Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Sleepover

Sleepover

"You sound so down. Did something happen?" Alec called the next morning while Kael was busy coloring stuff with Amir in the recreation room. They are going out today to pick some clothes for tomorrow's event and just waiting for a few preparations to finish so they could head out.

Kael paused what he was doing and signaled Ms. Sato, telling her that he was having a phone call outside. "What gives?"

Alec turned on his camera to put his phone somewhere. The Omega watches him as Alec prepares his meal. Kael shook his head rapidly when the incident last night flashed in his head like a broken record. Everytime it does, Kael could feel a strange churn in his stomach at the same time his heart becomes heavy.

"I could always tell," Alec just simply answered. "I haven't met your brother yet."

"Hmm? Oh… he's just here somewhere. They're busy preparing for the birthday celebration tomorrow. His husband's family wants to throw a birthday celebration." Which is not entirely a lie but isn't entirely true either.

Alec finally picked up the phone. "Good for you." Kael just watches him as his friend walks towards the dining table. "How about Tairon? Did you get a hold of him?"

"Yes, I did." Kael peeked inside the room where Amir was happily scribbling with his crayons on the blank sheets.

"And nothing's going on?" His voice was suspecting so Kael let out a chuckle, trying not to stutter.

"Is it wrong to visit him? It's been a while since I've seen him, I missed that basta—" Kael paused from his words when he got eye to eye with Zenon who had just popped out of nowhere. He is glaring again. Unlike last night. Kael could tell his gazes were softer last night. Or was it just because the Alpha was just guilty.

Although Kael wanted to ignore it, part of him desired to see it again. To feel it again, to be under the Alpha's gentle eyes. But that can't be right. He shouldn't be thinking of such things.

"What is it?" Alec's voice snapped him back to reality.

"Nothing. My mind just drifted off. You're saying?" Kael replied as he took a few steps.

Kael could hear Alec's deep chuckle. "You airhead. I have to end the call, the old man is calling. He's a bit on edge these days since someone suddenly decided to leave for the other side of the world."

"Tell him not to kill me when he sees me again." After they said their goodbyes, Kael finally put his phone away and was ready to go back to the recreation room. His heart almost jumped out of its cage upon seeing the Alpha didn't leave yet.

Kael raised his eyebrows and asked 'what?' without a sound. But Zenon just gave him a look, then the Alpha glanced at his phone before he finally walked away. Clueless, Kael clicked his tongue and returned inside to join Amir.

That day, although Kael was initially uncomfortable with the number of guards that accompanied them in the mall, Amir kept him entertained. He was busy choosing clothes that looked cute on him, shoes, and other stuff. It's on the family anyway, might as well enjoy it.

The guards led by Eric stand alert throughout their shopping spree. Even when Kael excused himself to the restroom, two guards insisted on going inside with him, under orders from the Alpha. Thinking back about the incidents that always happen whenever he'd use the restroom, Kael just gets on with it, however uncomfortable.

After the tiring shopping, they settled on a cafe still inside the mall. Some guards left with the things they shopped and some things Zenon's father instructed while the rest stayed. Ms. Sato is with them of course and she was feeding Amir some chocolate cake, at the same time Kael was in the middle of offering some to the guards.

"Well, well, well. If it's not Kaisen the great." A high-pitched voice suddenly spoke up.

Hearing Kaisen's name, Kael looked where the voice was coming from. A female dressed in a russet long sleeve bandage dress saunters towards Kael's location. Her four-inch slink back heels click every time it hits the cafe's tile. Following behind her were two other girls, presumably her friends.

Another person who knows his twin. But rather a bad company.

Kael ignored her and took a bite of his lemon creme cake. Seeing how the Omega had ignored the woman, her friend let out a mocking laugh. The woman in the bandage dress glared at her friend behind her to warn her.

The woman once again put on a forced smile. "It's been what? Almost 4 years since you came in public. The people had already forgotten about you." However, no response from the Omega who was busy giving a 3 year-old kid a bite of a cheese cake.

"It seems like the cake is more worthy than you, girl." The same girl behind mocked in whispers which annoyed her. How dare he keep on ignoring her like this? A lowly Omega like him. And so she resorted to another offense, this time in a more modulated voice.

"Oh my, is this your son?" Her words drew the attention of everyone as she was the only one who was speaking with that loud voice. Even the boy looked at her curiously. Eric wanted to step in but Kael had stopped him. "Lemme guess, he is from some random guy you were whoring with during—what do you call it again?... Ah heat."

