. Many people hadn't eaten meat in a long time.
During festivals, they'd get some scavenged canned food—many of which had already expired.
Wu Heng smiled and said, "They're all yours. Have you arranged a place to raise them?"
"Already arranged. We'll start by assigning experienced survivors to raise them with the skeletons. Once the skeletons learn enough, they'll take over entirely," Li Yanhong said, looking at the cages.
"Good," Wu Heng nodded, then ordered a nearby skeleton, "Move all these iron cages to the garage."
Clatter~!
The stationed skeleton army began to move.
Two skeletons lifted each iron cage and began walking out.
The animals weren't that heavy, and after the bumpy journey and starvation, most were half-dead. But the cages themselves were quite heavy.
The two stood to the side. Wu Heng said, "I've noticed many survivors in the base have become slack."
Li Yanhong frowned, "What happened?"
Wu Heng recounted what he saw at the military factory.
Li Yanhong sneered, "They've turned that place into a retirement home."
"Any suggestions?"
After all, those with technical skills were few. Their knowledge couldn't be easily replaced, and it wasn't like they could just drag them out and kill them.
The base was stable, but it wasn't a time for people to lie flat and retire.
Li Yanhong continued, "We'll assign people to inspect regularly. That should help a bit. I'll think about it and get back to you."
Wu Heng said, "Discuss it with Qi Hancai."
"Alright."
The two stood at the entrance chatting for a while.
All the cages had been moved onto the truck.
Wu Heng took Li Yanhong on a walk around the prison, briefly explaining the upcoming plans.
Li Yanhong listened intently, but she didn't feel optimistic about the corpse core cultivation plan.
Unlike other main rescue teams, their side lacked researchers. They were just force-feeding corpse cores like brutes.
It didn't seem very reliable.
But then again, none of the things Wu Heng had done seemed reliable at first.
After the tour—
The convoy stayed until the afternoon, then left the prison.
After seeing Li Yanhong off, Wu Heng returned to the prison office. Through the installed monitor, he could observe the situation in each cell block.
The Skeleton Alchemist had already started injecting the animals with the virus.
Soon, the animals on the screen began showing signs of zombification.
Their bodies also began to change gradually.
Meanwhile, the Skeleton Investigator and Skeleton Alchemist began recording.
They documented all the changes.
Wu Heng monitored until near dusk. When the three wraiths returned—
He handed everything over to the skeletons and returned to Gold-Silver Island via the realm gate.
...…
Island Lord's Manor.
After washing up, Wu Heng came downstairs.
As soon as he reached the first floor, Minnie said, "Master, Steward Sheila Grey called several times today, but you weren't here."
At the mention of Sheila Grey, Wu Heng instantly felt nervous.
No need to guess—he already knew what the calls were about.
"Got it. I'll call her back shortly," Wu Heng said with a smile.
"Okay, Master." Minnie also smiled slightly and bounced off to the courtyard with Robe.
Seeing no one in the living room, Wu Heng picked up the phone and dialed the steward's residence.
After two rings, Sheila Grey's voice came through, "Hello!"
"Sheila Grey, it's me..."
As soon as he spoke, a harsh whisper came from the other end, "What's wrong with you? Not even one call all day."
"You're a mage. You know you can't hold your liquor—why'd you drink so much?"
"I could just come over and chop you up."
Wu Heng held the phone and waited for her to vent before saying, "It's my fault."
Sheila Grey's tone faltered, and she sighed softly, "Don't come over for now. Stay away from Shiyali."
Wu Heng frowned, "What happened to her? You're making me more worried."
Sheila Grey sounded helpless, "It's come to this, there's nothing more to say. You know my sister's personality—she acts carefree, but she thinks a lot."
"Wait for a bit. Once she's less angry, bring some flowers to apologize. Say you were drunk and confused. It's obvious she likes you. Be sincere—it'll be fine."
Wu Heng froze, momentarily stunned.
What the hell?
What happened between those two during the day?
No, how did Shiyali explain things to Sheila Grey?
Damn, a negotiation expert!
Wu Heng said nothing. Sheila Grey urgently reminded him, "When you come over, don't be all playful. Don't be afraid if she gets angry—let her vent. I'll help smooth things over... But this time, you better not screw up, or... I really won't be able to forgive you."
Wu Heng pondered a moment before asking, "Should I go over tomorrow?"
"No, stay away for a few days. Avoid her. If she lashes out, dodge. She's just throwing a tantrum. Don't hurt her. She's my sister—we've been together since childhood," Sheila Grey insisted.
"Shiyali wants to kill me?!" Wu Heng's eyes widened.
"She's just angry. Don't hurt her, got it?"
"Got it. If she attacks, I'll run," Wu Heng said. "So when should I come over?"
"I'll call you. Also, don't eat her cooking—she might poison you," Sheila Grey warned again.
"Okay. Where is Shiyali now?" Wu Heng asked quietly.
Sheila Grey replied, "Cooking. She really likes you. She just thinks humans and elves aren't suited. I'll talk to her. She always listens to me—it'll be fine. She'll accept you."
"I'll treat both of you well."
"Hmph!" Sheila Grey snorted, then said, "Alright, I'm hanging up before she hears and causes another fight."
"If she tries to hit you, just come to me."
"No way. Not talking anymore," Sheila Grey said quickly and hung up.
Wu Heng put the phone back and stood in place, mulling over what she had just said.
Apparently, things weren't going the way he imagined.
Sheila Grey thought all three had gotten drunk, Wu Heng didn't leave, and Shiyali climbed into the wrong bed.
The three of them ended up sleeping together.
Now Shiyali was raging at home, wanting to kill him. Sheila Grey felt responsible and was trying to mediate.
Her words even hinted at accepting a relationship involving all three.
Damn!
Shiyali's a damn conspirator.