Kael really decided to ignore bitches like her because people like her, they just lack proper care. Maybe they just got exposed to too much air while their mother was still pregnant with them. But being petty in front of a child is a whole different situation.

He resumed feeding Amir while Ms. Sato talked to the boy in a foreign language, just to set his attention away from the woman. "Where did you even get the nerve to spout nonsense?" Kael uttered, still in a calm manner.

The women were taken aback when the Omega retaliated. Kaisen never talked back before. No matter what she did to him, he just stayed silent. The bandage dress girl scoffed loudly. "So you're fighting back now? You?" Her hands poked Kael's shoulder hard.

A loud thwack echoed as Kael slapped her hand without warning, earning a squeal. What she did now gave Kael a glimpse of how their relationship with his twin might be. He felt his blood boil, a sense of displeasure was formed inside him.

Kael watched as the woman soothed her now reddened arm. The silent girl at the back immediately cared for her like a servant while the other girl widened her eyes on Kael, "You dare lay your hands on her?"

"Why not?" Kael stood up from his seat. The unfamiliar chilling voice sent shivers to their bones. "If you still wish to have your limbs, you better keep it to yourself… at all times." Kael whispered those last words with hard emphasis that made their jaws gapped open.

They can't believe Kaisen had openly threatened them. Kaisen, that pushover Omega. And that expression on his face as if telling them that he wasn't even a bit joking about it. As if he had done it before. The three were shocked on that spot that they didn't notice the Omega left with the guards.

Kael was feeling disgruntled ever since they left the mall. Amir must've sensed it as he became more clingy than he ever was during the ride home. The little guy must've been cheering him up and so Kael tried to wipe the thought that's been bothering him.

However, the night fell and Kael just kept on tossing and turning. Amir unusually didn't come to his room for bedtime stories but he left the door ajar just in case the kid would want to come to his bedroom.

After tossing a few more times, laid on his stomach Kael reached the bedside drawer and fetched his twin's phone. Loads of message notifications popped as soon as he turned on the phone yet nothing was from Kaisen. He scrolled through the messages and it's either an insult or a threat. Recalling Tairon's word of how timid Kaisen is, Kael questioned how his twin reacted to these. These are awful.

Kael hid the phone under the pillow the second he heard the door creaking. He put on a wide smile as he sat up on the bed expecting to see the little man. But what he didn't expect was the Alpha carrying Amir, whose eyes are wet however smiling, in his arms.

"Are we having a sleepover?" Kael said playfully which the kid responded with rapid nods.

On the other hand, Zenon was not a bit pleased with the idea of sleeping in the same room, in the same bed with anyone, let alone someone he considered a stranger. If it's Amir then it's no problem but the kid just knocks on his door while he was in the shower and suddenly starts bawling.

Since the kid refused to say anything, Ms. Sato told him the situation which led them to now.

Now, with them three huddled on the bed—with the child lying between them—Amir asked Zenon to read a story this time while Kael cuddles with him. Soon enough, soft snores can be heard.

Kael silently chuckled as he tucked Amir properly. "I don't know why he asked for you to come. Sorry about that."

He heard the book close and so he lifted his gaze. He watched the Alpha carefully place the storybook on the bedside table. "Why are you the one apologizing? He's my nephew."

Realizing this fact, the Omega could only laugh under his breath. "Oh, right."

Silence came after. Neither of them dared to break the stillness in the room. Kael could only hear their breaths but he could also hear how his heart thumps loudly as the seconds passed. Why is he not saying anything? Or leaving. Is he really going to sleep there with them?

"Sleep." Kael glanced at the Alpha once again when he spoke in his calm voice.

"Is this seriously a sleepover?" He doesn't mind though. He is used to sleepovers with Alec in many of their friend's houses. Kael tucked himself under the covers to make himself comfortable.

Zenon gave him a side-eye but said nothing nonetheless, he was occupied observing Kael's pheromones. Although the Omega was acting like he normally does, he could tell something was bothering the Omega by the scent of his pheromones Kael didn't even notice he was emitting.

It was rather faint and hard to notice but Zenon sensed it the moment he entered the room. Amir must've sensed it too. Tsk! He made a child worry.

Their eyes met when Kael looked at him the third time. The familiar pheromones from last night wafted through the air, unexpectedly soothing Kael's. Zenon felt something warm grow inside of him when the Omega's lips curved with a soft smile, crinkling the corners of his eyes.

Ah, damn it! He thought as he watched the Omega drift into slumber.
